RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Diego County gym owner has been charged with several misdemeanors for violating public health orders, according to the District Attorney’s Office.According to the DA, Peter San Nicolas, owner of Ramona Fitness Center, is facing five charges for “violation of California emergency services act.”According to the document, each of the misdemeanors carry a ,000 fine. The complaint states that from June 2 through July 17, San Nicolas “did refuse and willfully neglect to obey a lawful order.”San Nicolas says he violated the orders because he felt it was the right thing to do. He is getting legal help to fight the charges."It's about all businesses; small businesses like the salon across the street, the coffee shop down the road, the couple of new restaurants that have opened and are struggling." San Nicolas said. "It's not about me anymore. It's about all small business, and I feel it's my duty to stand up.""We understand and sympathize with the significant hardship placed on businesses who are required to remain closed. But public health orders are in place to safeguard the health of everyone in our community amid this deadly pandemic,” the District Attorney’s office said.“Along with our law enforcement partners, we work with businesses to give them opportunities to achieve voluntary compliance. But when the public health order is ignored and the law is broken, the public's health is at risk and we will file charges,” a statement continued. The move marks the first time the office has filed charges over the public health order. 1586

RANCHO PENASQUITOS -- A group of residents in Rancho Pe?asquitos is sounding the alarm about a trio of dense developments that could add 1,500 housing units within 1.5 miles of each other. The group, called PQ-NE Action, notes the northwest part of Rancho Pe?asquitos only has one road in and out. They are raising concerns that the road could not handle the influx in the case of an emergency, such as a wildfire evacuation. "We fully understand things are going to change, but not change to a point where the neighborhood becomes threatened from a safety standpoint," said Junaid Razvi, a 40-year resident and spokesman for the group. Two more could be on the site of the Hotel Karlan, which shut down Dec. 31. The hotel portion of the property could be rebuilt into as many as 370 homes. The Encinitas-area development company that owns it did not respond to requests for comment. Meanwhile, Lennar is proposing to build more than 530 new housing units on the hotel's old golf course.PQ-NE Action is now calling on Councilman Mark Kersey to step in. "They are moving fast on this, and so we would like to see a pause," Razvi said. RELATED: Making it in San Diego: Changing market could mean opportunity for entry-level San Diego homesIn a statement, Kersey said he understands the concerns and hopes the property owners will work with the community to address them.A spokeswoman for Lennar says the company will do exactly that as part of the approval permitting process. 1661

RANCHITA, Calif. (KGTV) - Three people were found dead Sunday at the wreckage site of a plane crash that sparked a fire on Volcan Mountain that began Thursday night, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The people have not been identified. The victims will be airlifted out of the mountain once conditions are safe, the sheriff's office said. The winds were too high on Sunday to fly to the location.Because of the wildfire that burned at the site of the crash along with difficult conditions, investigators could not reach the site until Sunday.CalFire said the fire is now 100 percent contained and burned 12 acres. Crews will still be mopping up the crash site for several days, CalFire said.About 70 firefighters spent the night into Saturday fighting back flames.Friday, San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) officials said they had located the wreckage of a "possible crash site" in the area, but could not reach it due to the fire. Cal Fire says the fire is burning “in an area that is steep and inaccessible to ground resources.”RELATED: Crews battling brush fire near Volcan Mountain in Julian area discover plane wreckage10News learned of the tail number of the reported plane involved late Friday. President Trump's campaign manager, Bill Stepien, released the following letter on social media in which he asks the Commission on Presidential Debates to "rethink and reissue a set of topics." Our letter to the BDC (Biden Debate Commission) pic.twitter.com/ZsY5JfMbT7— BillStepien (@BillStepien) October 19, 2020 The campaign would like to see new topics with an emphasis on foreign policy, which was expected to be a central focus of what would have been the third and final debate between the president and former Vice President Joe Biden.Stepien argues Americans deserve to know "if a major party candidate for president of the U.S. is compromised by the Communist Party of China."The letter called the commission's handling of what was supposed to be the second presidential debate "pro-Biden antics" that have "turned the debate season into a fiasco."Out of a concern for safety, a virtual debate was set for the candidates on Oct. 15. However, President Trump withdrew from the event - one that Stepien says the commission scheduled without consulting their campaign. Instead, both Biden and the president held televised town halls Thursday night. The next day, Moderator Kristen Welker of NBC released the six topics for the Belmont debate: “Fighting COVID-19,” “American Families,” “Race in America,” “Climate Change,” “National Security,” and “Leadership.”Stepien asks the commission to reissue a set of topics for the Oct. 22 debate at Belmont University in Nashville. He continues in the letter saying, "this is what the campaigns had agreed to and it has been the tradition in past campaigns...We further advise you that there is no reason to consult with the Biden campaign before replying because we all know what they think."In a statement released Tuesday morning, the commission responded, saying “no debate in 2020 was ever designated by CPD as devoted to foreign or domestic policy” and that “the choice of topics is left entirely to the journalistic judgment of the moderators.”Kristen Welker announced her topics for 10/22 on 10/16. We agree with Jason Miller, who said on Fox that Kristen is "a journalist who's very fair in her approach and I think that she'll be a very good choice for this third debate."— CPD (@debates) October 20, 2020 This story was first published by Rebekah Hammonds at WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee. 2354

Residents of a hospice in London woke up Sunday to a pleasant and sweet-smelling surprise: the flowers that surrounded the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day.The donated flowers, which adorned both St. George's Chapel and St. George's Hall in Windsor on Saturday, were designed by Philippa Craddock and a team of florists from Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The bouquets were made up of foxgloves, peonies, and white garden roses, many of which were sourced from the gardens and parkland of the royal-owned Crown Estate and Windsor Great Park.Kensington Palace confirmed that the flowers were donated to a number of charities and hospices. One recipient was St. Joseph's in Hackney, east London. "To see the faces of the patients when they received the flowers was just fantastic," hospice spokeswoman Claire Learner told CNN.St Joseph's has a long history of royal connections, having been visited by Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana and, most recently, Prince Edward, who toured the grounds in 2015, the hospice said. The ties to the royal family do not stop there. Pauline Clayton, an 89-year-old patient, once worked as an embroideress to Norman Hartnell, one of the Queen's dressmakers. She revealed that aged just 19, she worked for almost 50 hours on the train of the Queen's own wedding dress, according to the UK's Press Association.Clayton added that she thought the gesture to donate the flowers was "lovely."For Father Peter-Michael Scott, the hospice's lead chaplain, the gesture signified something altogether more fundamental."It is about the energy of love. We are absolutely thrilled by the flowers and wish them (Harry and Meghan) all the best for the future," he also told PA. 1732
