The Trump administration is coming out with new visa restrictions aimed at restricting a practice known as “birth tourism." That refers to cases when women travel to the United States to give birth so their children can have U.S. citizenship. Visa applicants deemed by consular officers to be coming to the U.S. primarily to give birth will now be treated like other foreigners coming to the U.S. for medical treatment. According to 445

Throughout the coming months, Sephora says shoppers will be able to donate their reward points to various non-profit organizations. In June, shoppers will be able to donate their rewards points as a donation to the National Black Justice Coalition, Sephora said in a statement to E.W. Scripps. In July, shoppers will be able to donate to Project Glimmer. The company said that they would be rotating partnerships in this new effort to support organizations that build up black communities."We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of George Floyd and the pain experienced by African Americans and communities of color across America. We believe unequivocally that Black Lives Matter and we are committed to using our platforms and resources to stand against racism and injustice, to amplify Black voices, and celebrate the beauty and diversity of Black lives," the company said in a statement. "With our new points to dollars donation program, which begins with the support of the National Black Justice Coalition for June followed by Project Glimmer in July. We want to support organizations that provide critical aid in our communities and provide a way for our clients to participate in Sephora's larger giving initiatives, directing the power and breadth of our community to support their work. Beyond this effort, we are also proud to have given more than M to support organizations in our communities, like National CARES Mentoring Movement, the Center for Urban Families, the NAACP, the National Black Justice Coalition and the National Black Coalition on Black Civic Participation Black Women's Roundtable, all of which are building up Black communities and leading the fight for racial justice and equity. This is not the beginning of our work, and it will not be the end. In the weeks and months ahead, we will continue listening and learning from our Black employees, colleagues, friends, and the broader Sephora community to inform the action and change we are committed to making." 2006

The Smithsonian Institution is working to document history as it happens. It's asking ordinary people and organizations to set things aside that will help tell the story of COVID-19.“America will not be the same after this event,” said Alexandra Lord, Chair and Curator of the Medicine and Science Division at the National Museum of American History. Lord says a task force is looking for items that will show the full impact of the coronavirus. They've been in touch with the U.S. Public Health Service to hold onto medical supplies, like ventilators, test kits and masks.Objects from corporations and small businesses can help show the massive economic impact.Curators are even looking into how to document working, learning and spending time together through Zoom calls.“We have access to all sorts of technology that enables us to talk to family and friends, and that's really different from past pandemics,” said Lord. “We really want to mark that in some way.”Right now, curators are just flagging the objects they're interested in. They'll start physically collecting once their offices reopen, but there's no cutoff to stop.“In fact, it's more than probable that 40, 50 years from now, curators at the Smithsonian may find objects in someone's attic that were related to COVID-19 and we may feel at the time, this is a really fabulous object we really want to bring it in to the museum,” said Lord. Some objects will be included in a previously planned exhibit called "In Sickness and in Health." That's scheduled to open in 2021.If you'd like to suggest something for curators to consider, send an email with pictures and description to 1658

They are the people whose plight brought comedian and activist Jon Stewart to tears during an impassioned appearance before Congress this week over funds for other ailing first responders to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They bear lasting scars from their long hours of work in the pile of destruction that remained after the World Trade Center collapsed nearly 18 years ago. They breathed in noxious air clouded with debris from the fallen buildings after officials assured them it was safe. They have now discovered -- long after the shattered heart of Lower Manhattan was brought back to life -- debilitating illnesses and cancers festering in their bodies. As of May, more than 12,500 cases of cancer had been diagnosed. The most-diagnosed ailments, however, are upper and lower respiratory and gastrointestinal problems, musculoskeletal disorders and mental health conditions. Here are two of their stories: He lost part of left foot to gangrene after ground zero accidentJohn Feal and his crew of demolition experts arrived at ground zero the morning after the towers collapsed."What everybody saw we can deal with ... but the smell is everlasting," he recalled this week. "If I close my eyes and think about it, I smell it."It still keeps him up at night."It smelled like the devil," he said. "The carnage devastation and destruction. If I had a picture of that smell, it would be a picture of the devil."With machines, tools and their hands, the small army of civilians ferreted through tons of twisted steel, rubble and debris. On the fifth day, with 30 minutes left on his 12-hour shift, an 8,000-pound slab of steel broke loose from the pile and crushed his left foot.Feal, 52, spent 11 weeks in the hospital. Doctors amputated his left foot after gangrene set in. He had nearly 40 surgeries and countless hours of therapy. He also was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder."I went there thinking that I could make a difference and I got hurt," he said. "My difference making came later."He founded the 2025
