SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials say free flu shots will be offered at six events in the coming days, just as flu season picks up around the county.Health officials say this helps lower the risk of San Diegans getting influenza and the coronavirus at the same time and prevent the local healthcare system from being overwhelmed.The upcoming clinics will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first flu shot clinic will occur on Oct. 22 at North Central Public Health Center, 5055 Ruffin Road.The others will take place:-- Saturday, Oct. 24 at South Public Health Center, 690 Oxford Street, Chula Vista.-- Tuesday, Oct. 27 at North Coastal Public Health Center, 3609 Ocean Ranch Blvd, Oceanside.-- Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Central Public Health Center VIP Trailer, 3177A Oceanview Blvd.-- Thursday, Oct. 29 at East Public Health Center, 367 N. The video shows a protester being taken away in an unmarked van as one officer warns her family around her not to follow them or he will shoot. Thursday at around 9:30 pm, a young woman is handcuffed on Park Avenue. Moments later, she is snatched off the street and taken away in the unmarked police vehicle. "She said somebody took Shayla; like somebody came and took her," the woman's mother, Breann Piccini, told ABC 10News exclusively. (WATCH VIDEO IN PLAYER ABOVE STORY)The woman detained in the video is a 20-year-old biracial San Diego State University student, Shayla Piccini. Piccini's mother said Shayla and her cousins spent the day at a massive protest in Downtown San Diego. After several hours, the group was walking back to their car when Shayla saw several police motorcycles driving past them. Elliott has heard complaints from neighbors and has filed a civil enforcement action to shut down a short-term vacation rental property in La Jolla that has been dubbed a "COVID party mansion."The complaint alleges that defendants are maintaining a public nuisance and engaging in unfair competition, including false advertising at the La Jolla Farms rental property located at 9660 Black Gold Rd. According to city officials, the rental property continues to operate in violation of state and county COVID-19 public health orders.According to a press release, Elliott is seeking civil penalties and a permanent injunction against property owners Mousa Hussain Mushkor and Zahra Ali Kasim, property manager Nital Meshkoor, and Steven S. Barbarich, who leased the property from Mushkor and subleased it as a short-term rental.City officials said the oceanfront mansion has been the subject of at least 30 calls to the San Diego Police Department. Officers have spent more than 173 hours at the property to investigate nuisance activity. Most of the incidents involved raucous parties, some of which had up to 300 attendees.Elliott said about a dozen of the party complaints came during the COVID-19 pandemic, while public health orders prohibited large gatherings.According to the press release, concerns about the property were brought to the City Attorney’s Office by San Diego police and by neighbors who reported that the situation was "becoming more pronounced as the COVID-19 pandemic progressed." “Shutting down dangerous party houses protects the public health by preventing COVID super-spreader events and other illegal behavior,” Elliott said. “It’s unfortunate that San Diego does not have short term rental regulations in place. Relief for this neighborhood would have come much sooner. Instead we must rely on time-intensive prosecutions at significant taxpayer expense.”According to the press release, gunfire was reported to police during a party in May of 2019. Officers arrived and found a large party in progress. Partygoers questioned by police admitted gunshots were fired during a fight that had occurred earlier. Police found shell casings outside the property and a neighbor found an additional casing the next day and turned it over to police. The City Attorney's Office assembled evidence from investigations by SDPD, the Code Enforcement Division of the City’s Development Services Department, the County Health & Human Services Department, and the City Fire Marshal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County has seen two flu deaths and more than twice the unusual number of illnesses so far this season, health officials reported Wednesday. County Health and Human Services officials said the number of confirmed flu cases is more than double the past three-year average, putting this year on par with the severe 2017-2018 flu season. Seventy-seven San Diego County residents died of flu complications last season. Almost 10,000 became ill. More than 235 cases of flu were confirmed by Sept. 28, compared to 67 at this time last flu season. “People should get vaccinated now to avoid getting sick and infecting others,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The vaccine is safe and effective and is available throughout the region.” The flu shot is recommended for everyone over six months old. It takes about two weeks for immunity to develop, according to health officials. Anyone who needs the vaccine and does not have health insurance can go to a County public health center. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents at Aquatera Apartments in Mission Valley say they are upset about how managers handled notifying them about a violent attack in their complex. Many residents saw police cars parked at Aquatera for much of the day on Sept. 4. An email from the management company was not sent notifying residents until Monday.Aquatera spokesperson Margie Newman confirms to 10News that a resident was assaulted on the premises. She says the resident went to Aquatera staff for help. Staff immediately called police. Newman says a suspect was arrested within the hour. Because the threat to residents was ended so quickly, the decision was made to gather more information before notifying other residents. "Our team simply wanted to get it right. The threat was passed. The perpetrator was caught within the hour, so we wanted to make sure that what we were sharing was the most accurate information," Newman said.Several residents told 10News they asked Aquatera staff what had happened and were not given answers. Monday, a resident checked the Crimemapping.com website, which aggregates police report data from the San Diego Police Department. It listed a rape at the Aquatera address at noon on the 4th. The resident contacted Aquatera management to ask why residents hadn't been notified about a sexual assault five days prior. A few hours later is when the email went out to residents, saying an assault had taken place and an arrest made. The email also listed a number of steps residents could take to increase their personal safety."It's disturbing that it took five days, especially when our safety is concerned. Very disturbing," said a resident who identified herself as Lisa. "My husband is now in charge of walking the dogs at night. I have mace that I actually bought today.
