OAXACA, Mexico (KGTV) - A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Mexico's southern Pacific coastline Friday, according to USGS.The earthquake struck in the state of Oaxaca shortly after 3:30 p.m., northeast of the city of Pinotepa de Don Luis. It was originally reported as a preliminary 7.5-magnitude quake, before being downgraded.A tsunami warning was not been issued for the area, according to NOAA.Initially Mexico's National Seismological Service reported more than 50 aftershocks in the hour following the earthquake. Alejandro Murat crashed while serveying damage from the earthquake, according to Reuters. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — A body was discovered in a small North County lake while vector control workers sprayed for bugs Thursday.A helicopter pilot was dropping larvicide over the area behind the Vons shopping center at State Route 76 and Frazee Road about 1 p.m. and spotted the body floating on the surface, according to police.The lagoon was inaccessible by foot, said police. Officers deployed a drone to confirm there was a body on the scene.Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguards were called to retrieve the person's remains. Investigators believe he or she may have been in the water for at least two weeks.Oceanside Police responded to the scene and investigated the discovery. The incident is the second discovery of a body in Oceanside Thursday. OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Edmond, Oklahoma teacher is offering free rides to teachers trying to get to the Capitol for the walkout."I couldn’t tell you how many people have been in this car," Troy Frieling said. "I have no idea. I’ve had children, administrators, support staff, just teachers in general."For the last eight days, Troy Frieling has shuttled people to and from the Capitol from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. He picks them up at their cars parked in neighborhoods a few miles away and drops them off just a few steps from the rally.Frieling is a teacher himself and so is his wife."Honestly I wanted to be able to serve the teachers," Frieling said. "I just didn’t feel like my time standing in line up there was going to help anything."He said he has picked up some of the same people day after day.A ride in Frieling's truck is completely free."They’ve asked me, 'Do you want donations?' and I’m like, 'No, it wouldn’t be a free ride if you gave me donations,'" he saidHe said he has found a few dollars left behind in his truck. The only thing he asks of his passengers is they sign a poster in his car. OMAHA, Neb. — Authorities in Omaha say two people died and two others are in critical condition after a home explosion and subsequent fire early Tuesday morning.Following the deadly explosion, it was discovered that the homeowner, 74-year-old Theresa Toledo, had filed a petition for a domestic abuse protection order against 27-year-old Alexander Toledo, stating her relationship as his grandmother. Theresa and her daughter, Angela Toledo, both died in the fire that broke out in the 4800 block of South 51st Street. A dog also was found dead at the scene. According to the Omaha World Herald, Alexander and another person who lived in the home suffered critical injuries.Theresa wrote in the petition, "Alex is on meth, mushrooms that I'm aware of, I haven't been able to see my grandchildren since summer because they are afraid of him as he talks to himself and says his stepfather is in his head, which is not true...he has put holes in the basement walls where he stays and you can't even walk in the basement. He has electronics in the walls & ceiling. I'm afraid he will start my house on fire."Toledo also described her grandson's alleged criminal history with narcotics. She concluded the petition by writing, "I need Alex out of my house now before he destroys my house or harms me, the drugs make him crazy."According to Omaha Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Fitzpatrick, crews arrived on the scene at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, with a second alarm called at 8:23 a.m. The entire block was initially evacuated before authorities determined there was no threat to other residents.The house that exploded is a complete loss and was leveled in the explosion. Some surrounding homes have extensive damage.Neighbors described the scene as horrifying and said it sounded like a bomb went off. "I heard a very loud explosion. It sounded almost like something was bombed and I flew out of the house thinking it was my house and when I got outside I could see the house was on fire and someone was running down the hill and saying to call 911," said Marianne Distefano, a neighbor. When fire rescue arrived at the scene, the house was engulfed in flames. "It was horrible. I mean it was just in flames and after that, smoke, but you could see it was bad. It looked like someone had bombed the house," Distefano said. Distefano saw one neighbor jump to action. Jeff Mell ran towards the flames when he saw what was happening. "I heard something fall, it sounded like something fell on our house, I thought it was a tree or whatever so I came out front angry and I looked down the street and saw flames coming and I automatically just started running," Mell said. He and another neighbor wrapped a man in blankets and helped him to a safer area. Fire investigators are probing the cause of the explosion. "There are so many variables to tell right now, that’s why we have to investigate and kind of piece it together to see exactly what it was that made that house explode. As you can see, the explosion was pretty big," said Fitzpatrick. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Oceanside man says he and his puppy were mauled by an unleashed dog while out for an evening walk. On Monday around 11 p.m. near Albertsons on Mission Avenue, Kevin Humphrey was taking his 7-month-old terrier mix Stitch out for his final walk when he saw a homeless man and his brown-and-white pit bull, loose. Humphrey says the owner managed to catch up to the dog and leash him.Humphrey went on with his walk along the back side of the shopping center, when he says he saw the dog, unleashed again. Humphrey picked his dog up and started running, but didn't get far."It just starts biting at me and biting at me. He tries to bite my dog's throat out," said Humphrey.Humphrey says the dog bit him in the back and arm before latching onto his puppy's throat. His puppy's life on the line, Humphrey jammed his hand into pit bull's jaws."I put my hand in the dog's mouth so he wouldn't bite. I'm crying, 'Don't kill my dog! Don't kill my dog!" said Humphrey.After a tortuous 20 minutes, the dog finally let go. Humphrey raced to get help for his dog and then himself. Stitch suffered more than a dozen bites. For Humphrey, torn tendons and bone fragments in his hand led to two surgeries.The San Diego Humane Society says the homeless man contends Humphrey went into his tent and provoked his 4-year-old dog, which Humphrey denies. The pit bull is under a 10-day quarantine. If he's reclaimed, he'll have to wear a muzzle. 1458
