SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric says it's going forward with the second planned power shut-off this week because of growing winds and high fire danger in Northern California.The utility says blackouts will begin around 2 p.m. Saturday in parts of 36 counties. About 940,000 customers — more than 2 million people — will be affected.It's the third preventative shut-off in as many weeks amid concern that gusty winds could knock down power lines and spark fires.Winds picking up Saturday night could gust to more than 85 mph (137 kph) and make conditions extremely difficult for firefighters trying to tame a huge blaze in wine country. 659

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - Christmas morning, more than 700 families drove through a toy and food distribution at the Jacobs Center on Euclid Avenue in San Diego. Families were given boxes of food from the San Diego Food Bank, plus every child was able to get out of their car to receive at least three wrapped gifts. There were also free gift cards available.“My little one smiled. He was so happy,” said Elsa Sarabia, a mom of five who drove through.Sarabia said she works as a chef, and both she and her husband have lost hours at work this year. This event meant more gifts for her children that she might not have otherwise been able to afford.“We don’t have a lot of money to buy stuff for the kids and we appreciate everything you do for us,” she said, thanking the organizers.This is the fourth time this event was held. It’s hosted by Shane Harris and the People’s Alliance for Justice, with support from Supervisor Kristin Gaspar and the San Diego Lifeguards.The event had to adapt this year to be safe due to coronavirus, but Harris said they knew they had to make those changes to continue to fill this need. The breakfast would usually take place in a big hall, but organizers designed a drive-through format for 2020.“Really just trying to make sure the needs of the community are met particularly at a time where COVID-19 has made it really difficult for a lot of families economically,” said Harris.One volunteer was dancing through the whole morning as she distributed food, saying she was glad to give up her Christmas morning if it meant helping those in her community who needed it this year."A lot of these people do appear to be in great need. (KGTV) -- Neighbors in Del Cerro say an intersection near their homes is a hot spot for accidents and speeding, with the latest incident occurring Monday night.The streets and intersection in question are Madra Avenue and Del Cerro Boulevard. Denisse Newell took cell phone video during the aftermath of Monday’s accident. Newell says she’s reached out to City of San Diego officials to ask that something be done to make drivers slow down.Another neighbor, Emily Broadwater, says she was involved in an accident at the intersection in 2018 after a man didn’t stop at the stop sign. Her minivan was totaled.Newell says her dog was also hit by a speeding car and survived the accident. Her husband has stopped walking their children to school after multiple close calls. Neighbors worry that the next time it’ll be a person. The women say they’d like the city to implement like speed bumps, a stoplight or roundabouts to get drivers to slow down.ABC 10News reached out to San Diego City Councilman Scott Sherman’s office, who represents the district. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--If you've ever seen a traditional Danza Azteca performance, you know it's much more than a show."We always explain to people that these are ceremonial prayers and that we're sharing them not to entertain people although that's part of it because people love seeing it but also to teach the history of the dancing and to teach there's something to learn from everybody," said Mario Aguilar, the Capitan General or leader of Danza Mexi'cayotl.The group is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, which makes it the longest running of it's kind in the country.Aguilar says the dancing is just a part of what they offer members."We use the name circle because we consider ourselves, everybody in the circle as family members, we have some people who've been dancing 40 years," he explained.The colorful and elaborate dances are really stories, telling of the ancient indigenous heritage that members are keeping alive.Aguilar says they're also trying to spread a message of unity."We're reminding people that we're all one people we dress differently we talk differently but we all come and go from the same place and that to me is the greatest gift of Azteca Dance." 1194

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Homeless people in San Diego woke up Tuesday morning to find San Diego Police officers going street by street, offering resources.  Police officers lined the streets of the East Village. They were going street by street approaching the homeless in their tents. At one point there were at least eight patrol cars on one block.  SDPD says their efforts are a part of their ongoing outreach to let the homeless know about the resources available to them in hopes of ending the cycle of homelessness.  Most of the homeless received warnings about their property blocking the street or other violations. A few were detained for previous violations. One person was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant. Two people were transported to county mental health. Officers were also letting people know about the new bathrooms installed by the city in hopes of stopping the spread of Hepatitis A.  965
