The most active volcano on Earth has captured our fascination again. Not to mention our fear and respect: 1,700 people had to flee their homes as lava broke the surface near their community Thursday and Friday. The activity appears to be continuing into the weekend, with strong earthquakes of up to a highly unusual preliminary magnitude of 6.9, more ground cracks opening, and new vents opening within residential areas.Kilauea volcano, on the Big Island of Hawaii, has been erupting continually along its East Rift Zone since 1983. Most of the time, the lava flows south toward the ocean, threatening nobody. But occasionally it goes in a different direction. This is what happened this time. And luckily, no one was hurt, authorities say. 748

The Miami Police Department says what began as disagreement about masks led to an assault on Sunday evening.According to a statement from the Miami Police Department, the incident began at Latin Cafe, a ventanita or coffee shop near Miami International Airport. Surveillance video shows five people milling about outside of the cafe. The Miami Police Department says a few patrons got into an argument about mask compliance. Video shows one customer, wearing a mask and a red shirt, gesturing toward cafe employees and appearing to speak in exaggerated tones toward another customer without a mask. The customer without a mask stepped toward the man in the red shirt, and then a struggle ensued. Additional security footage shows the man in the red shirt falling to the ground. That man's girlfriend saw the incident from her car and ran to help. Police say she was also hit during the scuffle.Miami Police Officer Kiara Delva told WSVN-TV in Miami that the fight left the man in the red shirt "disoriented."Police say they're searching for four people in connection with the incident. It's unclear how many of those people could face charges.Miami currently requires the use of masks in public to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. First-time offenders are issued warnings, while repeat offenders could face fines. 1325
The Justice Department is preventing Senate investigators from interviewing two top FBI officials who could provide first-hand testimony over the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, the latest sign that Special Counsel Robert Mueller could be investigating the circumstances around the firing, officials tell CNN.The previously undisclosed turf war comes as the Senate judiciary committee has not yet given assurances to the special counsel's office that it could have unfettered access to the transcript of the interview it conducted last week with the President's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., saying that the full Senate must first authorize the release of the information to Mueller's team. 709
The Government Oversight and Audit Committee of the Louisville Metro Council passed an order to investigate Mayor Greg Fischer's handling of the deaths of Breonna Taylor and David McAtee as well as his handling on protesters. The committee passed the order on Tuesday. In a press release, the committee said that the "action and inaction of Fischer's administration" prompted them to open an investigation."Metro Council and the public at large seek to better understand these events and surrounding circumstances by examining the role of, decisions made by, and orders given by any officers of the consolidated local government and any board or commission," the city said in the statement. "This includes but not limited to Mayor Greg Fischer, his leadership team, and his administration (the “Administration”) and LMPD by and through its agents. Metro Council and the citizens of Louisville demand a transparent, public process whereby the truth of these events comes to light and critical missing information is revealed to help resolve the aforementioned issues and omissions."Back on March 13, Taylor was shot eight times inside her home by police who were serving a no-knock warrant. McAtee was shot back in June after police and the Kentucky National Guard were trying to disperse protesters, according to CNN.See the full press release below: Or-004-20 v.1 071420 Order Investigating Administration Actions-Inaction by Sarah Dewberry on Scribd 1459
