SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A local realtor who molested two underage girls apologized to his victims during a court hearing Friday, while those speaking on behalf of the victims said they could take solace in the fact that he will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.Donald Edward Hickey, 62, pleaded guilty last month to five felonies, including lewd and lascivious acts with a child and possession of child pornography for material investigators found on three separate devices.Hickey was initially set to be sentenced to a 25-years-to-life term on Friday, but the hearing was postponed until Sept. 6 so that an interview can be conducted for his probation report, which could affect his future in-custody housing considerations.Prosecutors did not disclose how Hickey knew the victims, but according to Deputy District Attorney Stephen Marquardt, the molestations occurred sometime between 2009 and 2012 in San Diego County. Hickey was arrested last year following a cyber tip sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.The former Clairemont resident, who worked as a real estate agent out of La Jolla, was found to have ``thousands'' of videos and images of child pornography in his possession, some of which depicted Hickey abusing children.``This defendant not only preyed on these children, but he also memorialized what he did so that he could retain a copy of the real-time abuse of those children,'' Marquardt said.Hickey's attorney, Danielle Iredale, said Hickey was molested by a local man in his neighborhood when Hickey was between the ages of 10 and 12.Hickey told those in attendance, ``I'm sorry for everything that's happened. I take responsibility for it and I hope they do heal from it.'' Despite the postponed sentencing, victims were allowed to speak Friday in case they could not attend Hickey's sentencing next month.One of the girls, identified in court only as Jane Doe 2, said she was working to put the experience behind her, and was working on forgiving Hickey, though ``I am conflicted,'' she said. ``Because I don't know how you came to be the way you are and feel sympathy for your sickness. She said she was nervous about speaking at the hearing, but would regret it if she didn't.``No teenager should be in a situation where they sit down and think about what they're going to say to a pedophile,'' Jane Doe 2 said. ``No parent should have to decide whether or not to tell their child that they have been assaulted. I hate that you put my family in that position.''Jane Doe 1 did not attend the hearing. Her older sister told Hickey that she wanted to attend, but ``was absolutely terrified to see your face.'' Duncan Hunter criticized Navy officials Monday for their plans to possibly remove a Navy SEAL acquitted of murder charges from the service against the wishes of President Donald Trump. Hunter commented Monday outside San Diego federal court regarding the Navy's handling of the war crimes case of Navy SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher, who was acquitted by a military jury this summer of stabbing a wounded teenage ISIS fighter to death in Mosul, Iraq, as well as other charges of attempting to kill unarmed Iraqi civilians. Hunter discussed the Gallagher case for about five minutes with reporters, but did not comment regarding his ongoing campaign fraud case, in which he's accused of misusing 0,000 in campaign funds for personal use. Hunter was indicted along with his wife on five dozen criminal counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy, and falsification of records. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials Wednesday reported seven more deaths in San Diego County due to influenza complications last week, bringing this flu season's death toll to 42.The seven residents were between the ages of 53 and 90 and all had additional medical issues. Only two of them had been vaccinated, according to the county Health and Human Services Agency. At this time last flu season, the county had received reports of 281 deaths due to flu complications.The county also saw a new weekly high for lab-confirmed flu cases at 545, according to the HHSA's weekly flu report. The county has recorded 5,486 confirmed flu cases so far this flu season, a far cry from the 17,397 reported at this time last flu season. County health officials touted the data in the weekly flu report as evidence that the current flu season may still be cresting."Influenza is still widespread in the region and continues to sicken San Diegans," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Anyone who has not yet had a flu vaccine this season should get it now."County health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly advise the annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older, especially demographics with a heightened risk of serious complications, such as pregnant women, people older than 65 and people with chronic conditions. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Officers found a man fatally wounded inside a vehicle in the Bay Terraces community of San Diego, a police lieutenant said Saturday.Officers discovered the vehicle off the road with no other vehicles around and it did not appear to have been involved in a traffic crash, San Diego Police Lt. Paul Conley said.Officers dispatched to the location a little before midnight in the 7000 block of Paradise Valley Road walked up to the vehicle and discovered a man behind the wheel suffering from a gunshot to the upper body, Conley said.Paramedics rushed the man to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, he said.The San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at 619-531-2293. 775
