SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man in the center of a viral video depicting a police arrest appeared in San Diego County Superior Court Tuesday. But he was there for another case, dating back to 2017.20-year-old Trenelle Cannon spoke at one of his many court appearances scheduled for this week. This one was regarding a robbery from 2017, where prosecutors said Cannon snatched a ,000 gold chain off a person's neck."The defendant was seen running to a vehicle, and that vehicle took off. There was a police hot stop on it. The defendant ran from the passenger and left the necklace inside," Deputy District Attorney, George Modlin said. But Cannon made headlines because of a controversial video, released Wednesday. The 12-second video was recorded from the back of a sedan that Cannon was riding with four others. Police said despite a demand to stop, the driver sped off onto Interstate 5. Near the freeway exit, police conducted a traffic stop. That's where the video begins. Cannon's girlfriend Shakira Smith, who took the video, said the man on the other end of the officers' punches, is Cannon. But San Diego Police said the 12-second video does not show the whole story, of how the 20-year-old had multiple outstanding warrants. According to San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, officers were surveilling Cannon before the incident. When he took off, Chief Nislet said officers chased him. When they got close, he noted Cannon resisted, which resulted in the necessary force, which he called "physical strikes and distraction strikes.""Cannon refused to cooperate and struggled to keep his hands in front of his body." Chief Nisleit said. Cannon's loved ones said that was police brutality."He is quickly pulled out of the vehicle by his shirt, head first, throwing him down to the ground aggressively," girlfriend Shakira Smith said. In his short adult life, Cannon has been the defendant for at least three other criminal cases: involving a stolen cell phone, a gold chain, firearms possession, and identity theft. While he awaits the arraignments for his new charges, he requested a change in his living situation."I just wanted to request that I be taken out of the psych ward or whatever," Cannon said. "But they put me in like, a psych ward facility on the 6th floor, and I would request that I go to mainline. I've seen the psychiatrist and she said there is nothing wrong with me at all, and she doesn't understand why I'm up there."Cannon's arraignment for the charges from the video will be tomorrow at 1:30 pm. 2534

SAN DIEGO, California — Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays.The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Road in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.Voters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told KGTV television station.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling KGTV they wanted their votes to count. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The family of Crystal Odom filled a San Diego courtroom Monday morning to hear a judge sentence the man convicted of killing Odom in a drive-by shooting in 1995. The judge sentenced Aswad Walker to 15 years to life for Odom's murder, plus three years for gang ties. He was convicted of second-degree murder back in February for Odom's death. Two previous trials had ended in hung juries. Odom's parents spoke before the sentencing. Her mother called Walker a coward and told him he would get what he deserved in prison. When Odom's father, James Odom, spoke, the family became very emotional, tears and sobs could be heard throughout the courtroom. Odom said a burden was lifted off his shoulders and that the sentencing marked an end to a long ordeal. At the time of the shooting, Crystal was with her then boyfriend and her 10-month-old daughter. Her daughter and boyfriend were unhurt. 959

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Proposed plans to restore the Mission Bay wetlands have been released by the group ReWild Mission Bay.Organizers say those plans would include moving a popular campsite in the area. The “Campland on the Bay” site would have to be relocated after 50 years.Neighbors who live near the area say the possible move is disappointing. “I was just telling my sister who is out of town this place is legendary. People come here all times of the year.”Managers at the campsite say they’ve extended their lease another five years but it could change depending on the project.Organizers of the expansion say the existing wetlands in Mission Bay may not be here in years to come.“The way it is now wetlands will be overtaken by sea level rise,” says Jim Peugh with the San Diego Audubon Society. “One has to plan ahead to make sure we have wetlands in the future.”Those plans would include giving tourists and locals easier access to the land. It will also give wildlife a larger nesting area.A statement from Campland on the Bay says in part:“We remain hopeful the City will continue to provide this amenity for local residents for another 50 years. The public does not have to choose between waterfront camping and wetlands – both uses can support one another as Campland has proven for the past half-century.”Organizers of the expansion says there is no exact timeline on when restoration will take place. This morning the City of San Diego opened the doors to its new business accelerator. "Connect All @ the Jacobs Center" provides entrepreneurs the tools they need to jump-start their business. Out of 60+ applicants, 13 were chosen for the inaugural cohort. Rosa Adam, the founder of Shukor Bella, started her natural hair and skin care line, inspired by her Ethiopian culture. But she needed help turning her dream into a reality. "There's so much more than just getting a product and putting it in a package and delivering it," says Adam. Kelvin Crosby came up with the "Smart Guider" to help the visually impaired, after losing his sight at 19 years old. "The dog is great, the cane is great, but I needed more," says Crosby. Connect All offers 4,300 square feet of co-working space, expert mentoring, and business management assistance — all free of charge. The program is a .5 million investment located in the heart of District 4. "We have been under-served," says City Council member Monica Montgomery. "If we don't have an economic component, then we don't have real success." The start-ups are committed to hiring low-to-moderate income San Diego residents. "It's nice to see that there is a program in place right now that's bringing back more of those mom and pop type of businesses," says Adam.
