LAKESIDE, Calif.- Neighbors are shocked and saddened to hear about their neighbor's daughter's criminal background.Courtney Webber, 25, was arrested at her mother's Lakeside home Thursday night after a car matching her mother's car's description drove through a red light on Main Street at Sunshine Avenue and hit a 9-year-old boy riding his bike to Johnson Elementary School.READ RELATED:?El Cajon hit-and-run crash suspect found hiding under bedFifteen minutes from the crash, the home had a car in the carport, the A/C running and no one answering the door. Neighbors say the one car there didn't run. Iwona Matysiak said the mobile home park is family friendly and quiet. Both she and her catty-cornered neighbor Mitchel Phelps-Wiley say they don't know the Webbers well."With mom it was always, "Hi, how are you?" Matysiak said. Both confirmed she works for the Post Office.When it comes to dad, they say he comes and goes.As for Courtney, "she looks timid, shy," Phelps-Wiley said."Pretty young girl...I saw daughter a couple times, but never spoke to her so I couldn't even say her name because I don't know," Matysiak said.She said Thursday night police cars lined the park waiting for Courtney to come home, "I walked my dog it was dark, probably around 9... I saw cars and it was so quiet, I wondered what are they doing here?"Court documents show Courtney was convicted of drug and DUI charges in the past and was driving under a suspended license. Neighbors say the blue Honda Fit was mom's car and her sole mode of transportation."I feel so bad for the parents, I feel so bad for that little boy, i hope he will be fine," Matysiak said. 1717

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- While many drivers say a new Caltrans project in the East County is making SR-67 safer, some say it's literally making them sick to their stomach.Long considered one of the most dangerous roads in San Diego County, Caltrans is currently working on a million project to improve safety between Lakeside and Ramona.  A key part of the project is the installation of flexible posts called "channelizers" in the median.  Channelizers are bright yellow so they can be easily seen, helping prevent cars from drifting across the center into oncoming traffic."I think it'll save lives. I really do," Andy Jones tells 10News. Jones regularly drives the 67 for work.However, since the channelizers began being installed over the last few weeks, there have been a handful of reports of drivers becoming queasy.  One man told 10News the way the light reflects off the channelizers at night makes him feel nauseated.  The Ramona Sentinel reports that two people have called the Ramona Planning Board with similar complaints.Driver Donna Gines says the channelizers make her feel safer on her regular drives from Rancho Bernardo to Barona, but she can understand whey they could make some people feel ill."Some people don't react well to reflectors," she said. "It's kind of like a strobe light, maybe? And maybe it does make them dizzy."Caltrans tells 10News they have not received any direct complaints. However, after 10News raised the concern, Caltrans decided to do a review of how the channelizers are functioning.  They plan to send crews at different times of day to see if any changes need to be made. 1663

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Thousands of MGM Resorts employees will lose their jobs effective Aug. 31, according to a letter sent this morning by CEO Bill Hornbuckle.Approximately 18,000 are being laid off. It is unclear how many Las Vegas employees will be affected. Most but not all of the MGM Resorts properties have reopened in Las Vegas.The hotel-casinos were forced to close because of the coronavirus pandemic. They were allowed to reopen June 4 but business has not been the same.MGM Resorts also operates casinos in Mississippi, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York and overseas in Macao. It is not clear how many employees at each locations are impacted by the lay offs. LAS VEGAS — Neighbors living in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood were shocked to a see a home in their area vandalized with swastikas.Morley Fulgencio said he noticed the swastikas all over his garage, his driveway and the steps leading up to his front door when he was taking his daughter to school Thursday morning."I was flabbergasted," Fulgencio said.After a short drive around the neighborhood, Fulgencio realized that only his house was the one vandalized. He said he has no idea why his home was singled out.Fulgencio said he hopes this was just a prank. Neighbors rallied together to show support, knocking on his door to help. Neighbor Brian Judd even arranged for crews to clean up the vandalism for free. Fulgencio says he's been overwhelmed by the support, and that it shows the idea of Vegas Strong. "It shows whatever hatred is out there, it's outweighed by human kindness," Fulgencio said. No one has been arrested, and the incident remains under investigation according to police.  1062

Ladies, having your dog sleep with you could be the key to a great night's sleep, and that's according to science.The experiment titled, "An Examination of Adult Women's Sleep Quality and Sleep Routines in Relation to Pet Ownership and Bedsharing," studied 962 American women to see how pet ownership impacted their slumber.Fifty-five percent of the woman participating in the study let at least one of their dogs sleep in their bed, 31 percent of the women shared their bed with a cat.Research shows that while cats and human partners were "disruptive," dogs were peaceful bed companions. Unlike humans and cats, according to the study "dogs have an innate ability to comfort us and help us sleep soundly without disturbing us." 757
