SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thursday, San Diego Sheriff's investigators asked the public for help locating a Fallbrook man who disappeared in 2018.Officials say 50-year-old Arnoldo Loaiza Franco was reported missing on Aug. 10, 2018, by his family in Fallbrook, But the last time Franco had communication with anyone was on Aug. 1. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The officer who saved two twin toddlers and their dad after their father drove off Sunset Cliffs was recognized for his heroic efforts this week.San Diego Police K9 officer Jonathan Wiese was awarded the Medal of Valor and Heroic Act award from the California Surf Lifesaving Association and United States Lifesaving Association for his efforts to save the three people on June 13.SDPD received a call about a suicidal man with twin two-year-old girls driving with the intention of careening off the Coronado Bridge. Wiese was able to get the man and the two girls from the car to the shore."I could see him and he had one of the girls in his arms, and I have a two-year-old daughter at home so I imagined, what if that was my wife and kid down there? You're not going to stand there on the cliff and watch it happen," he told ABC 10News in June. "And by then four or five other cops had shown up so I pretty much threw the end of the leash to them and then I said hang on and I just jumped off."The officer also performed rescue breathing on one of the girls who was limp after being pulled from the wreck.Wiese is the same officer who helped apprehend the suspected Poway synagogue shooter in April 2019. According to the Humane Society, animal cruelty is one of the earliest and most dramatic indicators that someone may be developing a pattern of seeking power and control by abusing others. The Humane Society says when animals in the home are abused or neglected, it is a warning sign that others in the home may be in danger. “Often times when animals are being abused, people are being abused too,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, President and CEO of San Diego Humane Society. “That’s why it’s so important to report animal cruelty and neglect when you see it.”Anyone who wants to report animal cruelty is asked to call the Humane Society at 619-299-7012. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The young woman killed while walking on Interstate 8 in the College Area Saturday was a San Diego State University Student, the Daily Aztec reported.The California Highway Patrol said the woman was on the right hand shoulder of westbound I-8 at Waring Rd. just before 8 p.m. when she was struck and killed.Officers shut down most lanes of the freeway to investigate the crash.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman Monday as 20-year-old Jasmine Madarang.The Daily Aztec reported she was last seen at a Kappa Alpha tailgate party before SDSU's game against Stanford.CHP investigators are looking into the cause of Madarang's death. 706
