LA POSTA RESERVATION, Calif. (KGTV) - A local Native American tribe is considering its legal options after one of their sacred sites was vandalized. At least 5 rocks in an area used by the La Posta Band of Mission Indians’ ancestors were spray painted over the weekend.“A lot people don’t understand they’re on the reservation here,” said Victor Estrada, Vice Chairmen of the La Posta Band of Mission Indians. La Posta Reservation is about 50 miles east of San Diego and was blanketed by snow last week prompting visitors to make the trek out to the high elevation to see it. “You can come out here and play in our snow, but don’t destroy our stuff,” said Estrada, “don’t spray paint your name and your family and say 'hey you were here.' We understand you were here, we know you were here.” Estrada says they found out who may have vandalized it through social media and that the tribe may prosecute, but would be open to the offenders cleaning it up themselves. Those claiming responsibility wrote a statement to 10News saying in part: “We are truly sorry as we were not aware that we were on sacred or tribal lands. (KGTV) — A woman was hit and killed by a trolley car in Lemon Grove Wednesday.The woman was hit by a San Diego MTS trolley at about 3:45 p.m. near the Lemon Grove Avenue and Massachusetts Ave. stop, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies say the woman was dragged by the trolley and later died.The cause of the deadly crash was under investigation.The MTS Orange Line was closed between the Encanto/62nd and Spring Street Stations due to the police investigation. Buses will be used between the two stations to bridge travelers to their next stop during the closure, MTS tweeted. MTS says the eastbound Orange Line will not depart from the Courthouse Station at 5 p.m., and instead will start from 12th and Imperial at 5:11 p.m. Riders waiting to catch that train should instead take the Blue Line to 12th and Imperial to transfer to the Orange Line to continue eastbound.No further information was immediately available. 968

(KGTV) - Tired firefighters, including one featured in a viral photo, returned home to Lakeside Tuesday after almost two weeks of battling the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County.James Paterson was captured in a photograph shared on Twitter with his head resting on his chest in apparent exhaustion.Paterson’s strike team was on day 10 of its deployment to the Sierra Nevada foothills.  "That was one of those really long shifts," he said.  "It was 5 a.m., and the sun had come up. My engineer had just caught me, having a hard time keeping my eyes open.""I think it’s a glimpse into what we do," said Shawn McKenna, who took the picture "It’s beyond the red trucks, lights, and sirens. (KGTV) – After being closed by the city in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the La Mesa attraction known as the “secret stairs” was reopened to the public.The city announced Wednesday that the popular destination near Windsor Drive is open with specific social distancing guidelines in place.The stairs, widely used as a community trail or exercise route, was shut down on March 24 due to visitors not following social distancing rules.Despite the closure, some residents told the city that warning signs noting guidelines were being ignored.With the reopening, city officials are asking visitors to know the following before going to the stairs:WEAR A MASK: Everyone should wear a mask covering their face at all times while in this public space.MAINTAIN DISTANCE: Keep physical distance of 6 feet between individuals from different households and prevent crowding.PLAN AHEAD: Visit at times or days that are less crowded.KNOW WHEN TO STAY HOME: Those with underlying medical conditions should avoid public spaces when others are present. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - University of California San Diego Police are investigating threats of violence to the campus during finals week. The generalized, non-specific threats were written on three women’s bathroom doors in Geisel Library, officials said. Police were notified about the threats Sunday night and Monday afternoon, according to University Police Chief David S. Rose. “Our University takes every threat of violence extremely seriously and the UC San Diego Police Department has responded and is investigating,” Rose said. Officers interviewed potential witnesses and are reviewing video to identity the person or persons responsible for the postings. UC San Diego officials consulted with police, the Behavioral Threat Team, local and federal law enforcement, and a threat assessment expert before deciding to continue with its regular finals week schedule, Rose said.
