YUSHU, Qinghai, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities are working to protect the quake survivors in the northwestern province of Qinghai from potential secondary disasters.The government has provided sufficient food, drinking water and tents for more than 200,000 quake survivors, but landslides, floods and disease outbreaks may still threaten their lives.The magnitude 7.1 quake has killed at least 2,220 people, with 70 still missing and more than 12,000 injured.Recent rain has raised the risk of landslides as the devastating quake and aftershocks has destabilized mountain slopes. NANNING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The government of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region issued a fire ban Saturday ahead of the upcoming Tomb-sweeping Day, in a bid to prevent forest fires against the backdrop of a prolonged drought.According to the ban, tomb-goers are forbidden to burn paper money or incenses and to set off fireworks in forest zones from April 3 to 17.They are also banned from burning straws, leaves, charcoal and others in forest zones.Violators will be fined or even detained and prosecuted, according to the ban.As of Wednesday, the drought, which began in southwestern China last year, has left 19.4 million people with water shortages and affected 6.48 million hectares of farmland in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi and Chongqing, according to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.It is a tradition for Chinese to visit family graves during the Qingming or Tomb-sweeping Day, which falls on April 5 this year. NAIROBI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Somali pirates have hijacked a Taiwan fishing boat off the Horn of Africa nation coast with 26 crew members, a regional maritime official confirmed on Saturday.Andrew Mwangura, East Africa coordinator of Seafarers Assistance Program, said the ship's owner lost contact with the Tai Yuan 227 two days ago north of the Seychelles as it headed for the Maldives. "The fishing boat lost contacts two days ago and has 26 crew members from China, Kenya, Taiwanese and Mozambique.
