"I was definitely hopeful that, once again, we’ll have a process of consulting with an administration that wants to do something in regards to immigration versus what I would describe as an iron fist against anyone who’s coming into the country," says Pedro Rios, the director of the American Friends Service Committee.President-elect Biden has already shared some of his immigration related plans once he takes office. Biden has vowed to reinstate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) for children brought to the U.S. by their parents. The former vice president has also said he plans to halt funding for the border wall and reverse the Migrant Protection Protocols, allowing asylum seekers to wait in the United States, instead of Mexico, until their asylum case is heard. During the last presidential debate, Biden also promised a pathway to citizenship during his first 100 days in office. Rios says the passing of that plan would depend on who controls the senate come January. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego gun owners could soon face more requirements when it comes to storing their firearms.City Attorney Mara Elliott announced the proposal Tuesday. It would require gun owners to store their guns in a Department of Justice approved lockbox or trigger lock, unless the owner or authorized user is carrying the firearm or it is in their immediate control. Elliott said state law requires locks to accompany guns sold in California but does not always require their use. "Safe storage laws work when it comes to protecting our kids," said Elliott, who made the announcement next to a playground at Mission Bay. Elliott pointed to the 2013 death of 10-year-old Eric Klyaz, who was fatally shot when playing with a gun in a friend's garage. "Two families were torn apart that day, but the impact of his death cut deeper than that," Elliott said. Violators would face up to six months in jail and a ,000 fine. Elliott said police wouldn't be doing door-to-door checks, but could cite someone when responding to a different call.Still, Michael Schwartz, who heads the San Diego County Gun Owners PAC, said law is duplicative and that education is the better approach. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego court records show a history of legal disputes with Clark Construction Group, the company that employed the worker who died in yesterday’s accident on a construction site at UC San Diego.10News found a court complaint over the 2017 death of a driller. Frederick Von Kahl's family sued Clark Construction and other defendants for negligence, alleging they created a dangerous workplace at a San Ysidro job site which reportedly caused a valve to strike Kahl in his chest.Friday afternoon, Kahl family attorney Benjamin Bunn said that the case just recently moved into a settlement agreement. He said that Kahl had been married for 40 years.The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) website revealed that it issued violations and a ,260 fine. In another negligence case, a worker sued Clark Construction Group and other defendants over a 2010 accident at the San Diego Marriot & Marina Hotel, claiming that a large piece of concrete dropped through a roof and struck a worker's body and right arm.
