SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people working on scaffolding on the side of a downtown high-rise were rescued Tuesday after their equipment became stuck.The two workers were stuck 42 stories in the air after their equipment failed just before 10 a.m., leaving their mobile scaffolding stuck, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.Fire crews climbed to the top floor 46 stories up and were lowered down to the trapped pair. Glass on the 43rd floor of the building was then removed and the workers were hoisted into the building. View this post on Instagram SD Fire-Rescue crews are on scene at a building under construction at 14th and Island. SDFD dispatchers received the request for assistance at about 9:50 Tuesday morning. Two construction workers were on a window washing lift when the lift stopped functioning and the workers were not able to move the lift. USAR 2, engines 2 and 4 and trucks 1 and 11 along with medic 10 responded. The technical rescue team went to the roof and set up the rope system. They lowered down to the construction crew outside the 42nd floor and were able to remove a window on the 43rd floor. The 43rd floor window served as the extraction point. The first construction worker was rescued at 10:52 and the second at 11:01 a.m. The firefighters are now in the process of retrieving their rescue equipment. No injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While many houses of worship have moved outdoors in compliance with the latest purple tier restrictions, others say this infringes on their religious rights.Many churches have chosen to keep their doors open for indoor worship, and a San Diego attorney is helping some fight this in court.“The restrictions on houses of worship are arbitrary,” said Paul Jonna, an attorney with law firm LiMandri & Jonna LLP. “No matter what size the church is, they’re closed indoors.”Jonna represents religious leaders and churches in three separate legal battles happening in Los Angeles, Kern, and San Diego counties.“You can’t treat a church like a hair salon,” he said. “Churches are entitled to heightened protection; if you’re going to restrict the fundamental right to exercise religion, which is protected under the first amendment, you need a really, really good reason.”He believes religious services are essential, and shutdown orders on churches are not constitutional.“It’s affecting people’s mental health, it’s affecting their spiritual health, for people of faith there’s nothing more important than going to church and worshiping God,” he said.The local church represented by Jonna is South Bay Pentecostal Church. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested Monday afternoon after police say she stole a vehicle with two children inside.Police say Rodney Cole left his 3-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter in his car with the engine and air conditioner running around noon on the 200 block of Euclid Avenue.After he went into a business, a witness reported seeing a woman, later identified as Leslie Saenz, get into the car and drive away with the children inside.Monday night Cole explained the terrifying ordeal to 10News.His 8-year-old daughter, Malaiha, told police she was able to call the police and tell dispatchers that she and her brother Jackson had been kidnapped. "They said, '911 whats your emergency?' and I said, 'me and my little brother got kidnapped,'" Malaiha said. "and (police) said, 'where are you and what can you see?' and I said, 'signs for the Mexico border.'""(The woman) tried to take the phone away from me but I moved away from her, and she said, 'give it to me, or I’m going to drive in circles and take this car and crash into the freeway wall.'"That's when she gave the phone to the woman, but the police acted quickly.  Roughly 30 minutes later after the car was stolen, Border Patrol detained the woman as she was trying to cross the border into Mexico.  Police have since taken Saenz into custody.Cole told 10News he bought the phone for the kids a few months ago, but it's not an activated line.
