SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a 19-year-old was shot in Chicano Park Wednesday night. According to San Diego Police, the teen was walking with a group of men in the park just before 7 p.m. when an argument broke out and an unknown suspect pulled out a handgun. Several shots were fired at the 19-year-old, who was hit twice by the gunfire, police say. The victim ran away from the scene and was taken to the hospital by an acquaintance. He sustained non-life threatening injuries, police say. Both the victim and acquaintance were unable to provide any details about the shooting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Raids are expected to begin across the country this weekend targeting undocumented immigrants with deportation orders.According to the New York Times, ICE agents will target some 2,000 who have deportation orders in at least ten cities. The raids will include "collateral" deportations, meaning undocumented immigrants at the scene may also be detained."There is definitely fear," said Benjamin Prado, a member of the 38-year-old group Union Del Barrio. This weekend, the group will be sending out an unspecified number of patrols in various communities. Prado showed 10News a video recorded by the group on Thursday morning. In it, a tip from neighbors in City Heights led them to two vehicles believed to being driven by ICE agents. The group in turn informed people through different means, including social media posts about the presence of the agents.Another group taking action is the Council on American-Islamic Relations. On Thursday morning, national CAIR reissued a community advisory ahead of the impending raids."When you're stressed the first thing you forget is your rights," said Aleena Jun Nawabi, who heads outreach for CAIR San Diego.In the advisory, CAIR officials emphasize rights, including not having to open the front door unless there's a warrant.Those rights are also highlighted in cards and handouts that will be given out by Union Del Barrio. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Only in their second year of operation, Wheels of Change is preparing for a major expansion this year.San Diego teenager, Kevin Barber, and his mom, Carolyn Barber, MD, initially launched the program in 2018 in partnership with Alpha Project.Homeless individuals are paid /hr to clean up trash, traveling together in a van to different job sites. Thanks to new sources of funding, the nonprofit will be able to expand crews from 10 to 20 individuals, serving the community five days a week. "We were able to show the world, hey this works! Let's keep funding it more and let's expand the program," said Kevin. The city committed 0,000 to help fund the program, and they've also raised additional funding privately and from foundations. The Lucky Duck Foundation, Davis Charitable Fund, SDGE, the Danna Foundation, and multiple others, have been financial and/or strategic supporters of Wheels of Change at Alpha Project.Wheels of Change plans to employ over 5,200 homeless individuals in 2019, up from 375 their first year. 1057
