After the rage and tears fans endured in the exhausting, exhilarating "Avengers: Infinity War," comic book movie fans need a good laugh. "Deadpool 2" provides just that.A blisteringly funny follow-up to the surprise 2016 smash, the sequel is a pure, unbridled expression of the comedic stylings of Ryan Reynolds, who had a hand in producing and writing. The story is well-told enough to generate some semblance of an emotional core, but even that is mocked ferociously. Deadpool does show a bit of character development in this outing, showing a softer side when it comes to romantic love and fatherly guidance of young mutants. But at his core, Deadpool is still the death-dealing court jester that comic book fans have adored for decades.From the outset, the indestructible, motormouthed mercenary declares that despite the bombardment of dirty jokes, this is indeed a "family film," which itself is a joke that lays the groundwork for laughs to come later on. That's the genetic makeup of "Deadpool 2," which boasts mutant powers for eliciting abs-shredding laughter. If you can't handle dirty jokes, stay far, far away. But for everyone else, take a cannonball jump into this Deadpool. A wave of construction will bring thousands of new apartments to downtown in the next few years. As those complexes start to open, they could bring relief to San Diego's housing crisis.This July, Park 12 will be the biggest to open, adding 718 units to the downtown area. The complex features three buildings, including a 37 story tower. Jerry Brand, with developer Greystar, says they wanted to go big in downtown because they see the area going through tremendous growth."Last year, San Diego had the largest employment growth in CA as a city. It was about 30,000 jobs, and that doesn't include the military," Brand says. "That creates housing demand, so we're seeing continued demand in the future."Other developers agree. According to Civic San Diego's 2017 Downtown Development Report, there were 1,014 new apartments completed in downtown in 2017. That's the third most since 2001. The report shows another 10,561 apartments either under construction, waiting to be built, or waiting for approval.Little Italy is one of the fastest growing areas. Projects like Luma, AV 8, Amo and Vici will add nearly 600 apartments to the area by the start of 2019."This is the most dynamic neighborhood in San Diego," says Rich Gustafson, the President of CityMark Development. They're putting the finishing touches on AV8, which will have 133 units."The demand is there," he says. "San Diego, in general, is slow in providing the housing supply, but we're doing the best that we can in Little Italy."It's not just apartments. Across Downtown, Civic San Diego says there are 1,213 condominiums either under construction or in the planning stages. (KGTV) - For some students in Alpine, the first week of school has meant distance learning pods inside a school, hosted by their school district.Like for so many kids, the switch to distance learning in March was tough for 8-year-old Ashlyn, according to her mother Stephanie Green."She thrives more when she's with her peers. One-on-one with me and her just didn't really work as well," said Green.So when distance learning was mandated to begin the school year, there was disappointment, and then came a different reaction."I thought thought it was great. It was really innovative," said Green.Photos sent to ABC 10News reveal what the first week of school looked like for nearly 100 students in the Alpine Union School District. Inside one school gym, there was a distance learning pod with Ashlyn and seven other kids, in the 1st, 3rd and 4th grades. Set up by the district, the pods are being held on school grounds. Students are separated by plexiglass dividers. A substitute teacher is on hand to guide them through the process. Parents in the pods take shifts supervising the kids, making sure they get breaks outside.About half of the learning pods are within their before-and-after-school care programs, expanded into a 10-and-a-half hour days."The learning pods are a good way to have a bit normalcy to begin the school year," said Green.Despite initial concerns, the county officials tells ABC 10News the district-hosted learning pods do fall within the latest state guidelines.District superintendent rich Newman says they launched the program to address challenges their families were facing with distance learning, from internet access and social isolation to distractions and parents' work schedules."The number one feedback is 'Thank you. Thank you for thinking of us, for giving kids a safe place to learn.
