SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Right on the sanctuary walls of Christ Temple Apostolic Church in El Cajon, you will find a banner honoring our military and service. And service is a big part of the job for Bishop Donnie McGriff. “It’s not a job it’s not a profession. It’s a ministry. And that’s what I do. I love it,” says Bishop McGriff.And serve the Bishop has for nearly 60 years, starting right out of high school in the Navy. He served his community as a UPS driver. And for over 30 years, he has served in what he calls his ultimate role as the leader of his church. What was his calling?“I think I found out at an early age that my purpose or destiny was to serve,” says Bishop McGriff with a smile.The Bishop serves in so many ways with his congregation. They collect food for the less fortunate. He even founded a Christian based University focusing on Theology and Entrepreneurship. But the military has always been very close to Bishop McGriff’s heart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego communities are known for their connections, especially local beach communities. They are surrounded with endless, restaurants, coffee shops and bars, and are a true hub for industry workers, who are also in a fragile time right now. Sandbox Pizza in Pacific Beach is an example of a restaurant stuck in limbo while helping prevent the spread of COVID-19. This past weekend, they held an event offering , 14-inch pizzas to all customers. "It's trying times for everyone so we figured it was something fun and the least we could do to try and help everyone out, from families that are out of work, to industry employees, to our first responders," Yankle added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans across the county witnessing a row of fluttering lights in the night sky were left pondering possibilities, including the existence of aliens and, well, Santa.SpaceX launched 60 new Starlink satellites into orbit Monday night. The Starlink satellites are part of Elon Musk's mission to create a space-based broadband internet system. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police made six DUI arrests during a downtown checkpoint Saturday night. The checkpoint was conducted on the 1400 block of G Street between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. In total, 1,765 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 526 were screened. Six drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, two drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license. Two citations were also issued for unspecified reasons at the checkpoint. “The San Diego Police Department will be conducting another DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint or DUI saturation patrol on March 15, 2020, in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways,” police said in a news release. 792

Shutoffs forced closures in seven districts including Alpine, Dehesa, Lakeside, Poway, and Cajon Valley.In Mira Mesa, winds toppled a tent that one restaurant had set up for outdoor dining. The owner of Golden Island Dim Sum and Asian Cuisine was left cleaning up the mangled mess Thursday morning in hopes of welcoming customers back later that day.In Julian, employees at the Villa Chardonnay Horses with Wings sent out a plea for help after their power was shut off.They have about 350 animals on their property including horses and dogs. Without a generator, they say they can’t give their animals any water.“We need electricity to pump the wells,” said Cindy Montgomery. “I've got a generator in the back of this car right now but it's a small one that will suffice for now, but we need an industrial size generator.”Montgomery says they have a solar-powered unit as a backup but it isn’t working.“There are no generators anywhere,” said colleague Billie Feldman. “We need an industrial size generator. Any help that we can get please let us know please contact us as soon as possible.”SDG&E says these are some of the strongest winds they’ve seen since they began installing their network of weather stations nearly a decade ago.
