A Phoenix mom allegedly used a 'touch Taser' to get her teenage son up for church services. Phoenix Police report that on Easter Sunday 40-year-old Sharron Dobbins allegedly "contact tazed her teenage son on the leg."Police say Dobbins told them that she, "only sparked the Taser to get the kids up for church on Easter." The boy was not injured but had two small bumps on his leg where he says the Taser was used. Dobbins was arrested for child abuse. 485

A sergeant involved in the search for a missing hiker in Zion National Park says there are several discrepancies he sees in the case of her 12-day survival in the park.Holly Courtier went missing while hiking in the park on October 6. A rescue effort involving the national park’s team and others, including K-9 teams and trained investigators, found Courtier on October 18 after a credible tip of a possible sighting.Her family said Courtier hit her head, became disoriented, and was able to stay near a “water source” in the park.In an interview with ABC4 in Salt Lake City, Sgt. Darrell Cashin says he finds some “discrepancies and questions that do not add up.”Cashin is a liaison with Washington County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, a job he’s had for about nine years, in addition he says he has 25 years experience on search and rescue teams.One thing he says didn’t add up was the water source. Park officials say Courtier was found along the Virgin River, but Cashin says that river was likely not drinkable or at least would have caused her to get sick.In August, Zion National Park officials sent out a warning to all visitors to avoid contact with the Virgin River “until further notice” because of levels of cyanobacteria from a toxic algal bloom.“If she had been drinking that water, unless she had some really high immune system, she would’ve been very, very ill and probably unable to come out on her own,” Cashin told ABC4. “She either took a lot of water with her or had another clean water source that was near here, but the Virgin River is not that source.”CNN reports the family told them Courtier was only able to take a few steps before collapsing. However, Zion National Park officials report she was able to walk out of the park on her own with minimal assistance. She was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out and stayed the night.In the interview with CNN, Courtier’s family does not clarify if the water source was potable, but they did say Courtier was without food while she was lost in the park.Cashin alleges there are also questions about her decision to go on the hike. A San Diego teenager will use her family's Spring Break trip to Washington, D.C., to advocate for stronger gun control laws.Faith Campbell, a Sophomore at Frances Parker School in Linda Vista, already has a meeting set up with Representative Susan Davis to discuss gun reform. She also has a stack of hand written letters from herself and her classmates to deliver to other area Congressmen and women."A letter is really powerful," Campbell says. "It shows that someone took the time out of their day to write specifically to this person."Campbell says she wrote a letter to Representative Davis after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February. Rep. Davis wrote back asking is she would like to meet.Campbell took part in last month's March for Our Lives in San Diego, joining thousands of others to call for stricter gun control laws. But she says she doesn't want the momentum to stall now that the protests and marches are over.Now, Campbell is inviting all of her classmates and fellow teens to write letters. She says she'll deliver them while she's in DC."It doesn't really matter how many letters I get," she says. "It's just the fact that people are writing."She says she'll take any letter written by a teen if they can get it to her by this Friday, April 13th. A New York City woman is taking to social media in hopes of using her voice and her story to make a difference for Black women fighting breast cancer. According to the CDC, breast cancer death rates are 40 % higher among Black women then white women.Suzette Simon wears a superhero costume to chemotherapy, and says, she's armed with superhero strength. She's also taking social media by storm, filming things like "live from chemo.""I’ll do a dance duet but then at the bottom, I’ll say yah I’m dancing, but I want you to know 40% of Black women who get cancer die from it,” Simon said.For Simon, this fight is personal. It started 30 years ago when her mom, Aline, a Black woman who had no health insurance, died alone in a New York public hospital at age 62.“I don’t think she had an advocate and I think that’s part of the reason why I do this, because she didn’t have an advocate,” Simon said.“Now that I’m going through my own cancer, I want to use it to advocate for others. I want to use my superpowers,” Simon said. “I come from television. My background is comedy and so I have superpowers. I want to make people happy I want to make people laugh.”She was diagnosed in January and has decided to put her creativity and energy on the internet. She hopes to educate and empower black women.“Harriet Tubman had strong Black boobs, Rosa Parks had strong Black boobs, but they didn’t have a superhero, and 42% of those strong Black boobs got cancer,” Simon said. “Maybe not them, but there are a lot of heroic women with strong Black boobs that got cancer so I’m here to be that superhero for those women with strong Black boobs.”The CDC states that breast cancer is found earlier in white women and that the number of cases is higher among Black women who are younger than 60 years old.Dr. Caroline Elistin, assistant dean of faculty at Chamberlain University College of Nursing, says there's a reason behind the disparities in healthcare.“I believe that trust has something to do with it. In the current workforce diversity amongst physicians is limited- you want the individual who is caring for you and trust them -when they look like you,” said Dr. Elistin said, who works in medical oncology in South Florida. She says breast cancer is just one of the types of cancer she treats.“Mounting evidence suggests when physicians and patients share the same race or ethnicity, it improves the time spent together the medication adherence the decision making- wait times with treatment as well,” Dr. Elistin said.Those in poorer areas she says, don't have the same opportunities, which leads to a lack of success. And that is just one aspect of the societal problem.“Has this breast surgeon ever worked with Black women? It became a journey,” Simon said. “I was not going to be my mom, in a hallway trying to get help. I was not going to be that person.”The #strongblackboobs movement lives on, she says, through smiles and joy, even in pain.“And just laughing through the most difficult time of life- it's a funny time- when you know you could die it's the funniest time ever- you’ve gotta have a good time,” Simon said.And she says, you have to spread the message of awareness, which is just one aspect of her movement to make a difference. 3253

A top official in the Coast Guard has tested positive for COVID-19, according to CNN and NBC News.Admiral Charles Ray, the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard, tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend after experiencing mild symptoms.ABC News reports that all members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are self-isolating following Ray's positive test result.
