British Prime Minister Theresa May will leave Downing Street once her twice-rejected Brexit withdrawal deal from the European Union has been delivered, according to a Conservative Party lawmaker. She did not give a date for her departure.May was speaking at Westminster to the 1922 Committee, the influential group of all backbench Conservative Members of Parliament."She has said that she will not stay through to the next phase of negotiations. If they (MPs) back the deal she will go," Conservative Party lawmaker Simon Hart said of Prime Minister Theresa May."No timescale was talked about or given," Hart told CNN. "The implication was if she gets her deal through, that will kick start the process to find a new leader almost immediately."He added that the atmosphere was "respectful" and May "was as animated as I'd ever seen her at committee. She was passionate but not emotional. We are all traumatized at this point by these negotiations."Even if May has secured support from the longstanding opponents to her deal -- including arch-Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg and former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson -- Speaker of the House John Bercow has ruled her deal must be substantively different from the previous two occasions before it can be put forward in the House of Commons for the third time.Lawmakers reacted to the news on Twitter, including Anna Soubry, who recently left the party to join a breakaway cross-party bloc known as the Independent Group. Animal advocates want every shelter pet to live to find its forever home, and they hope a new tool will help connect people with the animals most in need."We're gonna head to one area that's called the "cruelty corridor." There are a lot of stray animals that are dumped in this area," animal control officer Bradi Jamison says. “I had never realized how many stray animals there were in Houston until I started working this job."Jamison starts her job early in the morning to catch stray dogs, before it's too hot. When sweeping an area like the "cruelty corridor," Jamison says she and her team can pick up around 30 animals per day."It is awful. Most of them are not strays," she says. It's the owners allowing their dogs to be unleashed and roam loose."Homeless pets are a national problem. According to the 823
Are selfie photographs spurring an increase in deaths at Grand Canyon National Park? Not necessarily. In fact, more deaths at the park occur from medical issues and heat-related woes than falls that occur while taking photos. However, a 67-year-old man died Wednesday after falling over the edge of the Grand Canyon. It is not clear what led him to fall. His death is the third at the popular tourist destination in eight days. The visitor fell Wednesday near the Yavapai Geology Museum, which is on the South Rim in Grand Canyon Village, according to the National Park Service.Grand Canyon National Park rangers responded and found the man's body about 400 feet below the rim. Helicopter and technical rescue teams recovered the body and park service officials are investigating.Last week, two people died while visiting the canyon. On Thursday, a man from Hong Kong was taking pictures at an overlook when he slipped and fell, according to the Grand Canyon West. The man, who was in his late 50s, was part of a tour group visiting the Eagle Point observation area at Grand Canyon West and was apparently taking a selfie, according to David Leibowitz, a spokesman for Eagle Point."The thoughts and prayers of every Grand Canyon West employee remain with the loved ones of this individual and the members of the tour group," the tourist destination said in a statement. The first of the three deaths was not the result of a fall, according to Vanessa Ceja-Cervantes, a spokeswoman for the Grand Canyon National Park. She said the victim was a foreign national and that the body was found March 26 in a forested area south of the South Rim Village area of the park. The park service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation."On average, there about 12 fatalities in the park per year, but a small percentage of those are from fatal falls," said Ceja-Cervantes. "The causes of those deaths range from heat, to drowning, to medical issues and more. High elevation plays a role in some of the fatalities." 2038
Any way you slice it, social media has become the place to debate — even how a person slices his bagel for consumption.Twitter user Alek Krautmann tweeted a photo of a "St. Louis secret" showing boxes of bagels sliced vertically, like loaves of bread.Other twitter users responded in disbelief at the practice and tweeted back. One included a photo of hands holding New England clam chowder, and another showing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made with the condiments on the outside of the sandwich instead of together on the inside. How do you slice your bagels? 578
