CARMEL VALLEY (KGTV) - Schools are urging parents to learn more about the hit Netflix show '13 Reasons Why' so they can have a conversation with their kids.The first season of the show came out in March of 2017, and immediately after searches on Google relating to suicide skyrocketed.Particularly, "how to commit suicide" up?26%, "suicide prevention" rose 23% and "suicide hotline number" was up 21% according to a research paper published in JAMA International Medicine and CNN.At Carmel Valley Middle School, they faced that very serious issue personally. Three 7th graders, Madison, Lauren and Ximena saw their friend, who moved to LA, posting her pain on social media. She was cutting."She was posting a lot of videos on social media holding up an exact-o-knife and talking about all this," Madison said."I found out first and texted both of them and said we have to do something about it," Ximena said it was on her Snapchat story.Madison said they were taught in P.E. that this kind of act is a plea for help. They went to their counselor, Karen Infantino who went the extra step, reaching out to a counselor at the friend's new school, ensuring she got the help she needed."And was able to reach out and make sure that she was in a good place but it’s also really important for me to make sure that any student that comes to me feels listened to and acknowledged," Infantino said.The sentiment of being heard could've changed the entire plot of '13 Reasons Why.'The main character of the dramatic series reveals the reasons she committed suicide. CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Two siblings, one brother and one sister, had their children at Cape Coral Hospital on the same day, within hours of one another.Kenia Pozo and her older brother Marcus had a daughter and a son on May 14th.Pozo and her brother's girlfriend Katery Lara, gave birth after two subsequent cesarean sections. Pozo was scheduled to have hers first and give birth to a girl, Michaela Rose, just before 8 a.m. Lara gave birth to a boy, Kaiser Alexis, just after 11 a.m. the same day.The two women say they grew especially close during their pregnancies. Initially, Lara was due on May 26th and Pozo was due May 27th. Both women initially thought that they would give birth at least a day apart from one another. Pozo and Lara, who both have the same doctor, discovered they were going to deliver on the same day after scheduling their surgeries. The women said they were happy to have gone through the experience together and they hope their children will share a special bond because of how they came into the world.  1093

Businesses may be reopening, but they're still struggling to pay their rent.About 40% of major retailers didn't pay their rent in May, according to numbers from data firm Datex Property Solutions.Some companies are warning they won't be able to pay rent for months. Starbucks for example is asking for landlords to adjust lease terms and rent for at least 12 months.It's an even worse situation for some small businesses.“I would think landlords ordinarily are not that sympathetic, right, because they can get somebody else to pay the bill,” said Jack Strauss, an economics expert and professor at the University of Denver. “In this case, a landlord is foolish to ignore the struggling small business.”Strauss says it will be difficult for landlords to find a new tenant quickly, so they have an incentive to delay or partially reduce rent.Businesses in malls are getting hit especially hard. The country's latest mall owner recently sued Gap over three months of unpaid rent.“Being sued kind of makes sense by the landlord to take a heavy hand, but at the same time, it doesn't make sense because they're going to have a lot of, they're potentially going to have a lot of empty spaces,” said Strauss.Punchbowl Social, a national restaurant and entertainment spot just closed one location in the Denver area and one in the Chicago area, acknowledging that landlords are trying to ensure the success of their business.But the CEO says, "landlords cannot expect to maintain status quo economic terms that were negotiated in pre-pandemic times."Strauss agrees with that. Chad Daybell was arrested Tuesday after investigators recovered what they believe are human remains on his property.A search warrant was executed at his home in Salem, Idaho Tuesday morning in connection to the search for two missing children — his 7-year-old stepson Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old stepdaughter Tylee Ryan.The remains have not been identified.Police took Daybell into custody about a mile from his home as numerous police officers and FBI agents served the search warrant. He was booked into the Fremont County Jail several hours later. Specific charges were not disclosed, but authorities did say they were felony charges and that he was being held with no bond.East Idaho News reports Daybell's car was stopped about a mile from his home and police took him into custody.According to a news release from the Rexburg Police Department, its officers, with the assistance of the FBI and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, served the search warrant around 7 a.m. Tuesday.FBI Public Affairs Specialist for the Salt Lake office, Sandra Barker, has confirmed that the FBI is assisting with the search warrant.She told CourtTV there are about 20 FBI personnel on scene helping, including agents and support staff.The warrant is sealed, meaning that the information is only available to law enforcement officers working on this case.Numerous roads around the home are closed and drivers are being re-routed.Chad and Lori Vallow Daybell were found living in Hawaii in January. Kaua'i Police and Rexburg Police served search warrants there on January 25.Lori Vallow Daybell was arrested on February 20, and has been in an Idaho jail ever since, despite several attempts to lower her bail.Chad Daybell married Lori Vallow not long after his wife, Tammy, died of reported natural causes.The Idaho Attorney General is investigating possible murder and conspiracy in her death.This is not the first time the Salem home has been searched by law enforcement officials. 1984
