ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) – A man is dead after police say he barricaded himself inside an Escondido Motel Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to the Hacienda Motel on the 700 block of North Broadway around 2 p.m. after a man didn’t check out of his room. Once they arrived and approached the room, officers say the man inside told them he had a gun and to back away. As they retreated, officers heard two shots fired. SWAT was then called to assist and, after the suspect was barricaded inside the room for several hours, authorities entered and found the man dead. According to police, the man is approximately 30-years-old, but his identity hasn’t yet been released. The motel was evacuated during the incident and nearby streets blocked off. 755

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — The victims of Friday's deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas were identified Saturday, as officials reopened the beach but cautioned that the area remained active. Speaking to the press, Encinitas Lifeguard Captain Larry Giles said the site around the collapse will remain taped off from the public as crews continue to assess the stability of the rock."From what we've learned this morning ... the area's still active. [Geotechnical consultant] is concerned about the areas to the side of the current failure failing," Giles said. "The failure is not affecting the structures up top. (KGTV) — Encinitas leaders will consider developing a parking lot for the homeless next week, but the idea is already receiving pushback.If approved, the parking lot would be the first for homeless use in North County and modeled after other similar lots in San Diego.The location, at the Leichtag Commons agricultural property on Saxony Road, would be operated by Jewish Family Services.
