DENVER -- Nearly 70 percent of marijuana dispensaries contacted during a health study in 2017 recommended that expectant moms suffering from morning sickness use marijuana.The alarming statistic was part of a study conducted by Denver Health, with help from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Colorado School of Public Health and the University of Utah, which was published in the peer-reviewed Obstetrics & Gynecology."It was surprising and concerning to us, because there are data results that cannabis can be harmful to the developing fetus," said Dr. Torri Metz, a high risk obstetrician at Denver Health.Metz said the study used a "mystery caller approach," with the caller reaching out to 465 Colorado dispensaries. Four-hundred responded.A researcher, claiming to be eight weeks pregnant, told an employee answering the phone at one dispensary that she was feeling nauseated, and asked if there were any products that are recommended for morning sickness.The employee replied: "Let me call my daughter, she just had a baby, call me back in five minutes."When asked why a product was or was not recommended, an employee at another dispensary responded: "Technically with you being pregnant, I do not think you are supposed to be consuming that, but if I were to suggest something, I suggest something high in THC."When a researcher asked an employee at another dispensary about recommendations on frequency, the employee replied: "In the context of edibles, start with a low dose and see how it works out for you because those types of things would, um, not cross the blood-brain barrier so even if you have got the CBDs and the other good parts of the plant would get in your baby's blood system but the psychotropic properties, the THC molecule, would not get near your baby, so basically would not be getting your baby stoned."The head of the Marijuana Industry Group said she was surprised by the study results.Kristi Kelly, the group's executive director said, "What this tells us as an industry is that we have a gap in our 'onboarding process,' in terms of training our dispensary workers to provide not just a good conversation on products, usage and dosing... but it's very important that employees clarify they are not medical professionals and that they also redirect that patient or customers to also have a conversation with their health care professional." 2451

DETROIT, Mich. -- A 70-year-old woman is suing the Detroit Police Department for millions of dollars, accusing its officers of "violent abuse.""I never in my life had handcuffs on," said the woman, Lisa Wright. But all that changed on Nov. 20, 2019, when Wright said she and her grandson heard a commotion outside her home on Wyoming near Chippewa on Detroit's west side.Wright's grandson opened the door and they were allegedly assaulted by police officers.Thursday, at a press conference with her attorneys, Wright told reporters how she was forced to the ground and handcuffed."We didn't do anything," Wright said they tried to tell police."After they roughed her up and abused her for 30 minutes or so, they just released her," said Wright's attorney, Michael Fortner. "Not even an apology."Wright, whose husband ended up rushing her to a nearby hospital where she remained for seven days, is now suing the City of Detroit and Detroit police for million for alleged physical injuries, post-traumatic stress, humiliation, and mental anguish.It all began on Nov. 20, 2019, when Detroit police officers responded to a 911 call for help at a house three doors away from Wright's home.During that run, two police officers were shot, including officer Rasheen McClain who died from his injuries.Immediately after the shooting, as police were searching the area for the suspect, Wright and her attorneys claim officers dragged her and her grandson out of their home and caused them injuries.In the lawsuit, officers "subjected plaintiff to unlawful searches of her person and property, wrongful arrest/detention, unnecessary and violent abuse, false arrest, and other unconstitutional conduct."Click on the video to hear from Wright and her attorneys.In December, WXYZ began looking into Wright's allegations of police misconduct, and police officials said they were investigating the claims. DETROIT — A clash between Detroit police and protesters was caught on camera Sunday night.Video shared on Twitter shows a group of protesters marching near Waterman and Vernor Highway in Detroit. The peaceful demonstrators surrounded a police cruiser, which pulls forward and into a group of protesters.Some protesters jumped onto the hood of the vehicle as it pulled forward.Leo Alvarado, who was at a nearby gas station, witnessed the altercation."Just so happened to be getting out with my wife when we heard a bunch of screaming and turned around, and cops were plowing through the crowd or started to drive through the crowd," Alvarado said. "Craziness. I've never seen anything like that in my life. Hopefully never again have to see anything like that."Alvarado said a medic treated cuts and wounds that were on demonstrators' arms.
