The COVID-19 pandemic has given a new perspective to many people across the world. For some women, it's made them consider whether the career they've chosen is the right one.A new survey by AllBright Collective, a membership-based club created by women that aims to provide inspiration, career coaching, networking and more for women around the world, shows many women are ready for a change."And so what we wanted to do was, rather than just guess what people were thinking, we wanted to do this global survey to really try and understand how women were thinking about their careers when we emerge," said Anna Jones, the CEO of AllBright Collective. "And we were actually very pleasantly surprised."Jones says AllBright surveyed 800 members during the pandemic, and 61% of them said they were going to be pivoting in their career."Now, that may mean pivoting to a different industry or different job, or it may be pivoting within the organization they're working in. But we were very pleasantly surprised that it was quite positive and women were very keen to kind of grab this time as an opportunity and make their ambitions a reality," Jones said.The survey also showed 25% of women were already in the process of changing their careers."I think we've all gotten used to working in a different way," Jones said. "We're all sitting on Zoom and connecting digitally in a way that we could never have imagined. I think for many women who wanted to work more flexibly, they're proving that they can."Elizabeth Middleton, a former teacher and mom of four, isn't surprised by the survey's results. She, too, is in the middle of a career change, starting her own business, Forward Function Health."It's been a major life shift," Middleton said. "I knew — and it wasn't just because of this pandemic, fortunately — before the pandemic, I was making this shift. But the pandemic just confirmed that it's the best for my family and self, and I think the pandemic has woken everybody up. It woke me up."Middleton is nearly finished with her courses relating to nutrition and wellness counseling and is thrilled to find a career that fills her soul."We launch fully in 2021. However, I've had already quite a few people on board with needs with this coronavirus," Middleton said. "I'm looking forward to helping people.""I also think that maybe it's just that we've had a bit of time," Jones said. "Admittedly, people have been juggling a lot. The caravan of Central American migrants going through Mexico to the US border isn't ending. Instead, its participants will disperse into smaller groups after reaching Mexico City.While some will stay in Mexico to try to get refugee status there, others will continue north to the US border.Organizers of the caravan estimate that some 200 or so people will proceed all the way to the US border in the coming days, although the number could be higher. The Environmental Protection Agency has handed documents to Congress that show new travel expenses from agency administrator Scott Pruitt, totaling some ,000 in hotel stays and air travel, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.The documents, which were requested by House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and obtained by the Post, reportedly show that Pruitt traveled on government business dozens of time on first-class and domestic flights from August 2017 through February 2018.The reported expenses include a four-day, ,631 trip to Morocco in December, a series of first-class flights following Hurriciane Harvey totaling ,330, and a two-day domestic trip for media interviews and a visit to Florida that amounted to ,767. Pruitt's travel expenses listed in the records reportedly do not include the costs of his security team or aides who travel with him.The EPA justified the travel spending as necessary to ensure Pruitt's security."EPA's Protective Service Detail identified specific ongoing threats associated with Administrator Pruitt's travel and shifted his class based on certain security protocols that require him to be near the front of the plane," said Jahan Wilcox, a spokesperson for the agency.Previously, CNN reported that from June through August 2017, the EPA justified several expensive charter flights for Pruitt -- including a ,000 bill for a business trip around his home state.In late August, the EPA inspector general announced it would investigate Pruitt's travel practices. The Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill was evacuated after an alarm sounded. But it was given an all-clear a short time later.There are no reports yet on why and whether it was related to the string of explosive devices being received by politicians and media throughout the nation this week.The Hill reports the alarm went off and people were urged to calmly evacuate. Nearby Independence Avenue was shut down as authorities investigated.The building was built in Washington D.C. in 1908, according to the Architect of the Capitol website. In 1962, the building was named for former Speaker of the House Joseph Gurney Cannon. The FBI issued a warning on Wednesday alerting Americans to scammers using the coronavirus to solicit donations for fraudulent charities.Federal law enforcement officials say they have received reports that scammers are using the pandemic to steal money, personal information or both.The FBI says that often, the fraudsters will use the name of a real charity to conduct their scam.
