SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a door-to-door solicitor who has prompted a string of complaints about threatening outbursts and who was seen on video taking swings at a woman in Pacific Beach.Corey Lamont Terry, 45, is wanted on felony charges of making criminal threats and attempted burglary, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. A warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month, according to the Sheriff’s Department website.Police have been investigating Terry since at least early November, after “several” people complained about Terry’s aggressive language while soliciting money door-to-door, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.Takeuchi urged the public to call their local police agency if they spot Terry, who is about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 220 pounds. He said residents should not approach him based on his past behavior.Terry has canvassed neighborhoods in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach in recent weeks, claiming he is raising money for charity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police officers responded to a call from a Pacific Beach woman who recorded a confrontation with a solicitor claiming to be a charity worker.Sarah Jarzabek said she began recording the incident at around 3 p.m. Saturday when the man became increasingly aggressive toward her and her neighbor."Scared to death, honestly," Jarzabek told 10News, after reflecting on the incident. Jarzabek and her friend Emily Herton were watching a movie at her home when a stranger knocked on her door. "He said that he came from Ohio, from Cleveland," Herton told 10News. "He said he was trying to raise money for some missionary work for children."The women admit they thought it was a joke but as the man continued with his story claiming to be a missionary and spreading God's love, they felt something did not seem right."He had four different I.D.s behind his one I.D.," Jarzabek said. When she told him that they did not have cash to give, she said the man angrily left her front door and marched toward her neighbor's home. That is when she started to record him on her phone. "I was going to warn [the neighbor], and then the guy, he flips a switch," Jarzabek said. The 12-second video shows the man lunging toward Jarzabek trying to cover the camera then take multiple swings. "He chases me across the street, and screaming that he's going to kill me," Jarzabek said. Jarzabek said she and Herton barricaded themselves inside her home and called 911. San Diego Police told 10News that the man was gone by the time an officer responded. An SDPD spokesperson says that because the man did not actually touch Jarzabek, officers did not file an official report. After the incident, Jarzabek posted the video on Facebook and recruited the help of their local Guardian Angels. Within hours, many people replied on the post about their recent encounters with the same man.The people commenting on the post said he was some sort of charity worker describing himself as a Christian missionary, domestic abuse organization volunteer, or reformed criminal organization volunteer. Commenters also described the man becoming confrontational when they refused to give him money. Other commenters claim to have seen him scoping out neighborhoods in Ocean Beach and other San Diego communities. Jarzabek hopes her post raises awareness about dealing with questionable door-to-door solicitors."It takes a lot to make me feel endangered, and this guy literally shook me," said Jarzabek.San Diego Police said they would like to speak with the man in the video. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego officials are offering a new location to help temporarily shelter migrants seeking asylum.The city says it has identified a new property to use as a shelter since its current temporary shelter doesn't have the occupancy for long-term sheltering, in a letter to California's Office of Emergency Services."The county recently vacated the Camp Barrett youth correctional facility in Alpine. The facility is already classified for residential occupancy and therefore does not require significant alteration to be used as a shelter," Robert Vacchi, deputy chief operating officer of San Diego's Neighborhood Services, wrote.RELATED: Exclusive look inside San Diego shelter for migrant asylum seekersCamp Barrett was closed in October following years of steadily decreasing populations at the county's in-custody facilities, according to the county. The remaining population was relocated to a Urban Camp facility in Kearny Mesa. Vacchi writes the property could be leased to the state or third-party on a temporary basis to use as a shelter for asylum-seeking migrants.The Alliance Healthcare Foundation has agreed to fund the operation of a facility, according to Vacchi, and the city has been in talks with the agency to secure shelter operations.The city is facing a Feb. 4 deadline to vacate the current shelter being used for migrant asylum seekers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego lawmakers responded Friday to President Donald Trump’s comments about border wall construction and funding as the government shutdown stretched into day 13. Trump declared he could keep parts of the government closed for "months or even years" as he and Democratic leaders failed in a second closed-door meeting to resolve his demand for billions of dollars for a border wall with Mexico. “We did a lot of wall in San Diego,” Trump said at a White House news conference. “They wanted it very badly.” Trump cited concerns about the U.S.-Mexico border, including entry by terrorists, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. San Diego County’s congressional representatives emailed comments to 10News regarding the president’s statements. “San Diegans view our proximity to Mexico as an opportunity, not a threat, and we recently celebrated building a bridge between our two countries – not a wall – a bridge with adequate customs staffing so people can travel back and forth easily, and legally,” wrote Rep. Scott Peters. “San Diegans want smart, innovative border security – not the wasteful wall that President Trump wants to build as a monument to himself.” Congressman Duncan Hunter, San Diego County’s lone Republican representative, issued a statement through his public information officer. “Congressman Hunter believes President Trump needs to stand strong on the issue of border security and his description of it as a ‘national emergency’ means he has a firm grasp of its importance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Metropolitan Transit System officials say ridership spiked in the first quarter of the 2020 fiscal year by more than a million trips compared to the same time last year.From July through September of 2019, 22,258,345 trips were taken on an MTS trolley or bus. In 2018, MTS saw 21,313,801 trips. It's a 4.4% rise from one year to the next."It's encouraging," says MTS Chair Nathan Fletcher.MTS officials say a heavy focus on investment over the past few years is starting to pay off. They recently completed a million plan to streamline services and add frequency to many bus routes. They also added the South Bay Rapid route from Otay Mesa to Downtown and expanded the Rapid Superloop service in the University City area."As we add those services where folks want them, as we squeeze every dime we can get out of our existing budget, as we make a full commitment to engage the community in what they want, people will use it," says Fletcher.The surge in riders helps MTS buck a nationwide trend where public transportation is on the decline.Even in San Diego, year-to-year numbers had been dropping for four straight years, since hitting a record high in 2015 (see chart above).Fletcher says it's a positive step as the city tries to meet strict climate goals that require a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.Recently, SANDAG put out a plan to increase transit ridership to 10%. That sparked a debate over how much money should go towards transit vs. road construction.Fletcher says any money spent on transit also benefits drivers."Every person who chooses transit is one less car driving," he says. "The individual who says, 'I'm always gonna drive,' should support transit because that means less congestion. Less congestion means less toxic pollution and less greenhouse gas emissions.
