SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family’s trip to the pumpkin patch goes sour when thieves went picking through their car while they were picking out their pumpkins.Fay Feltman, her daughter, her granddaughter and great grandson went to the pumpkin patch located off Mission Gorge in Grantville.Because of how busy the lot was, they struggled to find an open space. She tells 10 News her daughter ran to the car to find the window smashed and the purse stolen right from the trunk of the car.Feltman says her and her family were only in the patch for about 30 minutes. In that amount of time the thieves broke in, stole the purse and made it to Walmart off Murphy Canyon Road to make the purchase.Before heading into the pumpkin patch, Feltman says they took an extra step to put their purses in the trunk, making sure to not leave them in the back seat and visible.RELATED: Family alerted to burglars roaming tented condoUnfortunately the thieves still smashed the driver’s window to access the trunk latch but only grabbed her daughter’s purse and leaving Feltman’s.Feltman’s daughter has spent the past few days on the phone with the bank trying to cancel cards and reorder new ones.She also was at the DMV all day Monday and purchasing a new phone Tuesday. “Who would dream of people who are so evil and so cruel and so black hearted to do something like this I’m just in shock”.Now, the family left dealing with a complete invasion of privacy and sense of security, ”It’s like you’re violated even though they didn’t take any thing of mine personally they were in my car, reaching into my car just that alone makes you feel dirty, its just an icky feeling” Feltman tells us. 1937

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A cold winter storm is set to bring rain and snow to San Diego County starting Monday, according to the National Weather Service.The agency says the San Diego County mountains could see as much as six inches of snow, sparking a winter storm watch from 8 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Tuesday.The heaviest snow is expected to fall above 5,500 feet with lighter amounts down to 4,500 feet.RELATED: Check today's forecast in your areaMeanwhile, other parts of the county could see much-needed rain totaling as much as one inch. Thunderstorms are also possible, the agency said.A beach hazards statement was issued Saturday ahead of the storm. Waves and surf of four to seven feet are expected with sets as high as eight feet. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City leaders say they're making strides in overhauling its water department after a disastrous 2018. In a presentation to the Audit Committee Wednesday, city public utilities managers said they had implemented about a dozen reforms after a series of missteps last year. In 2018, thousands of San Diegans received erroneous water bills, which an audit largely blamed on human error. A later audit found that some meter box and lid replacement workers were fudging time cards amid a 22,000 unit backlog. RELATED: New round of complaints on high water bills"We needed to change the culture and make sure that all these issues were addressed," said Johnnie Perkins, San Diego's deputy chief operating officer. Perkins said the Public Utilities Department has implemented new, efficient work strategies. These include getting workers out to the field faster, overhauling how customer service representatives interact with residents, and using software to pick routes that make sense. Previously, for example, workers could be sent to do water meter work in Rancho Bernardo only to be sent to San Ysidro. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former North County contractor who pleaded guilty to several charges, including grand theft, received a five-year sentence on Monday.Prosecutors said Marc Morningstar owes thousands of dollars to more than a dozen former customers. Team 10 first exposed Morningstar in early 2017 after several people contacted Team 10 about his questionable business practices. Morningstar pleaded guilty to failure to file a tax return, two counts of grand theft of personal property, and using personal identifying information of another person. He also admitted to two misdemeanors—failure to secure payment of compensation and contracting without a license.The judge sentenced him to local custody. He will receive credit for the time he has already served, which was more than 200 days. He also owes 13 victims nearly ,000, according to deputy district attorney Amy Lafer.During the hearing, Morningstar’s girlfriend Maria Meeuwisse requested to address the court. She said she is a victim of Morningstar as well.“He will not be living with me when he gets out, whenever he does get out. He has used my social security number,” she told the judge. Meeuwisse previously pleaded guilty to her role in the scheme, which included a misdemeanor of contracting without a license and failure to secure payment of compensation.Judge Timothy Walsh said that Morningstar has to “rethink the way he approaches his life.” 1430

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 58-year-old man severely injured after an assault at a home in Clairemont in early April died Monday. According to police, 58-year-old Randy Taing died of his injuries in the evening of April 8. San Diego Police said the incident occurred in the 4100 block of Ashford St. before 12 p.m. The man reportedly called his wife sometime around 11:45 a.m., though his wife said the phone was silent.She asked her son to call, who got through to his dad. That's when the man told his son something along the lines of a possible break-in, police say.The man's son called 9-1-1 and rushed home to find his father with upper body injuries. The man was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but a safe had been taken. Neighbors of the family-owned business a mile away from their home, Rose Donuts, said the safe probably contained cash from the business. A family friend said the father, who he called Randy, was asleep at home during the robbery because he was filling in for his nephew at work. He said he was baking donuts at 2 a.m. while his nephew was on vacation.Customers who work in the area say the family is beloved. "They have two boys and sometimes they even babysit the grand kids while they’re working...
