SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Holiday light displays are one of the best aspects of the holiday season.Thousands upon thousands of lights in some cases dress up homes and businesses throughout San Diego County, bringing out families and friends to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.Throughout the county, San Diegans have numerous displays to drive to and admire. Some are snuggled in cul-de-sacs around town, others, larger events that continue the fun throughout the end of the year.Here's where you can catch San Diego's best light displays this season:(Links for display locations can be found by clicking the location in the map above.)Displays"Carlsbad Christmas House" can be found on Romeria Street in Carlsbad. Lights are on display from Dec. 2 to Dec. 31, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (closed rain days.) "Christmas on Knob Hill" is located at Knob Hill Road in San Marcos. Lights are displayed from Nov. 22 to Dec. 30, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Santa will make an appearance from Dec. 14 to Dec. 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. "Candy Cane Lane" covers Hickory Ct., Hickory St., Butterwood Ct., and Rockrose Ct. in Poway. "Christmas Card Lane" is located on Oviedo St. off Black Mountain Rd. in Rancho Penasquitos. "Belardo Lights" runs on Belardo Dr. through Dec. 27. Lights will be on from about 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly. "Starlight Circle/Sunburst Santee" covers Tomel Ct. off Magnolia Ave. in Santee. Residents have their own schedule for how long lights will be up, but they’ll generally be on from about 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. "The Forward House" in Banker’s Hill is located at Ivy St. and 1st Ave. The house will be lit generally from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Events"December Nights" will hit Balboa Park on Dec. 7 and 8. The park will be decked out in lights as well as holiday music, vendors, and food. "Jungle Bells" welcomes the holidays to San Diego Zoo from Dec. 14 - Jan. 6. The park will run daily light shows and entertainment with zoo staff and animals. "San Diego Bay Parade of Lights" brings out boats dressed in hundreds of lights to the bay, as they parade on the water Dec. 9 and 16. "Garden of Lights" at San Diego Botanic Gardens showers the garden in more than 125,000 lights, and hosts marshmallow roasting, a musical light show, and more. "Christmas Celebration" at SeaWorld San Diego runs from Nov. 17 to Jan. 6, bringing a 40-foot Christmas tree, Santa’s village, and delicious foods to the theme park. 2429

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Health officials said Wednesday that they are working with the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District to notify people possibly exposed to tuberculosis. Officials said the possible exposures happened at the college’s El Cajon and Rancho San Diego campuses between January 30 and April 24, according to County News Service.The college will be providing no-cost screenings to people who are identified as possibly having been exposed to TB.“Symptoms of active TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “But most people who are exposed do not develop the disease and TB can be treated and cured with medication.”The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency says it’s important for individuals with symptoms of TB, or who are immune-compromised to see their medical provider to rule out TB. 940

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Every prom is memorable, but only one is truly an "Unforgettable Prom." Yet just like so many momentous occasions this year, the Unforgettable Prom had to be canceled. But its legacy lives on, touching lives 20 years later."Scott was an amazing young man. Sorry. He was very charismatic," says Carmen Delgadillo.Twenty years and Carmen Delgadillo still gets choked up talking about her son Scott. At 13, Scott Delgadillo was diagnosed with leukemia. He was determined to beat cancer because he was driven to one day attend Notre Dame, he was a fighter, and was surrounded by loyal friends who would always visit him in the hospital."Scott had a lot of friends that would come to visit, and some of the other kids did not. So, he would ask his friends, 'Hey, can you stop by and see my friend?' That's how Scott was; he brought people together," adds Carmen.Those same friends planned to take Scott to the Winter Formal that year. Unfortunately, Scott's sickness got worse, and he passed away shortly after. But his legacy was just beginning."Shortly after his passing, a nurse at Rady Children's Hospital, a nurse that took care of him, stopped me and asked if we would be interested in putting together a prom for the teenagers at Rady's Hospital," says Carmen.So, Carmen and Scott's friends got together and created the Friends of Scott Foundation. Teenagers with cancer and other illnesses, many too sick to attend their own proms, get the red-carpet treatment here at the Unforgettable Prom. Everything from the limos to the boys' tuxes, to the girls' gowns, and everything in between is taken care of for them."This is a way that they just forget about everything, and it's a free night from cancer. And we're very, very proud of this event," adds Carmen.But like most proms this year, the Unforgettable Prom had to be canceled. Instead, Carmen and the foundation are working to gather donations to create care packages for those teenagers suffering from illnesses and their families."We are providing gift cards, whether it be groceries or gas to help some of these families out during the pandemic," says a smiling Carmen.Now, 20 years later, Carmen Delgadillo and her volunteers have impacted and touched thousands of lives in the memory of her son Scott."I'd like to say how many lives have touched me," says Carmen. "Some of these kids are now parents. I've got to meet their children. They've gone on with their lives, some of these kids have gone on to college. So, all those lives that have been part of Scott and his legacy." 2566

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Five more people have died from influenza in San Diego and weekly cases hit a season high this past week.County health officials said one of the flu deaths included a 40-year-old man from North County who had underlying medical conditions with no known flu vaccination record. The other deaths ranged from 47 to 90 years of age and all also had underlying medical conditions.This season, there have been a total of 54 influenza-related deaths in the county. People should continue getting vaccinated and taking other preventative measures, especially those at higher risk of developing complications," said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer, said. The number is up 21 percent of the week before, when 536 cases were recorded.Due to the increased flu activity, an order for unvaccinated medical personnel to to wear masks while in patient care areas has been extended until April 30.Flu shots are available at doctors' offices, retail pharmacies, community clinics and the county's public health centers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Four Democrats running to be governor of California faced off in a debate in San Diego Thursday night.The San Diego County Democratic Party hosted the debate between John Chaing, Delaine Eastin, Gavin Newsom and Antonio Villaraigosa.The Democratic Convention is set to begin Friday. The candidates were asked a wide range of questions from fixing the tax system to housing and small business.A topic that led the charge was the topic of gun control. All candidates said they support stricter gun laws.A poll released two weeks ago shows Newsom leading Villaraigosa 23 to 21 percent.
