On a recent getaway to Phoenix to relax, eat more than I should and enjoy a little baseball, I had the good fortune to check into The Scott Resort & Spa. On Wednesday, reports surfaced that retailer Sears might file bankruptcy, which could force the closure of some, if not all, of the retailer's remaining 900 locations. Sears joined forces with Alvah Curtis Roebuck, the company quickly became a mail-to-order giant. By the mid-1890s, Sears had a 532-page catalog of items. According to the retailer, the 1895 catalog contained clothing, accessories, wagons, fishing tackle, stoves, furniture, china, musical instruments, saddles, firearms, buggies, bicycles, baby carriages and glassware. 1906: Not only was Sears expanding operations in Chicago, but it was also opening centers elsewhere, including in Dallas. Sears would own exclusive rights to Craftsman tools until 2017, when it was sold to Black and Decker. 1931: For the first time in company history, the majority of Sears' revenue came from its retail stores. According to Sears, 53.4 percent of sales in 1931 were from its stores. By 1933, Sears opened 400 retail locations. 1941: As the United States entered into war, Sears' expansion of retail operations paused. At this point, Sears had opened 600 locations.1953: Sears resumes its growth not only in the United States, but it is also opening stores in Canada. 1973: Almost 90 years after moving to Chicago, Sears expands its operations into the Sears Tower, which is one of the tallest skyscrappers in the word. 1993: More than a decade after launching the Sears catalog, Sears ended production of the catalog, and instead shifted its focus on its brick and mortar locations, auto stores, and outlets. 2004: Kmart purchased Sears (then named the Sears Roebuck Co.) and merged the two brands into the Sears Holding Company. On Aug. 26, 2017, 15-year-old Damon Grimes was involved in a police pursuit while driving an ATV in Detroit. That pursuit ended in a crash that claimed Grimes’ life.Reporters at Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit requested video from the crash under the Freedom of Information Act, and received 25 hours worth of video from police body cameras and dash cameras, surveillance video and cell phone video shot by witnesses that tell the story of the senseless death.Officials did not provide footage from the dash cam of the pursuit by Michigan State Troopers, Mark Bessner and Ethan Berger.At 5:31 p.m., video shows Damon Grimes riding his ATV down Rossini Avenue and Gratiot in Detroit. At that time, Trooper Mark Bessner requested priority to chase an ATV.“He flipped. Flipped!” Detroit Police Officer Williams said, video shows.“Yup, tell them there’s an accident,” said DPD Officer Boersman, who was first on the scene.Grimes had hit a parked Ford F-150 with his ATV and he flew off the four-wheeler.“0-9, he’s slowed down, we tased him and he crashed out. OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Police responded to a reported shooting behind Oceanside High School early Saturday but weren't able to locate any potential suspects or victims, an officer said.Dispatchers received several calls around 2:30 a.m. reporting the sound of gunshots near the intersection of Division Street and Central Avenue, Oceanside Police Lt. Kedrick Sadler said. Officers headed to the scene and were able to find shell casings on the ground in the area, indicating a shooting had occurred, but couldn't find anyone associated with the incident, Sadler said.A vehicle reportedly was seen speeding from the area, but police could not provide a description. Investigators believe the shooting may be gang-related, Sadler said. 741
