Job searching amid the COVID-19 pandemic has proved tough for many. Businesses are either halting hiring or laying off employees. Some job-seekers, though, are finding a number of openings that essentially didn't exist before the pandemic."The pandemic's created a paramount shift in how companies are approaching safety for their employees and for their customers and so that’s led to a number of jobs that you didn’t really see much of before," says Patrick Beharelle, the CEO of recruiting company TrueBlue. He says a number of never-before-seen job openings are entering the market, including temperature checkers, disinfecting cleaning services and many more."Reconfiguration specialists. These are folks that are restructuring facilities for more social distancing, so wider aisles, as an example. Decontamination technicians. These are folks that are cleaning masks and PPE for healthcare workers and so these are positions you just didn’t see a lot of before," says Beharelle. Some of the positions, such as temperature checkers, are likely part-time or temporary."And then there's positions like contact tracers. Really, those didn't exist at all before and these are positions where folks work out of their homes and essentially are call center-type employees. They make anywhere from to an hour doing contact tracing," says Beharelle.At-home tech support is an in-demand field right now with openings.“There are virtual event planners, or people who help organizers change events that were supposed to be done in person into online virtual events," says Julia Pollak, with Zip Recruiter. Pollak says the job industry is also helping some entrepreneurs and small businesses who've turned to making face masks."I think these jobs will be around for a quite a long time, until we have a vaccine. And even then, a vaccine is not a magic bullet. We have many, many diseases that have not been eradicated even though we have a vaccine," says Pollak. 1969

KEARNY, N.J. — An uninvited guest made its way into several New Jersey suburbs, creating quite a stir inside normally quiet areas.Police believe a 300-pound bear is roaming around communities and was most recently seen in North Arlington. It was likely the same bear that was spotted in Kearny. It's not clear how a black bear ended up in the middle of densely populated areas like Kearny — and Harrison, beforehand — but some New Jersey residents needed a second to get their bearings after spotting the furry animal."I haven't seen any here, this is the first time. Surprised me. Especially close to my house," said Ruben Martinez. He barely noticed that it had climbed up a tree in his own backyard around 1 p.m. Monday. That was until he heard some commotion outside."When I went outside, that's when I found out. I saw police in my driveway, that's how I found out. Plus, I see a lot of people outside," Martinez said.Harrison police said the bear was first spotted on Saturday at the local Walmart and by Red Bull Arena. Officers snapped a picture with their bare hands and posted it on social media, warning people to be on alert."We did get a call from the town of Kearny that there was a bear was in the neighborhood and police were looking for it,” said Herbert Ginbel, a local resident.Police asked residents to bear with them as they tried to capture the animal. They've requested an animal control unit and notified the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife."I just hope everything will work out all right, and as a deacon I pray that the bear will be ok, and it can be returned to the habitat that I belongs,” Ginbel said. It's estimated the bear weighs 300 pounds. Ironically today marked the beginning of bear hunting season in New Jersey, though the governor said 2020 would mark the end of bear hunting under his administration. This story originally reported by Cristian Benavides and Rebecca Solomon on pix11.com. 1941

Kanye West had been a supporter of President Donald Trump. Then on July 4, the rapper announced he was running for president. He has filed to appear on several ballots, some successfully and others not.At this time, voters in Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah and Vermont will see West’s name on the presidential ballot. In West Virginia and Arkansas the rapper has made the ballot but the signatures he submitted have not been verified and a few of those states are actively questioning the validity of the signatures. He failed to make the ballot in Ohio because of "mismatched paperwork," according to state election officials on August 21. Specifically, information and the signature on West's nominating petition and statement of candidacy didn't match up to the documents used to circulate part-petitions.He missed being on the ballot in Wisconsin by less than a minute. The Wisconsin Elections Commission said the deadline is "no later" than 5 p.m., and they rejected West's attorney's claims that they had until 5:01 p.m. to file. Kanye did not gather enough signatures by the deadline to appear on the ballot in Missouri or his home state of Wyoming. While he successfully met the deadline in New Jersey, West withdrew his petition to be on the ballot over questions about the required signatures.West missed the deadline early on and will not appear on the ballot in New York, Kansas, Maine, South Carolina, Texas, Michigan and Florida.West has listed Wyoming spiritual coach Michelle Tidball as his vice presidential candidate on his filings. In mid-July, West received 2 percent in a nationwide poll. 1609

Kroger is making another big push into online groceries, this time by opening a digital business in China.America's largest grocery chain said Tuesday that it will start selling its Simple Truth-brand products on Alibaba's Tmall Global site.By partnering with Alibaba, Kroger can battle its biggest rivals on two fronts: It will expand its fledgling online business and will venture abroad for the first time. Tmall is internet giant Alibaba's e-commerce platform for foreign brands."E-commerce enables Kroger to quickly scale to reach new customers and markets where we don't operate physical stores, starting with China," Yael Cosset, Kroger's chief digital officer, said in a statement.Simple Truth is Kroger's line of natural and organic goods. The brand reached billion in sales earlier this year, the company said. It's the latest attempt by Kroger to compete with Amazon and Walmart as online shopping for groceries becomes increasingly popular. The company launched "Kroger Ship," a direct home delivery service, in four US cities earlier this month. And in May, Kroger signed an exclusive deal with UK online supermarket Ocado to use its technology in the United States.Partnering with Alibaba also gives Kroger a gateway into China's huge consumer market.More and more Western companies have been using this playbook. Starbucks recently announced that it is joining forces with Alibaba to launch coffee delivery services in September.Kroger's competitors also want to increase their presence in the region.Walmart and Alibaba competitor JD.com have reportedly decided to invest 0 million in Dada-JD Daojia, a Chinese online grocery delivery company. Walmart first took a position in JD.com in 2016.That partnership could get some new muscle from Silicon Valley. Google bought a 0 million stake in JD.com in June. The two tech firms plan to join forces to sell goods online across Southeast Asia, the United States and Europe. Google still can't offer its main services in China. 2067
