DALIAN, July 26 (Xinhua) -- China has stopped the Dalian oil spill from reaching international waters, an official said Monday, admitting the clean-up work was "arduous."Dai Yulin, vice mayor of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, where oil pipelines exploded on July 16, said workers had contained the oil slick, stopping it from reaching the open sea."But the next step, which is clearing it up, is an arduous task," Dai told a press briefing."Some of the slick has been mopped up, but it's not easy to get rid of the rest," he said.The clean-up has involved 266 oil-skimming vessels and 8,150 fishing boats, Dai told reporters.Maritime agencies and oil companies have laid down more than 40,000 meters of oil barriers and 65 tonnes of oil absorbent mats, he said.Despite this, oil could still be seen on some beaches.An explosion hit an oil pipeline 0.9 meters in diameter at 6:20 p.m. on July 16 and triggered an adjacent smaller pipeline to explode near Dalian Xingang Port. BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner Saturday forecast a "mild" year-on-year rise in the consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, in June, resulting in an average CPI increase of around 2.6 percent in the first half.The projection by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) came one day after China released its latest economic data.The latest estimate was revised up from a 2.5-percent CPI rise the NDRC projected on May 18.China's CPI hit a 19-month high with a 3.1 percent year-on-year increase in May, surpassing the central government's targeted 3 percent annual inflation limit.During the January-May period, China's CPI rose 2.5 percent year on year.According to the NDRC's projection posted on its website, China's June CPI will dip slightly month on month, but still post a "mild year-on-year increase" due to the low comparison basis in the same month last year.The NDRC said positive factors for basic price stability were on the increase, citing sharp falls in international commodities prices, the government's macro control policies and a crack-down on farm produce speculation as well as a possible good grain harvest this summer.Sheng Laiyun, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, said Friday at a press conference that China had the basics for keeping prices under control this year."Although China faces quite a lot of pressure, the 3-percent target (for the whole year) is still possible with effort," he said.

TAIYUAN/HARBIN, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in an explosion at a coal mine in Linfen City of north China's Shanxi Province early Saturday has risen to 17 after another two bodies were found, local authorities said.The blast at Liugou Coal Mine of Yicheng County also left 104 persons injured, seven of them seriously, as of 11 p.m. Saturday, said Wang Jianshe, head of the county's People's Hospital, where all the injured were admitted.All the injured are in stable condition, Wang said.Basic search and rescue work is over, said a senior official of Yangquan Coal Industry (Group) Co. Ltd, which owns the mine. The official said that the blast took place in the dormitory area, where most of buildings were destroyed by the powerful explosion.A miner surnamed Zhang told Xinhua that families of many miners had come to live here because the children were currently on their summer vacation.But officials so far have not disclosed how many children and women had died during the accident.Zhang said he saw a couple died after huge stones fell on them in a dormitory room.Initial investigation showed that the blast was caused by explosives hidden illegally in the area, and a suspect has been detained by the police, the official said.A further Investigation into the cause of the blast is underway.Also on Saturday, 24 people were trapped in a flooded coal mine in northeast China's Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province.The city government said the accident at Hengxinyuan Mine took place at around 5 p.m. Saturday.
