ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Wil Myers hit a first-inning grand slam and the San Diego Padres, with Fernando Tatis Jr. again leading the charge, beat the Texas Rangers 6-4.Tatis fueled a 14-4 rout Monday with a grand slam and seven RBIs. His homer came on a 3-0 pitch from Juan Nicasio in the eighth inning, rankling Texas manager Chris Woodward and the Rangers over what they perceived as breaking one of baseball's unwritten rules. In Tuesday’s game, Tatis singled and scored on Myers' slam.Jurickson Profar added a 2-run shot in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, with the Padres ahead 6-0, Tatis stole third base. The stolen bag, his sixth of the season, put him into a tie for the MLB lead. The Rangers scored four times in the bottom of the fourth off reliever Javy Guerra, but the much-maligned Padres bullpen weathered the storm and made the 6-4 lead stand.Cal Quantrill got the final out for his first save. 923

An 87-year-old grandmother using a knife to cut dandelions in the woods near her rural Georgia home last week was taken down by a police Taser and arrested, according to a police report.Martha Al-Bishara was arrested for criminal trespass and obstruction of a police officer, according to the report. Chatsworth Police said Al-Bishara did not drop a steak knife despite several commands and a demonstration by officers. At one point, she walked toward officers with the knife, police said.Police had gone to a wooded area near a Boys and Girls Club last Friday after an employee called 911 to report that an elderly woman was walking around with a knife in the community, around 80 miles north of Atlanta."There's a lady walking on the bike trails, she has a knife and she won't leave," the caller told a dispatcher. "She told me she doesn't speak English, and she's walking up the trail with a knife towards me.""It looks like she's walking around looking for something, vegetation to cut down or something. She has a bag too," the caller said. The Boys and Girls Club employee told the dispatcher that the woman did not seem to be a threat. "But she came at you with a knife, though, right?" the dispatcher asked. "No, she just brought the knife onto the property in her hand, she didn't try and attack anybody or anything," the caller said. 1350

An Ohio state legislator is urging people not to get tested for COVID-19.Republican State Rep. Nino Vitale made the request on his state representative Facebook page Tuesday after the state announced that counties determined to be "high-risk" for COVID-19 would require face coverings be worn in public."Are you tired of living in a dictatorship yet?" Vitale said. "This is what happens when people go crazy and get tested. STOP GETTING TESTED!"Vitale claimed testing is "giving the government an excuse to claim something is happening that is not happening at the magnitude they say it is happening."Vitale's claim echoed those made by President Donald Trump last month at a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma — that an increase in testing is leading to disproportionately high case numbers. Trump has said he has asked administration officials to "slow down" testing to artificially deflate numbers, though many in his administration dispute those claims.Daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 have steadily risen in Ohio since the beginning of June as testing has increased. But according to figures from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, it's not just new cases that are on the rise in Ohio — deaths are also beginning to tick up, and hospitalization resource use is also on the rise, indicating that an increase in testing is not the only factor in the numbers spike.Currently, about 20 people die each day of COVID-19 in Ohio. The IHME estimates that with universal mask requirements, that number would drop to about four a day by Sept. 1.Ohio currently lists seven counties that are considered "high risk." Vitale's district does not fall in any of those counties.Despite recommendations from health experts, Vitale has consistently rallied supporters against the use of masks and face coverings. In May, he said he chooses not to wear a mask because he wants others to see he is made in God's image and likeness. 1960
