SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For one local woman, President Trump's proposal for the death penalty for some drug dealers is sparking an emotional, internal debate."My daughter's character was so gracious.  She was beautiful inside and out," said Eva Faure.Her daughter, Eva Anderson was a trainer and aspiring journalist.  Six years ago, Anderson's life was cut short at the age of 23.  She was Faure's only child."The pain ... is an indescribable," said Faure.Faure says her daughter's opiate habit started when she tried her boyfriend's Oxycontin pills.  She says within 3 months, Eva was an addict. Around that time, Faure confronted Eva after she got sick, lost weight and her personality changed.  Eva revealed her addiction and agreed to enter rehab.  Faure says after nearly 2 years of being sober -- Eva's landlord found her dead from a methadone overdose in her La Jolla apartment.  While Faure still has questions about how the methadone got into her daughter, there's no questioning how she feels about those who traffic large amounts of opioids.     1114

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Explosions in a fake Mission Valley city teach the public and West Coast gas employees how to save lives.Training Supervisor Scott Hazlett says it's as easy as calling 8-1-1 two days before you plan to do any digging on your property.The importance highlighted after a Murrieta home exploded Monday from an ignited natural gas leak, killing one man and forcing four families out of their homes."There's a lot of potential sources of ignition, cigarette liters, cellphones, cameras, drones anything like that can actually you know ignite the gas, and create what you saw here today," Hazlett said after demonstrating what 60 lbs. of natural gas pressure lit on fire looks like. Onlookers described it as a fireball, with heat radiating feet in all directions.The lines are generally between two and three feet underground. "I wouldn't say anyone's safe... Anytime you're moving the earth other than with your hand any kind of shovel, you need to call that number," he said.An SDGE employee will come out within two days after the call, mark where the natural gas lines are around your property, and do it all for free.Hazlett said accidents happen often and the number of calls for repairs skyrocketed in 2018. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dog owners who live in Normal Heights are worried about the future of the off-leash dog park at Ward Canyon.Earlier this month, signs appeared saying the large-dog area would be closed through the end of March 2020. People who use the park say it's because a few neighbors complained about the noise to the local Advisory Committee.Because the large-dog area is closed, all sizes of dogs have been sharing the small-dog area next to it."It's really crowded," says dog owner Christina Ardon. "When people get off work, everyone's over here. It's a little bit of a madhouse.""It's intimidating to smaller dogs," says Jason Douglas-Hiley. "They won't come into the park because they're afraid of the large dogs harassing the smaller dogs."Meanwhile, the City of San Diego has plans to renovate the entire park. Renderings show the area where the large-dog park currently sits would be turned into a community garden. The small-dog park would be expanded.But, City Councilmember Chris Ward's office says there is no funding for that project, and no timetable for when it could be added to the budget.People who use the park say they're afraid it will disappear while the project sits in limbo."To have to wait 2-5 years for them to construct a new park is a lifetime for a dog," says Douglas-Hiley.Park supporters have started a petition, asking the city to safeguard the small-dog area and also fence off a different portion of Ward Canyon for large dogs to use.
