SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The United States Attorney’s Office is asking anyone who might have gotten their immigration paperwork “lost” in the mail to please give them a call.Federal prosecutors have contacted 181 potential victims whose documents may have actually been intentionally destroyed by a former United States Postal Service employee in Salt Lake City.Special agents with the USPS identified the suspect as 77-year-old Diana Molyneux from West Jordan.Many of the victims were legal immigrants residing in Utah and Nevada who were waiting for their Permanent Resident Card, commonly referred to as a Green Card.“I pray for her. I really do,” said Eloisa Mendoza, the proprietor of Elko Hispanic Services. “I personally think she knew what was in those envelopes.”Mendoza told KSTU she worked with approximately 60 victims in Elko, Nevada. Whenever a client’s mail had a tracking number, Mendoza said it seemed like the documents always got stuck in Salt Lake City.“It’s really difficult for me to understand why (the suspect) would do something like that,” Mendoza said. “Issues. Personal issues… I do not know her, so I really cannot say if she’s racist or not. To me, I think her issue was just ‘aliens.’”According to Mendoza, some of the victims lost their jobs due to the inability to provide proof of legal residency in the United States. Others had to pay more than ,000 in fees.Mendoza said although most of the victims were Hispanic, some were from Russia and the Philippines.“The emotional suffering they went through is very harsh,” Mendoza said. “I saw the emotion, the stress, the nightmare that these people went through. According to federal documents, she has been unemployed since losing her job with USPS.Assistant Federal Defender Wendy Lewis, now the sixth defense attorney to represent Molyneux, did not immediately return KSTU’s calls.According to a handwritten letter filed earlier this year, Molyneux asked for and was granted a new attorney, accusing Assistant Federal Defender Carlos A. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 44-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car and seriously injured in Mission Valley Saturday, police said.The unidentified man was walking in a crosswalk at about 5 a.m. on 2300 Camino Del Rio North when a 57-year-old driver of a Ford Explorer traveling northbound on Qualcomm Way turned eastbound and the vehicle hit the pedestrian.The man walking in the crosswalk suffered a possible skull fracture, several facial fractures and internal injuries. His injuries are considered to be life-threatening, police said. 538

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old motorcyclist who led police on a pursuit through the Pacific Beach area of San Diego was hospitalized this morning with a life-threatening injury after crashing into another vehicle.The motorcyclist failed to yield to officers near the intersection of Garnet Avenue and Jewell Street about 11:10 p.m. Friday, and led officers southbound on Jewell Street, then westbound on Grand Avenue, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.At the intersection of Grand Avenue and Fanuel Street, the motorcyclist split lanes between stopped vehicles and entered the intersection on a red light and broadsided a 2019 Toyota Prius going southbound on Fanuel Street, Heims said.The rider sustained a life-threatening brain bleed that required immediate surgery. The 62-year-old driver of the Prius and his passengers were not hurt, Heims said.The name of the suspect was not disclosed. 937

SAN DIEGO — Democratic Congressman Mike Levin has opened a commanding 20-point lead over Republican challenger Brian Maryott in coastal North County's 49th district, according to a new scientific poll.The ABC-10News Union-Tribune poll shows Levin leading Maryott 56 percent to 36 percent, with the remainder undecided. It's an increase over the 49 percent to 37 percent lead Levin had over Maryott in a prior poll taken in mid-September. The district stretches from Del Mar into parts of southern Orange County."It's all over but the shouting," said political analyst John Dadian, who said the district has become increasingly democratic over the last 15 years. "It was getting bluer gradually, and now, the last election cycle and I believe this one, we're going to see the fruit come to bear."Levin won the 49th District seat in 2018 after Republican Darrell Issa decided not to seek re-election after nearly two decades. Issa is now running for Congress in east county's 50th District, which leans Republican. "We've seen a lot of the communities that have shifted to more in the democratic party since 2016 are these more suburban, well-educated communities like many of the communities in California's 49th," said Stephen Goggin, a lecturer in the political science department at San Diego State University. The poll of 514 likely voters shows Levin getting the support of 68 percent of independents, with Maryott, a San Juan Capistrano councilman, getting just 15 percent of them. Both are getting the bulk of their backing from their own parties. In an interview Tuesday, Levin said he was not taking anything for granted, and that the only poll that matters is the one on election day. "This is the home stretch of an election, all hands on deck, leave no stone unturned. That's the only way I know and that's what we're going to do over the next three weeks," Levin said. Maryott's campaign released a statement saying the race is much closer than what this poll shows. "We see it firsthand, on a daily basis: as more voters uncover Mike Levin’s extreme record, support for Brian Maryott increases significantly. We put our trust in the voters, not polls," the statement said. The SurveyUSA poll reports that 13 percent of respondents already voted, and 63 percent are 100 percent they will.
