SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Though some of Balboa Park and its museums have partially reopened, the San Diego Natural History Museum will remain closed until 2021."The Nat" is keeping its doors closed for the rest of the year, despite whether public health orders allow the museum to reopen with coronavirus-related restrictions. Officials said the decision to keep the museum closed "was not an easy or obvious decision."During the five-month closure, museum staff said they will focus on exhibition space projects and programs, including:A new "California Blooming" exhibit upon reopeningConstructing an ADA-compliant ramp on the museum's east entranceDeveloping a new museum cafe and retail storeConverting a row of staff offices on the fourth floor into a gallery for future exhibitsCompleting a master plan for gardens outside the buildingThe museum is also reimagining its Canyoneers program to virtual hikes and recommendations and developing more digital options for the community, and students and teachers."The museum we closed in March will not be the same museum we reopen," said Judy Gradwohl, president and CEO of The Nat."Our future will combine the best of our work before and during the pandemic in a hybrid model that connects people with the wonder of nature on-site, online, and out in nature."In the meantime, staff say they plan to stay engaged with the community.“I look forward to seeing how our creative and energetic staff will make the most of the next five months,” said Gradwohl. “To borrow an analogy from the monarch butterflies I’ve been rearing this summer, I look at this extended closure and our eventual reopening as emerging from a chrysalis, not a hibernation.”The museum has been able to keep about 100 of its full-time and part-time staff and doesn't expect any changes to those positions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Medical Examiner ruled the death of a teenager who jumped off a bridge in Carmel Valley was an accident. Ruben Ortiz, 18, was one of six people in a Nissan Altima on July 9 when the car crashed on SR-56.Two passengers got out of the car and ran away, officers said. Ortiz and 17-year-old Jesse Garcia jumped 80 feet off the bridge into Gonzales Creek, not realizing it was a dangerous drop, according to investigators. Garcia and Ortiz, who suffered multiple blunt force injuries, died at the scene. California Highway Patrol officers said Garcia had been driving the night of the crash. Investigators found an open beer can in the center console. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department is increasing staffing ahead of Santa Ana winds expected to swirl around the county to start the work week. On Sunday, 10News got a hands-on tour of Station 14 in North Park. It is one of five San Diego Fire stations with an engine, ladder truck, and now a fully staffed brush truck for the next two days. "Our brush rigs are always able to be covered," San Diego Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Kelly Zombro said. "We just have to un-staff a rig to move over to it. In this case, those rigs are actually covered right now, and they can all go."Because of the upcoming Santa Ana winds, the Department is staffing 25 additional crew members, specifically for wildfires. While engines and ladder trucks are most commonly used in day-to-day operations, the 0,000 brush truck is on a league of its own."It's imperative that we are able to make access quickly into areas where the engine cannot get into," Fire Engineer, Tim Swanson said. "And that's why we have these brush rigs."Unlike the concrete jungle in New York City, the City of San Diego has many different kinds of terrain. Because of that, in the academy, all firefighters are trained in all three truck types: engine, ladder, and brush.The brush truck has off-road tires, a 600-gallon tank, and specialized tools like backfire canisters, burn-over protection, and this triple hose backpack. The truck may even become a mobile home for the crew. That is why it has comfortable seats and carries household items. "If we're out on a strike team, we are gone for sometimes two weeks at a time with little to no ground support," Swanson said. "So, we need to be self-sufficient for two weeks."Even if fires do not erupt in our area, they are always ready to go."Sometimes, when [Northern California] is asking for help, we have to do it," Deputy Chief Zombro said. "And we just have to up our game down here to make sure we stay covered, and we've always done that."After two days, the department will re-assess to see if they need to continue the increased staffing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The state agency that protects California consumers by licensing and regulating the state’s construction industry received more than 30 complaints about a San Diego County-based business.A Team 10 investigation discovered some customers who said they signed a contract with American Pride Enterprises, paid thousands of dollars up front and were left with little or nothing. The Contractors State License Board revoked American Pride Enterprises' license for non-compliance with an arbitration award in July of 2018.An outdoor cover to block the sun was the final piece in what had been a total backyard transformation for the Zimmerman family.“We were just looking to put a patio cover over our east-facing patio,” said Jim Zimmerman.Zimmerman said in 2017 he hired American Pride Enterprises and its owner Stephen Hage to do the work.He said there were no red flags. The company was licensed, bonded and at the time there were no real complaints online.“We paid just under ,200,” Zimmerman said. “That was to cover materials, and he was supposed to come back in three weeks and complete the job. That was the last time we ever saw Stephen Hage.”Zimmerman told Team 10 Hage initially offered to pay the money back, but instead of getting a check Zimmerman got excuse after excuse about why the money hadn’t arrived.Eventually, Zimmerman said the evasion tactics were too much and he sued Hage in smalls claims court.Zimmerman says he got some of his money back.A Team 10 investigation discovered Zimmerman isn't alone.Team 10 was in court when several people who claim Hage swindled them reached an agreement with his bonding company, getting some of their money back.James Francois said he paid Hage more than ,000 for a patio.“He never showed up, never delivered any material, never did an hour of work,” Francois told 10News.Court documents show more than 20 names listed on the lawsuit filed by the bonding company, which seeks reimbursement from Hage.A spokesperson for AmTrust told us, “This is a claim filed under a contractor’s license bond issued to our principal, American Pride Enterprises, by Wesco. Due to the claims we have received exceeding the aggregate ,000 bond limit, we filed an interpleader (a way for a holder of property to initiate a suit between two or more claimants to the property) to pursue funds that would be distributed to the named consumers, assuming the principal does not resolve the claims that have been presented.”  Court documents show Hage filed for bankruptcy in July, and list his estimated liability around 0,000. In bankruptcy people trying to get money can’t access the assets until the bankruptcy is resolved.Team 10 tried to track down Hage, but no one answered the door at his listed address.The Contractors State License Board told Team 10 through a spokesperson:  2964
