Texas kicked off early voting Tuesday. People stood in long lines, voting in ways they've never done before. Some lined up before daylight on sidewalks outside major sports arenas to allow for more physical distancing.Early voting started Monday in Georgia and nearly 127,000 people cast their ballot, a first day record for the state.“There were hours-long wait times in some locations and glitches that added to the challenges,” said Mike Lydon, a principal at Street Plans. “Voting rights and having access to a safe and convenient polling location is going to really drive participation.”Street Plans is an urban planning and consulting firm that deals with transportation. They got a grant over the summer to put together a physical design plan for cities to best cope with social distancing, capacity restrictions and high voter turnout.“How you can make use of streets and public spaces to alleviate some of those issues and of course add some comfort elements like tents, seats, sanitation stations periodically throughout the queue,” said Lydon.The plans cover all types of polling locations, and how to properly do drive-up, curbside, outdoor and indoor voting.There are many potential problems for election officials when situations can change quickly.“COVID being this unknown variable, you could have a spike in the next three weeks at a certain location and that might totally change what was planned for in person indoor voting to go outdoors,” said Lydon.Street Plans is also offering free consulting assistance to cities. Stark similarities between a San Francisco brewery's beer can and the iconic soft drink cups used at In-N-Out prompted the burger chain to issue a cease and desist letter, though not without some light-hearted humor.Seven Stills Brewing recently crafted a new Neapolitan-style beer called "In-N-Stout," wrapped in a design resembling the much-loved burger chain's cup featuring palm trees and its signature yellow arrow.The resemblance is uncanny. So much so that it forced the burger chain to respond with a letter, politely asking the brewery to ditch the can.The brewery posted the pun-laden letter on Instagram, with the caption, "We count 9. Can you find them all?""Based on your use of our marks, we felt obligated to hop to action in order to prevent further issues from brewing," In-N-Out wrote. "We hope you appreciate, however, that we are attempting to clearly distill our rights by crafting an amicable approach with you, rather than barrel through this."We look forward to resolving this in good spirits," the letter ends.It's not the first time the brewery has taken inspiration from a popular brand. TAMPA, Fla. — Kids may be spending more time online this summer than in years past due to the coronavirus pandemic — and authorities warn online predators could use that extra, unsupervised time to their advantage."They had some incidences where people had broken into their Zoom calls, and what was great about that was because we had created a space where dialogue can happen, they told me about it," Damaris Allen, the Immediate Past President of the Hillsborough County PTA said. "That was really important because we had the groundwork laid."With school out and summer in full swing, many kids are spending their time online during the health crisis. Some officials worry now may be the most dangerous time for online predators."With camps being limited, parents being stretched thin, and kids spending more time online, it creates, unfortunately, a perfect storm for online predators," Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren said.Warren released a video on social media Monday with three tips for parents can take to help their kids have a "Secure Summer."First, the State Attorney says talk to your child and explain how they may be approached."Secondly, make sure that parents are actually watching what their kids are doing online," said Warren "Have the passwords, check to see what kids are doing and what information they're receiving."Warren also suggests using parental controls on devices and apps to choose what your child can access. His office says it has already seen online predators try to exploit children during the pandemic."Law enforcement is really paying attention to what's going on online now. We're working overtime to catch online predators," Warren said. "We're going to aggressively prosecute them. We won't stand for anyone trying to take advantage of our kids, especially during such a difficult time for all of us."Parents suggest starting that conversation now, so kids know they have a safe space to start a dialogue."This is a scary topic, don't avoid it because it's a scary topic," said Allen. TAMPA, Fla. — Police say that street racing led to the death of a mother struck by a vehicle while pushing her child in a stroller in Tampa, Florida. Three people have been arrested.According to Tampa Police, two cars were street racing down Bayshore Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon when one of the vehicles struck the mother and child near W. Knights Avenue in Tampa.Tampa police say the mother, 24-year-old Jessica Reisinger, and the 2-year-old child were sent to the hospital with serious injuries. Reisinger died at the hospital and the 2-year-old is currently in serious condition.  616
