SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The tight race between two democrats to become San Diego's next mayor is seeing an increase in attacks, less than four weeks before the election.Democrats Todd Gloria and Barbara Bry have both said they were not involved with messages that have gone out over the last few days. On Wednesday, Barbara Bry called a news conference Wednesday in response to two mailers she said were deceptive — one sent to Democrats made her out to be the Republican choice for mayor, while the other, sent to Republicans, made her out to be very liberal. "I think these mailers are very deceptive, they do not explain who I am as a person, they were done in a deceitful way to purposely deceive voters about who I am," she said. Both mailers appeared to be in support of Bry, with quotes or images from well-known public local officials. But a closer look shows that a committee that supports Todd Gloria paid for the ads. Attorney Gil Cabrera, the principal for Neighbors for Housing Solutions Supporting Todd Gloria, which sent the mailers, says their purpose is to show that Bry is trying to be different things to different voters."The one thing she hasn't said is that any of the quotes are inaccurate or any of the policy positions are inaccurate, which is, I think, interesting," he said. A spokesman for Gloria says the candidate is not legally allowed to coordinate with those mailers and has not done so. Meanwhile, Gloria is taking attacks from conservative radio host Carl DeMaio over his recent support of a bill that doesn't automatically force someone to register a sex offender in certain circumstances after sex with a minor - meant to end discrimination against LGBTQ individuals.Demaio said he did it on his own and said he has not endorsed Bry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thousands of San Diego County jury trials are on-hold because of the pandemic. Local court officials have requested another extension from the Judicial Council of California for jury trials to be postponed through mid-September.On Monday, ABC10 News spoke to San Diego Superior Court Presiding Judge Lorna Alksne about the challenges of returning to jury trials. “We’re at 25-hundred jury trials that need to be tried,” she told us.Trials were halted on March 17th. Non-jury trials are currently in progress through a remote virtual process. “What we can't do right now is bring a jury into the courthouse. When you can't even go to a restaurant to eat, the idea of bringing hundreds of people in to sit in a room together is not recommended,” she told ABC10 News.Courtrooms are being retrofitted with plexiglass barriers to protect everyone from jurors to defendants to court staff. Judge Alksne said other safety measures like social distancing will also be implemented, when appropriate.“Once you do resume the process of summoning jurors, what if they just don't feel comfortable? They fear the risk?” we asked. “Jury service is a duty that we hold in high regard. We can't have criminal justice service work without jurors so I would hope that by the time we actually pull jurors in and ask them to come down that unless they have a health condition that would make it unsafe here, that they would be willing to serve,” she responded.The court is still working through other complex issues like the possible need for more alternate jurors. “In other jurisdictions where they have tried to start jury trials up and down the State of California, one juror getting COVID-19 or having symptoms will send everyone home and you'll have a mistrial,” she added.Judge Alksne also said there are currently about 300 violent felony defendants in custody who are waiting to be tried. 1903

There was a bunch of people with avalanche gear and shovels who acted incredibly quickly and were able to dig me out,” said Evan Huck.Huck and his wife Kahlynn were among five skiers and snow boarders rescued after an avalanche Friday at the Squaw Valley Ski Resort near Lake Tahoe.RELATED: San Diego native and wife caught in Squaw Valley avalancheHuck grew up on Coronado and recently got married to Kahlynn.
