SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A popular North Park concert venue has agreed to pay ,000 worth of fines and reimburse the City of San Diego ,000 in police investigation costs.The operators of Observatory North Park agreed to pay the penalties after City Attorney Mara Elliott filed a complaint against the venue on July 3. The complaint alleged the venue's operators were maintaining a public nuisance and operating without required permits. The city attorney's office added that the Observatory has become a source of local complaints for, "noise, violence, teenage drinking, public intoxication, public vomiting, and the accumulation of trash, debris, and human waste."“The Observatory has long dragged its heels on correcting violations that would protect the safety of its patrons and North Park community residents,” Elliott said in a release. “Its managers have agreed to begin following the law, and if they don’t, our Office will be there to hold them accountable.”The building also includes West Coast Tavern next door, which shares restrooms and bar areas with the theater.Between January 2015 and May 2019, San Diego Police received 174 calls to the venue, leading to 500 hours of overtime, the office said.The operators of the North Park venue agreed to address criminal activity and nuisance complaints and obtain all required permits. The venue's mezzanine and balcony will also remain closed until building permits and code violations are addressed. If the Observatory fails to comply with the terms of the agreement with the city, another 0,000 in fines will be issued, the office said.The lawsuit is the latest issue in the city's battle with the venue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was medevaced from a Carnival cruise ship Monday after a reported stroke. According to the Coast Guard, the rescue happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday roughly 45 miles northwest of San Diego. A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched to assist. Once on the scene, the Jayhawk crew lowered a rescue swimmer to the cruise ship to assess the 58-year-old man. The crew took the man to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla just after 9:20 p.m., according to the Coast Guard. The man is said to be in stable condition. 540

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A La Jolla High School student was arrested Friday for threatening a school shooting this week.San Diego Police were made aware of a social media threat Thursday, however, police said the 15-year-old student made the threat Wednesday "to conduct a shooting at the school."The student was contacted Friday, SDPD said. Police searched the student's home but did not find any firearms. Police did not say if they believed the threat to be credible, but that it warranted investigation.Police said the student has been placed in Juvenile Hall."This is absolutely an example of how ‘See something, Say something’ is supposed to work," said SDPD Chief Michael Marquez. "Students warned administrators a threat had been made, and school leaders notified all parents of this report. Multiple parents then spoke with their students and uncovered potential evidence of a threat. In the end, it was this evidence which allowed police to take swift action this morning."Police said the student was already serving a suspension for a separate incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Harley-Davidson owner is hoping for leads after his motorcycle disappeared from a mall parking lot in Mission Valley.Sebastian Rudi, who works at Westfield Mission Valley, was expecting to see his newly purchased 2002 Harley after his shift ended around 10 p.m. Saturday. Instead the bike that was parked in the underground lot, feet from the ramp into the mall, was gone."A little panic ... mixture of anger and pure disappointment," said Rudi.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThat may actually an understatement. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Rancho Penasquitos man says on Sunday morning he walked outside to discover someone had broken into most of the mailboxes on his street. He added that even mailboxes that had locks had been pried open and left empty.“I woke up this morning to pick up my newspaper and I noticed every mailbox up and down the street and adjacent streets I could see had been opened and all the mail had been removed,” he said. The neighbor asked ABC 10News not to be identified.He said he’s lived in the area for about 10 years and it’s generally quiet. They had one incident a few years ago where mail was stolen around tax return season. He’s concerned about this theft because of the looming November election.“I kinda felt it might’ve had something to do with stealing the ballots,” he said.He said both he and his next door neighbor had received their ballots in the days immediately before the theft. Other neighbors in the area also said they already got their ballots in the mail, but the incident is a reminder to be extra cautious with important voting documents moving through the postal system.“Personally, I’ve never been a victim of crime here, or do I know anybody that’s been a victim of crime here, so it’s something that’s concerning,” he said.The neighbor added that he did email the registrar’s office to let them know of the possibility of stolen ballots in his neighborhood. 1407
