RAMONA (CNS) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash today on the Barona Indian Reservation.A motorcycle was hit and ended up underneath a Ford sedan around 1:30 p.m. on Wildcat Canyon Road more than a mile south of Little Klondike Road, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. The area is about halfway between Barona Resort and Casino and the community of Ramona.Passersby stopped and were able to pull the motorcyclist out from underneath the car, but the biker succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash, the CHP said.The northbound lane of the road was shut down.Identifying information on the victim was not immediately available. 659

Protesting an animal rights protest, a chef and co-owner at Antler Kitchen & Bar in Toronto began butchering a raw deer leg with a sharp knife in the restaurant's window.It all started with a friendly chalkboard feud with another local restaurant down the street. I have a lot of respect for the vegan diet because I know how hard it is.”But, Marni Ugar, who already had experience organizing animal rights protests, took offense. She saw the sign and organized a rally, the Canadian publication wrote.A group of animal rights activists got together several times in front of the restaurant, chanting "you're a murderer" and "you've got blood on your hands," according to The Globe and Mail. After three months of listening to chants of murder echo through his restaurant came Hunter's breaking point - a counterprotest in full view of the animal rights activists."I figured I'll show them," Hunter told The Globe and Mail. "I'm going to have my own protest."Then protesters held up signs in front of the window as he carved. One had big, pink letters - MURDER. On a street full of butcher shops and other restaurants serving meat, she picked Antler as her protesting focal point to debunk what she calls a myth that raising animals in pastures free from hormones and antibiotics is more ethical than factory farming, she told The Daily Globe and Mail. Nivinskus, of Ramona, died of apparent gunshot wounds Sunday just after 8:30 p.m., investigators said. The San Diego County Medical Examiner has ruled Nivinskus's death a homicide.San Diego Sheriff's deputies said deputies were called to the 15900 block of Wood Rock Lane for reports of possible gunshots and someone yelling. RALEIGH, N.C. – The state of North Carolina has reported its first case of a dog testing positive for the novel coronavirus and the canine sadly died.The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) says the dog’s owner brought it to the NC State Veterinary Hospital on Aug. 3 after it showed signs of respiratory distress earlier in the day. It then succumbed to its "acute illness."The owner told staff that a member of the family had previously tested positive for COVID-19 and later tested negative, according to NCDHHS.Officials say samples were then collected from the dog and tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The tests later confirmed the pup was positive for the virus.A necropsy has been performed on the dog to try to determine the anima’s state of health at the time of the death and the cause of death, but the investigation in ongoing.“Based on the information available, the risk of animals spreading the virus to people is considered to be low,” said Dr. Carl Williams, State Public Health Veterinarian.NCDHHS says if pet owners are concerned about the health of their dogs, they should contact their veterinarian and discuss the symptoms before bringing them to the veterinarian office.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says there currently is no evidence that pets play a significant role in spreading the coronavirus.“There is no indication at this time that dogs can transmit the virus to other animals, so there is no justification in taking measures against companion animals that may compromise their welfare,” said State Veterinarian Dr. Doug Meckes.The CDC says it’s still learning about the virus, but it appears that it can spread from people to animals in some situation, especially after close contact with a person with COVID-19.
