SAN FRANCISCO, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Amazon announced Thursday that it had reached an agreement with NBC Universal to allow its members to view certain movies from Universal Pictures on-line through its movie streaming service.According to the on-line retail giant, Oscar-winning movies such as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Gosford Park" and "Elizabeth" as well as other favorites like "Notting Hill" and "Billy Elliot" are part of the pact.The movies will be available to Amazon Prime members through its streaming service Prime Instant Video. Amazon Prime is a membership program that gives subscribers discounts on shipping for a 79 U.S. dollar annual fee.In February, Amazon said it would offer Prime customers unlimited access to an on-line video library. Last Wednesday, Amazon announced an accord with CBS that expanded the video library to more than 8,000 movies and TV shows. It said Thursday that the NBC deal will bring the number to more than 9,000.With the CBS, NBC Universal deals, Amazon steps up its rivalry against other movie streaming services, especially Netflix, a popular on-line and mail-order movie rental company which just boosted prices by 60 percent for some subscribers. COPENHAGEN, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed E. coli cases has risen to 14 in Denmark, with at least 26 others suspected of having the intestinal infection, the National Serum Institute said Monday.Seven of the confirmed cases show symptoms of kidney failure which marks an advanced stage of the sickness, the institute said."Almost all of the 14 infected people have been in northern Germany recently except just one. There is a 24-year-old man from Jutland. He has not even been to Germany, so he does not quite fit with the rest of the pattern," said Kaare Moelbak, chief physician at the institute. "We do not know yet how he has been so unlucky to get this infection but we assume that it has been a person-to-person transmission, or that he has eaten infected vegetables," he added.Denmark's Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) had advised Danish consumers not to eat raw tomato, lettuce and cucumber from Germany, and cucumber from Spain.It is now checking Danish cucumbers for traces of E. coli, with results expected on Tuesday.

DAMASCUS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The national archeological expedition recently discovered a gigantic building built with large-size hewn stones that date back to the Roman era, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said Wednesday.The building, the thickness of its walls up to 1.5 meters, was found at Qumet Nibal site in the northeastern province of Raqqa, said SANA.Ibrahim Kheir Bek, head of the archeological department in the area, told SANA that the excavation unearthed a 6-meter-long entrance to the building, adding that works are still underway in the site.A day earlier, the national archeological expedition discovered a mosaic dating back to the 6th century A.D. in northeast Syria, SANA said, adding that the rectangular mosaic was found at Hwaija Halawa site on the banks of al-Assad Lake in Raqqa province.Ayham al-Fakhri, head of the national expedition, was quoted by SANA as saying that the expedition uncovered 58 square meters of the mosaic with various colorful geometric shapes.
