SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Covid Clinic’s debut in San Diego County was a little rocky in April when it was shut down by Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer.Fast forward to today, the operation seems to be running smoothly in both La Mesa and Downtown San Diego.“Since we were one of the first to open in San Diego County, there were some things that were brought to our attention that the county wanted,” said Covid Clinic CEO, Matt Collins. “So once we met each of the items that they were requesting, we’ve been able to continue testing without any issues.”Wooten sent a letter to Covid Clinic stating that the first site at MiraCosta College in Cardiff needed to shut down because the proper credentials to operate were not provided to the county. Test results also were not immediately reported to the county.Collins said the clinic now reports results to the county every day.He said, on average, about 100 to 150 people are tested at the downtown location, while about 350 to 400 are tested in La Mesa. While many testing sites are now limiting COVID-19 tests to those who have symptoms or fall in the high-risk category, Collins said anyone could schedule an appointment online to be tested at Covid Clinic.Across the country, people have also reported significant delays in test results. Covid Clinic offers three different tests, and Collins said they guarantee quick results.“We understand how important it is to get a result quickly,” said Collins. The antibody and antigen tests come with rapid results in just 60 minutes for 0.The nasal swabs require lab testing, but results can still be provided within the same day, the next day, or two days, however, it is a bit pricier.“The price varies from 375 dollars for a guaranteed two-day turnaround to 425 dollars for same-day turnaround. We’re seeing a lot of demand for that test because people need to travel,” he explains.Collins said the clinic has partnered with a lab in Orange County to deliver results without delays.“We’re going to continue to strive to make testing accessible to San Diegans and always provide the most accurate tests,” he said.In addition to San Diego County, Covid Clinic has drive-thru testing sites in Westminster, Ventura, Norco, and Temecula. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As cities nationwide remove landmarks named after Confederate or racially-charged figures, an online petition is demanding San Diego do the same at Mount Hope Cemetery.A Change.org petition is asking Mayor Kevin Faulconer to remove a memorial to Confederate soldiers at Mount Hope Cemetery."Why does the City of San Diego expect black citizens, literal descendants of the very people the monument celebrates enslaving, oppressing, and terrorizing, to maintain such a horrific monument?" the petition says. The petition has nearly 900 or 1,000 requested signatures. The monument was erected in 1948 on a plot owned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, who supporters call such markers, testaments to history. Both Union and Confederate soldiers are buried in the cemetery.10news found the monument stone heavily damaged, with pieces scattered around the monument. Sources tell us the vandalism is a recent and ongoing issue. The monument isn't the only one in San Diego that has been subject to Change.org efforts. In 2017, the city removed a marker from Horton Plaza Park that commemorated the Jefferson Davis Highway, named for the Confederate leader. Fast forward to Wednesday, the city removed another marker from the park, this time commemorating Robert E. Lee Highway."Robert E. Lee Highway marker is gone. Many thanks to city Park & Rec staff and Stockdale Capital Partners for getting this done," Councilmember Mark Kersey tweeted. The difference between Horton Plaza Park and the cemetery plot: the plot is privately owned. In the past, city officials say their hands are tied."We support the removal from a private plot on City land and of a Confederate statue. Such statues are symbols of division that represent a horrendous past and glorify white supremacy. Such statues do not belong in a place of peace; they celebrate instead slavery (1620-1865) and the Jim Crow (1877-1964). The City should not have such symbols of intolerance and hatred on its property," said Francine Maxwell, President of the San Diego branch of the NAACP. 2078

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County officials closed a portion of La Jolla's coastline after a sewage spill Friday morning. The closure was issued for the area of Playa Del Norte in Windansea, near the 7000 block of Neptune Pl., after a sewage spilled before 9:30 a.m.Seven year La Jolla resident Marc Hirschfield said he was walking his dogs Saturday morning when he noticed the yellow warning signs dotting the beach and asked lifeguards what happened. He said they told him "there was a manhole cover that overflowed and raw sewage spilled into the ocean."Lifeguards told 10News it was a storm drain to blame in the same area. The spill has been contained, according to the County Department of Environmental Health, but there still may be impacts to water quality after 130 gallons of sewage entered the beach area.Warning signs have been placed in the area until samples of the ocean water indicate the water is safe for recreational use. It's not clear how long the area will remain closed. Some beach-goers ignored the signs, others, like surfer Cole Reiner just didn't see them. "Well I went out into the water. I mean contaminated doesn’t sound great, but I was out there and it says may cause illness so that’s not great," he said. Lifeguards couldn't say when the beach would reopen. As of 4:30p.m. the county said the beach was still closed."City life guards recommend 72 hours so for me it’ll probably be 48," HIrschfield said. 1435
