CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A San Diego woman is recounting the gruesome story of digging up her murdered sister's body in a Tijuana backyard.Erika Gonzalez last heard from her 32 year old sister, Fernanda Gonzalez on February 2. One unanswered text turned into dozens before Gonzalez reported her sister missing three days later. The same day she was reported missing, her husband was shot inside their Tijuana home. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center and treated for his gunshot wound. He was unable to answer any questions about the shooting and his missing wife, so Gonzalez took to Facebook and asked for help. Gonzalez tells 10News each post had thousands of shares before she got a phone call that changed the course of the search, "somebody call me and said to keep looking for my sister because she was already dead and in the back of her yard". Following that call were two others that said the same thing, "three different people telling the same story it has to be true" Gonzalez says she immediately called the Tijuana investigator on the case but she says they said they wouldn't be able to get to the house for a few days. "Sunday my dad calls me and tells me that he wants to look for my sister."Gonzalez tells 10News they went directly to her home in Tijuana and started their own search for answers. Gonzalez and her father dug up parts of the backyard while her mother and sister searched inside the home. After some time of digging, Gonzalez tells 10News she saw her sister's boot and knew they had found her, "we just start screaming and walking from here to there not knowing what to do."Tijuana police got to the house about 20 minutes after they called to say they found the body. Tuesday, investigators had a search warrant and taped off the entire street so they could search the home. Officials say they do not have any suspects in custody. 1878

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District Board unanimously passed a revised and balanced budget for the 2018-2019 school year.It comes after they discovered a million accounting mistake. The budget did not take into account staff raises.The budget changes are a combination of spending freezes, furloughs, as well as money received from education grants and funds.The revised budget freezes several positions currently open.It also puts district officials on furlough days. “Based on your level of management we’re asking for different days there. So it’s a scale based on your positions. Our superintendent, for example, is gonna be doing ten furlough days this year,” Manny Rubio, a district spokesman, said.The district also worked with the unions, so teachers will give up two so-called ‘training days,’ which are paid, non-classroom days.The budget also touches on other cost-saving measures, including energy conservation strategies, consolidating summer school sites and cutting back on faculty travel expenses.The budget will head to the San Diego County Office of Education, which has until Nov. 8 to approve it. 1188

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A frightening scene for any family to witness was captured on video just before Valentine’s Day outside an East Chula Vista gas station. A clip posted to Facebook shows a man screaming racial obscenities at a female customer while the woman he’s with calmly pumps gas into their car.The incident reportedly happened at the Shell gas station at the Village Marketplace in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista at around 4 p.m., according to the victim.In a Facebook video post, the victim wrote that the man had approached her car and began shouting vulgarities then returned to his car. “No there is nothing done prior to this on my part. No there was nothing wrong that I knew of. No, there was no history," the victim wrote in the Facebook video post."No, I've never seen this couple before. No, there were no words exchanged between us, no eye contact, he just began to spew hateful commentary when he saw me get out to pump," the victim said.Sensing that something may happen, the victim used her cellphone to record the encounter, and that's when the man approached her again.The video shows a man with face and arm tattoos jumping out of the passenger seat of a light colored Nissan Versa hatchback. He approaches the victim’s car while flashing both middle fingers and screaming, “F*** n*****s!”The man then walked up to the victim’s vehicle and spit on the windshield.10News is not identifying the victim for her own protection.According to the victim, the couple drove away after the woman finished pumping gas.“I am beyond grateful that he, for some reason, changed his mind and did not spit on me or put his hands on me,” the victim said.The woman called Chula Vista Police about five hours after the confrontation at the gas station, according to Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum. Officers took information from the woman and followed up with her Friday to gather more information and documentation, Collum said. They will evaluate the evidence to see if it amounts to a criminal offense. Collum said police do not know the identity of the man seen in the video. “This is highly unusual,” said Collum. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several Chula Vista elementary schools are working to give students hands-on engineering experience the district says they can take into the job market. On August 1, 2016, a new type of learning burst into being with the start of the Innovation and Energy Station in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The station helps teach students STEM. The station serves sixth grade students as well as serving as a community lab. In 2018, the lab grew again to include the Energy Station at Saburo Muraoka Elementary School. In August of this year, the program grew yet again to include the Hydro Station, which teaches students about the water industry. The lab begins by helping students identify which careers align with their interests while highlighting jobs in San Diego’s priority sectors. “It was designed to give students the opportunity to learn about their own strengths," Michael Bruder, District engineering teacher told 10News. “The students’ eyes light up when they see the lab space. You get the ‘Wow’ effect. You literally hear the students say ‘Wow!’ as they enter,” Bruder continued. At the Energy Station, students use Minecraft to create an energy efficient home and/or landscape. Students exploring other themes could be testing wind turbines or building circuits. The program also offers students a connection with local employers, giving them the chance to connect their hands-on experience and the region’s in-demand skills. Qualcomm, Microsoft, SDG&E, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association all partner with the program. “I want employers to realize that career education must start before high school,” says Matthew Tessier, assistant superintendent of innovation and instruction at CVESD. “We’d love to partner with more people and expand to every single priority sector.”Click here to learn more about the program. 1950

(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in Chula Vista, police announced Tuesday.On May 15, Chula Vista police were called to the 200 block of G Street in response to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon officers’ arrival, Fredrick Wood was found on the ground with gunshot wounds.Wood was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.Through their investigation, police learned Wood was “shot inside a nearby residence belonging to Enrique Delgado. The victim then ran into the street after being shot, where he collapsed.”Police said Delgado was nowhere to be found.According to police, investigators tracked down Delgado on June 11 at a motorhome in San Diego. Police said Delgado “admitted to shooting Mr. Wood during a dispute, refused to surrender and stated he was armed with a firearm.”A SWAT team was called to the scene as Delgado barricaded himself in the motorhome. He eventually surrendered without incident.Police reported “several firearms and a large quantity of narcotics were also located inside Delgado’s motorhome at the time of arrest.”Delgado was booked into jail and faces charges of murder, possession of narcotics for sale, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, illegal possession of an assault weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm and having a concealed weapon in a vehicle. 1468
