LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas State Police say a man suspected of stealing a taxi was fatally shot by a trooper after the man stabbed and wounded another law enforcement officer over the weekend.State police say 58-year-old Aloysius Keaton of Little Rock crashed the stolen cab while exiting off Interstate 30 and stabbed an Arkansas Highway Patrol officer who tried to arrest him.Police say the trooper shot Keaton after a shock from a stun gun failed to stop him as he approached the trooper with the weapon.The trooper ordered Keaton to stop and drop the weapon, but police say he failed to comply with the order and charged toward the officer, who then shot the suspect with a handgun.Keaton later died from his injuries at an area hospital Saturday night.State police say the Highway Police officer was treated and released and the trooper was uninjured.Keaton’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where an autopsy will be conducted.The trooper remains on paid administrative leave and has not yet been identified. 1056

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nearly 200 people turned out for a vigil in Lakeside honoring two teenagers killed in a car accident last weekend. Isaac Culkin and Justin Kyte were killed on Saturday, Jan. 11 when the car they were riding in crashed into a tree. Two others in the car suffered moderate injuries, but survived. Those closest to the boys gathered at the scene of the crash for a candlelight vigil, a moment of silence and prayer. The teens' closest friends remembered them as hardworking, funny boys who loved to have fun offroading the desert. CHP says Kyte was behind the wheel when he lost control of the car and hit a tree on Willow Road. Culkin was in the passenger seat. CHP says speed was a factor, but it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved. Services for Culkin are scheduled Thursday, January 23rd. Information on Kyte's services have not been made public. (KGTV) - New research at UC San Diego has found that breast milk does not spread the Coronavirus."I think it's safe to say that breast milk is safe, that donor milk is safe, and that the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh the risks," says Dr. Lars Bode, the Director of the UC San Diego Mommy’s Milk Human Milk Research Biorepository, which conducted the study. "We don't have any risks identified at this point."A preliminary research letter, published in August in the Journal of the American Medical Association, found "No replication-competent virus was detectable in any sample."The study analyzed multiple breast milk samples from women who had recently given birth and been infected with SARS-COVID-2, the disease that causes coronavirus. Among 64 samples from 18 different women, they found nothing that could transmit the virus.READ THE REPORTThe Center now has around 400 women enrolled in the study to ensure the results play out over extensive scale testing."Having the information and knowing what the risks are and what you might expect and being prepared for that, it certainly can help reduce anxieties related to having these types of infections," says Dr. Christina Chambers, a pediatrician at UC San Diego.In addition to looking for virus transmission, the researchers are also looking into whether breast milk can transfer antibodies from mother to baby and help the child gain immunity without a vaccine."When mom gets infected, she produces the antibodies," says Dr. Bode. "It's not just in her plasma. It also gets handed over to the milk, and we've seen this for many other diseases as well. There's some act of protection to antibodies and other components in human milk that protect the infant directly."Dr. Bode says they may be able to find a way to synthesize the compounds containing the antibodies so other adults can get their benefit without having to take breast milk away from infants.UC San Diego's MotherToBaby Pregnancy Studies is also running a research project on Coronavirus's effects on pregnant women and babies still in the womb. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office released the identities of the two men killed in a paragliding accident over the weekend. The ME identified the victims as 43-year-old Glenn Johnny Peter Bengtsson, of Carlsbad, and Raul Gonzalez Valerio, 61, of Laguna Hills.Questions still remain regarding the double fatal collision at Torrey Pines Gliderport on Saturday afternoon. The two certified pilots were flying their paragliders when they collided into each other, fell into a cliff, and died, authorities said.RELATED: 2 paragliders dead after colliding in mid-air, crashing into cliffMany who were at the Gliderport said Saturday's weather conditions were absolutely perfect, so they do not believe the incident was weather-related. While many people were flying, they said there were not enough people in the air at the time, so there wasn’t any aerial traffic jam. They both were aware of the rules -- to keep a safe distance between each other, and that the glider along the ocean needs to make way for the one flying along the cliffs, who has the right-of-way. So what exactly happened? Many 10News spoke to said it must have been a freak accident. Now, the Torrey Pines Gliderport staff, San Diego police, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, and the Medical Examiner's Office are working to find answers. (KGTV) -- The family of a La Mesa woman says their mother in a medically induced coma after getting shot with a projectile that lodged between her eyes.Leslie Furcron was among thousands of people protesting Saturday night in front of the La Mesa Police Department. She was recording on Facebook Live. You can hear her yelling, then the phone drops, and the screen goes black."She was brutally attacked on a peaceful protest. If I commit a crime. I'm going to jail, no if's and or buts about it," said one of her sons, Ahmed Furcron.He says bystanders rushed her to the hospital. Her prognosis is unclear, but the family says she may lose an eye.Attorney Dante Pride is representing the family. Pride and other family members held a news conference outside the La Mesa Police Department Tuesday. "We are going to get justice. We will not be silenced, everyone who is watching this I want you to call the La Mesa police department and ask them what is that officer's name who decided he could attempt to murder a non-violent protestor?" asked Pride.Pride says the police department hasn't provided any information about what happened. The family believes she was hit with a rubber bullet or bean bag casing, but they're waiting for the hospital to confirm.During the news conference, a reporter said they had witness information that Furcron through a bottle, but the family says that is absolutely false."I have no evidence that she threw anything, she dropped a can when she got shot," said Pride."Even if she did throw a can, does she deserve to get shot in the face, that's all we want to know," said Ahmed.Pride also points to the La Mesa Police Departments' own training rules, which say bean bag munitions should not be aimed above the waist.
