SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Florida family is relieved their 4-year-old daughter is still alive days after she swallowed water in the family's swimming pool while playing with a pool noodle.Elianna Grace has been fighting an infection ever since."Were you scared?" Lacey Grace asked her daughter. "No, she wasn’t scared she was super, super, super brave!"Even after Elianna was hooked up to IVs, oxygen tanks and a nebulizer this week, fighting an infection caused by the chemicals in her family pool."It was just a fun game. You know, when somebody would go by her or swim by her she would take the noodle and pretend like she wasn’t looking and she would shoot water at them," said Grace. "Then somebody wanted to do it back to her and didn’t realize that she was already on the other end of it."Water was blown down her throat. She threw it up right away and started acting normal."I wouldn’t have known about it if that one person didn’t write that story," said Grace, referring to the story about a 4-year-old Texas boy who died last year after dry drowning.Lacey recalled that article right after the incident. Two days later, Elianna developed a fever and by the next day her skin had turned purple. She knew something was wrong."I called my husband and I was crying and I said you know they said to get her to the nearest ER as quick as you can," said Grace.The water at some point seeped into Elianna's lungs and she was slowly dry drowning. Grace says because of this little boy's parents and their story, her daughter is alive."Being a mom is hard work, but I read every article I can as much as I can about being a parent just to be ready if something like this happens," Grace said.She encourages other parents to do the same. 1754

(KGTV) – Two teenaged girls had a frightening encounter with a stranger the parking lot Sportsplex USA Santee Thursday night.“He’s lucky I didn't walk out to minutes earlier,” Beau Branton said. His 14-year-old daughter was one of the girls involved.Branton plays in an adult softball league. Their game finished around 11 p.m. His daughter and her 13-year-old friend were there. After the game, they went to the pickup truck to get warm, while Branton finished up on the field.That’s when a man came over to the teens sitting in the car.“They saw him coming over and when they saw him coming over, they freaked out and locked it," Branton said. "He started yanking on the handle to get in.  When he realized he couldn't get in, he just stood there and didn't say anything, just a blank stare.”After a few seconds, the man seemed to give up and leave.“(My daughter) got out to come get me,” Branton said. “She came out from the truck, and towards the Sportsplex, that’s when (the stranger) came from behind a car and started chasing her.”His daughter got back into the truck in time to watch the man drive away.“He had a hoodie on, backpack,” he said, “cleanly shaven, he had two shaven notches on his eyebrows.  They watched him get into a red minivan and drive away.”San Diego Sheriff's Department said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early 30s, about 5-feet 9-inches tall, and weighing about 170 pounds. He reportedly has short brown hair.He also had two shaved lines through his right eyebrow.The suspect reportedly fled in an early 2000's model, dark, red minivan with faded paint and a sticker on the back window.Deputies are working with the girls to create a sketch of the suspect and are asking any other witnesses to come forward.Lt. Chris Steffen says they are not yet sure of the man's intentions and that he might not have known the girls were in the car. (KGTV and AP) — A former Camp Pendleton Marine was found guilty Wednesday of the murders of five women in Southern California more than two decades ago, including a San Diego woman in 1988.Orange County jurors convicted Andrew Urdiales of five counts of murder with enhancements for attacking a volunteer usher after a college piano concert and picking up four prostitutes, driving them to remote or deserted areas, having sex with them and killing them.The verdict raises to eight the number of women killed by the 53-year-old former Marine.Urdiales was previously convicted of killing three women in Illinois in 2002 and 2004. He was given a death sentence that was commuted to life without parole after Illinois barred the death penalty.He was extradited to California in 2011 to stand trial in the murders of five women in Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties between 1986 and 1995. SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a plane that may have crashed off the Southern California coastline on Sunday. Mike Eliason, a public information officer for Santa Barbara County Fire, says someone reported that they saw a single-engine aircraft descend rapidly shortly after taking off from Santa Barbara Airport. Eliason says the person did not see an impact. Officials with Santa Barbara County Fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol are searching the area near Goleta Beach with boats and helicopters. It wasn’t immediately known what type of plane it could be or how many people were on board. 654
