A father and son are accused of slaughtering a female black bear and her two cubs as they rested in their den in April.Andrew Renner, 41, and Owen Renner, 18, of Palmer, Alaska face several felony and misdemeanor charges related to illegal hunting. It is against the law to shoot a black bear with cubs in Alaska.Alaska Wildlife Troopers, which announced the charges on Monday, said the act was caught on a motion-activated camera set up inside the den to monitor the bears as part of a study being conducted by the US Forest Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The camera produced both video and audio of the encounter."In this case numerous crimes, including felonies, are believed to have been committed," trooper Col. Steve Smith said. Smith said the truck and boat used to transport the Renners to and from the bears' den have been seized.The father and son were out skiing together on April 14 when they approached the inhabited den, troopers said in a statement.The video captures Owen Renner firing two rounds at the adult bear inside her den, the troopers said. Andrew Renner then killed the "shrieking" newborn cubs and discarded their bodies outside the den, the statement said.Court documents obtained by CNN affiliate KTVA say that Andrew Renner is captured on video saying: "It doesn't matter. Bear down."The men also removed the adult bear's tracking collar."They'll never be able to link it to us," Owen Renner said, according to the court documents.Two days later, the men were captured on video returning to the den to pick up shells casings and dispose of the bear cubs, troopers said.Two weeks later, on April 30, Andrew Renner brought the adult bear's skin and tracking collar to officials at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, saying that he realized after shooting it that it was a nursing bear and had not seen any cubs.The men have been charged with unlawfully taking a female bear with cubs, unlawfully taking a bear cub and possessing and transporting illegally taken game. A federal jury in Oregon on Friday acquitted an FBI agent accused of lying to authorities about whether he opened fire during the fatal shooting of LaVoy Finicum, one of the leaders of the occupation of federal property in 2016.Agent W. A Howard County, Maryland fire fighter and first responder wasn’t even working when he risked his own life to save another.  Ryan Glenn said it was just instinct.  Glenn said he was driving along The Chesapeake Bay Bridge when he saw a man threatening to jump.  “I saw the gentleman standing on the railing and he was on the railing holding on to the guardrail,” said Glenn.At it’s center, The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is 180 feet, a dizzying height for anyone. Glenn was off duty, happened to be on the bridge and jumped in to help.“I said hey, there’s a lot of people who care about you.  Let’s not do this, come down and talk.  I’m here for you, I care about you,” Glenn told the distraught man.With the help of two other off duty officers, who just happened to be on the bridge as well, Glenn began the negotiating.“I managed to get closer and closer to him and probably about two feet away from him, I said, just take my hand and let’s get you down from here.”But that’s not what happened. “He looks down at the water and looked at me again and then he did the unthinkable.  He went from the railing of the bridge to a cross member I-beam type of material on the bridge and jumped on it.  At that point, he was just holding on by his grip and his feet were dangling over the water” remembered Glenn.As a trained professional, Glenn was comfortable risking his own life to save another.“At that point, all three of us, it was just like instinct, all three of us, reached over the railing and grabbed him and pulled him over,” Glenn said.“You’re conditioned to it, if you see something wrong, we run to the problem, we try to fix things.”The man was taken to safety and then to the hospital for treatment. 1758

A federal judge ruled Monday Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf’s COVID-19 pandemic restrictions are unconstitutional.Four counties in the state filed a lawsuit claiming the governor’s orders closing non-life-sustaining businesses and limiting outdoor gatherings, and stay-at-home orders were unconstitutional. They stated the orders were "arbitrary, capricious and interfered with the concept of 'ordered liberty' as protected by the Fourteenth Amendment."Plaintiffs included hair salons, a drive-in theater, other businesses, as well as state representatives and congressman Mike Kelly.In his ruling, the judge says the governor’s actions likely had good intentions, “to protect Pennsylvanians from the virus," but that "even in an emergency, the authority of government is not unfettered."U.S. District Judge William Stickman IV ruling reads, “"(1) that the congregate gathering limits imposed by defendants' mitigation orders violate the right of assembly enshrined in the First Amendment; (2) that the stay-at-home and business closure components of defendants' orders violate the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment; and (3) that the business closure components of Defendants' orders violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment."In his written opinion, Judge Stickman continued his explanation of his ruling."There is no question that this country has faced, and will face, emergencies of every sort. But the solution to a national crisis can never be permitted to supersede the commitment to individual liberty that stands as the foundation of the American experiment. The constitution cannot accept the concept of a 'new normal' where the basic liberties of the people can be subordinated to open-ended emergency mitigation measures,” Stickman wrote."Rather, the Constitution sets certain lines that may not be crossed, even in an emergency.
