A north Georgia high school teacher was arrested on Wednesday after he barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a shot from his handgun out of a window, police said.No one was injured in the incident at Dalton High School, except for a student who injured an ankle running through the school, police spokesman Bruce Frazier said.The shooting about 85 miles north of Atlanta heightened the already tense debate around guns in schools in the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Florida two weeks ago.The incident began about 11:30 a.m. when Randal Davidson, a 53-year-old social studies teacher, refused to let students into his classroom, Frazier said. When the principal put a key in the door in an attempt to enter, Davidson fired a shot from a handgun through an exterior window of the classroom, according to Frazier.The school immediately went into lockdown, and police quickly arrived and evacuated the immediate area around his classroom. After about 30 to 45 minutes, Davidson agreed to surrender to authorities and was taken into custody without further incident, Frazier said.Frazier said there was no evidence that Davidson was trying to fire at anyone."It certainly seemed like he didn't have any intention to harm anybody else," Frazier said.Davidson had been a teacher at Dalton since 2004 and was the play-by-play radio announcer for the high school's football team, Frazier said. A portion of Interstate 95, one of the main shipping thoroughfare on the east coast, was shut down for hours on on Friday after two tractor trailers overturned on a Maryland bridge.The accident occurred on the Tydings Memorial Bridge, which spans the Susquehanna River in northwest Maryland in between Baltimore and Philadelphia.In addition to the closure of the bridge the Maryland Transportation Authority also put a hold on all traffic because of Friday's high winds.MDTA also temporarily closed the Hatem Bridge — which carries traffic on US 40 and runs parallel to the Tydings — because of the wind. Northbound I-95 detoured at MD 155 (Ex89) and southbound I-95 traffic detoured at MD 222 (Ex93). A report from the Department of Veterans' Affairs inspector general found that the Washington DC VA Medical Center has for years "suffered a series of systemic and programmatic failures to consistently deliver timely and quality patient care," and heightening the potential for waste, fraud and abuse of government resources.The report released Wednesday found that the main health care facility for veterans in Washington lacked consistently clean areas for medical supplies, had staffing issues across multiple departments and that approximately million in supplies and equipment were purchased over a two-year period without "proper controls to ensure the purchases were necessary and cost-effective."According to the report, VA Secretary David Shulkin said he "does not recall senior leaders' bringing issues at the medical system related to supplies, instruments and equipment to his attention" while he was the undersecretary of health.The VA has been rocked by the IG report and Shulkin's belief that Trump administration political appointees, including a top aide, have been working toward his ouster.The report did not find any patient harm, but VA Inspector General Michael Missal said that was "largely due to the efforts of many dedicated health care providers that overcame service deficiencies to ensure patients received needed care."In the report detailing the troubling conditions at the VA hospital, Missal faults "failed leadership at multiple levels within VA that put patients and assets ... at unnecessary risk." The report follows an interim report released in April 2017, which Missal took the rare step of issuing because he had a "lack of confidence" in the Veterans Health Administration to properly deal with the issues, some of which they had known about for some time.The report made 40 recommendations, all of which the Department of Veterans Affairs said it accepts. A new poll finds broad support for special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into President Donald Trump and his campaign.Almost 7 in 10 (69%) of respondents in the ABC News/Washington Post poll said they support the special counsel's probe into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Sixty-four percent said they support looking into Trump's business dealings. Nearly 6 in 10 (58%) said they back the special counsel investigating allegations that Trump paid hush money to women who alleged affairs with him.The polling took place from April 8-11 -- meaning it took place largely in the aftermath of Monday's FBI raids of Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen's home, office and hotel room. FBI agents removed Cohen's computer, cell phone, business files and financial documents, and also sought communications related to the "Access Hollywood" tape that captured Trump making lewd remarks about women, sources familiar with the matter have told CNN.The poll results come amid mounting concerns about the future of the Mueller investigation. The President and his aides have discussed firing Mueller for months and believe they have the power to do so, according to a source. Trump is also considering ousting Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, sources have told CNN, a move that could limit the special counsel probe.The poll also finds that a majority (51%) think "the question of whether or not Trump has engaged in a pattern of sexual misconduct" is an important issue; 46% don't feel it is important.Asked about fired FBI Director James Comey, 48% of respondents said they find him to be more believable than Trump. A little more than a third (32%) said the President is the more believable of the pair.Views of the former FBI director were about evenly split -- 30% had a favorable opinion; 32% had an unfavorable one. Thirty-eight percent of the respondents had no opinion about Comey. A Marin County, California doctor says his research into medical marijuana has identified a compound that can help diabetes patients.Dr. Michael Moskowitz, President of Bay Area Pain Medical Associates, says it’s not about getting high, it’s about getting well – and he thinks he’s on to something.Moskowitz believes he has identified a rare component of marijuana called THCV that he says is helping one of his diabetic patients – a patient who’s blood sugar level varies between 50 and 1000 in a single day.“It’s not clear, but it appears that, on a preliminary basis, for the first month that he did that, the extent of how much he varied seems to be less,” said Moskowitz.THCV is found in a strain of marijuana called Black Beauty. It’s leaves are much darker than most marijuana.Although she doesn’t have diabetes, Nina Murphy has chronic neck and back pain she used to treat with traditional pain medication. “I was a little skeptical. I haven’t used marijuana before so it’s not something I was just going to jump into,” said Murphy. “I’m extremely pleased and I hope to off my meds in the next couple months so, yeah!”Moskowitz says more study needs to be done with Black Beauty. “Just having the opportunity to work with something that clearly has therapeutic value, but figuring out how to optimize that and make that work the best for the most number of people is very exciting,” he said.Moskowitz will travel to Miami next week to speaking at a conference to discuss his findings. 1500
