HOG MOUNTAIN, Ga. — A Georgia mother has gone viral after she posted a photo of her son shopping at Goodwill on Facebook, explaining that she was teaching him a lesson about money.According to Cierra Brittany Forney's Facebook post, her 13-year-old son had been acting "a little... entitled" recently. "Acting like he's too good to shop at Wal-Mart or making snarky comments about kids at school who shop at the Goodwill and quite a few other things," her post reads.Forney says she doesn't tolerate that. As a result of her son's behavior, she took him to Goodwill and made him use his own to buy clothes to wear the entire week to school."I want to teach my kids that money isn't everything and if you have to degrade other people because of where they shop, then you too will shop there," she said. Her post has received praise from parents all around the nation and has been shared nearly 250,000 times. In a separate Facebook post, Forney explains that she did not share the photo to shame her son, but rather to teach him that money and name brands don't change who people are. She also explains that she shared the post with her son's permission. "He was completely fine with it and still is," she said. "My son and I have an amazing relationship.""My son learned a valuable lesson from this and I believe it is just another story we can add to our lives memory to look back on," she said. "I did this to teach him that money and name brands don't change who we are as people. He can still be the amazing, adorable, loved kid that he is WITHOUT the expensive stores!"She also explained that she loves Goodwill because of the incredible deals she has found there."I SOLELY did this to help my son become a better man," she said. "My son is completely 100 percent okay with what happened. My son has learned a valuable lesson from this AND my son is rockin' his button up shirt he bought from the Goodwill with PRIDE today!" 1959

HARLEM, Manhattan — A 100-year-old woman in Harlem is serious about filling out the census. Heading to the streets with a bullhorn this week to celebrate her birthday, Katherine Nelms Nichson bellowed to her neighborhood to fill out the census.“Be counted in the census," she said at the corner of Lenox Avenue and 135th Street. "Come up off your butt."The deadline is weeks away. Officials around the country are worried the shortened timeline, impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak this year, will mean fewer responses than normal. Senator Brian Benjamin of Harlem said it’s not just on Nichson's birthday, but every day she's a political powerhouse.Julie Menin, the director of NYC Census 2020, said Nichson’s message is especially critical right now because New York City is facing an economic crisis. As of Friday, New York City had a response rate of 59.3 percent compared to the nationwide rate of 65.7 percent. The census is a survey required by the U.S. Constitution. It takes just 10 minutes to fill out and can be done online. Why is it so important? Its results are used to determine how much money municipalities gets from Washington for everything from housing to hospitals, roads, bridges, and schools. It is also used to determine the amount of representation a state has in Congress.Keith Wright, the leader of the New York County Democrats, hopes Nichson’s energy and enthusiasm will inspire people to just do it.The census deadline is Sept. 30.Fill out your census here. This story originally reported by Monica Morales on pix11.com. 1553

Hillary Clinton told a receptive audience over the weekend in India that while she thought President Donald Trump played to some of Americans' worst fears, he does not reflect the country as a whole."No, we did not deserve that," Clinton said when asked if the US "deserves" Trump as its leader.Clinton called the 2016 presidential race the "first reality TV campaign," and said Trump, as a bombastic "reality TV candidate," was able to win over enough of the audience to win the election. And in comments seized on by the Republican National Committee, Clinton said she had won sections of the country with more economic output and attributed some of Trump's insurgent victory to a series of social and economic anxieties and discriminatory attitudes among his supporters."I won the places that represent two-thirds of America's gross domestic product," Clinton said. "So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward. And his whole campaign, 'Make America Great Again,' was looking backwards. You know, you didn't like black people getting rights, you don't like women, you know, getting jobs, you don't want to, you know, see that Indian-American succeeding more than you are, whatever your problem is, I'm going to solve it."Clinton said there is "the phenomenon of disappointment" about economic outcomes, particularly after the 2008 financial crisis, one of three main areas where she said she sees Americans' fears play out.Second, she pointed to "a reaction to advancing opportunities and rights for other groups," citing advancements for African-Americans, the LGBT community and women -- and said the third area was "the reaction against immigrants."As for Trump's conduct on the international stage, Clinton pointed to the President's "affinity for dictators," including Russian President Vladimir Putin. But when asked if the Russians have anything compromising on Trump, Clinton said, "We'll find out. Follow the money."She made clear later in the discussion that she did not know where the special counsel's investigation into Russian election meddling and possible coordination with Trump's team is likely to lead."Whether or not it affects him or just people around him, nobody knows," Clinton said. 2266

Genetic testing company 23andMe has been given federal approval to sell at-home kits that test for three breast cancer gene mutations. This will be the first direct-to-consumer DNA test for these particular breast cancer gene mutations, the Food and Drug Administration said on Tuesday.A spokeswoman for 23andMe said the test for the three BRCA1/BRCA2 breast cancer gene mutations will be added "in the coming weeks" to the broader Health + Ancestry services, with no increase to the existing 9 cost. The test can only detect three out of more than 1,000 known BRCA mutations, according to the FDA. The BRCA1/BRCA2 hereditary mutations occur in about 2% of Ashkenazi Jewish women, but rarely occur in anyone else, the agency said in a press release."The test also does not provide information on a person's overall risk of developing any type of cancer," the FDA added.23sandMe already tests for genetic health risks for diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, along with wellness reports for things like lactose intolerance and saturated fat, and ancestral composition including Neanderthal ancestry. In 2013, the FDA ordered the company to stop sales of its home-testing kits, saying the Alphabet-backed company had failed to prove the validity of its product.Related: 23andMe gets funding for drug developmentAnne Wojcicki, who founded the company in 2006, called the FDA shutdown a "transformative moment" that prompted 23andMe to branch into drug development."Thank you to the FDA for hard work and progress on innovation," she tweeted on Tuesday. In 2015, 23andMe received approval from the FDA to test customers for whether they are carriers of certain disease-carrying genes that could be passed on to their children. In early 2017, the company received approval to issue genetic health risk reports. In September of last year, the company said it received 0 million in funding from Sequoia Capital to develop drugs based on user DNA.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.
