More college students are coming back home, trying to save money and pay off debt.The findings from a Junior Achievement study have parents shocked and concerned, and JA jumping into action.Leith Walk Elementary Middle School is one on JA's roster to visit and talk with, and the students are very aware of what it takes to be financially independent.Walking around Mr. Jason Peinert's 7th grade class, you hear students discussing their futures, "you should always have a plan b," one boy said. "I want to like have my own house, my own property, I don't want to be bossed around by my mom," Imeah Curbean, 13, said, smiling.Here they plan a path from education to a career that will support them in the future."My kids go through simulations with check registers, as well as understanding opportunity cost," Mr. Peinert said they also write essays on saving money for the future.During the group discussion, one student echoed the sentiment, saying you wouldn't want to make decisions that put you in a corner. One of the big decisions, how to achieve higher educationJA's new study on financial literacy shows 75% of teens are worried about paying for college.The next finding was disturbing, "only half of the kids said that they wanted to become independently financial from their parents," Senior Vice President Kim Fabian of the Central Maryland Junior Achievement Chapter said. Students told them, they understand the financial strains of paying for college and, for many, the reality after graduating is to move back home to save money and pay off debt, earning the nickname "Boomerang Generation"."What we find works the best is when kids are actually doing things that will relate to what they'll be doing in the real world, so we try to create experiences while they're still in school that will help them learn those skills like communication, teamwork, how to be on time for things, what questions they should be asking, how to do a good job interview," Fabian said real world experience is key.Junior Achievement has a list of schools and programs on their website to get involved in. Nearly 7 in 10 Americans are motivated to improve their health during the pandemic, according to a new poll.Researchers with MDVIP and Ipsos conducted the survey including Americans age 35 and older on July 9 and released their findings this week.Some of the results confirm what many of us are feeling: half of respondents said they feel more stressed, anxious and depressed than before the pandemic, and one in three said they have developed an unhealthy habit, such as overeating, excessive drinking or not exercising.It seems the global pandemic is also spurring some positive trends, as Americans reexamine their health and habits.The data found that 69 percent of participants said the pandemic had motivated them to be healthier. More than half, 52 percent, said it’s even more important now to get their body weight under control.Obesity has been found to be a risk factor for Covid-19 complications.“The pandemic is helping reinforce for many Americans the importance of maintaining a healthy routine and getting regular preventive care to not only mitigate their risk for COVID-19, but also to avoid other debilitating health conditions down the road,” said Dr. Andrea Klemes, MDVIP Chief Medical Officer. 1223

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A new piece of evidence in the case of a missing Tennessee 5-year-old indicates that Joe Clyde Daniels could still be alive.The boy disappeared in April and investigators have long presumed he is dead. But, his body has never been found. Scripps station WTVF in Nashville obtained photos of the letter that was sent anonymously to Joe Clyde's grandparents.The handwritten letter was postmarked out of Nashville. It was sent this week to the grandparents in Dickson, Tennessee. The anonymous writer claims Joe Clyde's mother, Krystal Daniels, arranged to give the little boy away."I believe Krystal got Joe's clothes, packed them into a bag... and left Joe on the side of the road," the letter says.The writer claims that he is alive and living in west Tennessee, possibly in Jackson. "If we could get Krystal to confess what really happened...with this case. I know it's a bizarre case," the letter reads. The letter goes on to name those involved. WTVF has chosen not to reveal the names because the individuals have not been named by police as part of the investigation. Jake Lockert, the attorney for Joseph Daniels — Joe Clyde's father who is charged in his death — confirmed the grandparents have turned the letter over to authorities. Investigators have yet to comment on the new evidence.  Police say Krystal Daniels had motive against Joe Clyde. Investigators tell NewsChannel 5 she was frustrated with raising a child with autism and was angry the family was forced to give away their dogs because of him.  The letter doesn't mention the child's father. Earlier this year, investigators said Joseph Daniels confessed to killing his son. However, his attorney argues the confession was coerced. To this day, investigators said Joseph Daniels has not been able to tell them what happened to his son's remains.   1940

Much like fired FBI Director James Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe wrote memos documenting his conversations with President Donald Trump, a source with knowledge of the matter told CNN.A person familiar with the matter told CNN McCabe's memos are now in the hands of special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.The memos also detail what Comey told McCabe about his own interactions with Trump while he was FBI director and are seen as a way to corroborate Comey's account in Mueller's probe.Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe on Friday, about a day before his 50th birthday and the date he was set to retire and begin receiving his anticipated pension, over accusations that McCabe directed FBI officials to speak to the media about an investigation tied to the Clinton Foundation and misled investigators about his actions. Following his firing Friday, McCabe told CNN in an interview that he had four interactions with the President last May, while he was acting FBI director.McCabe revealed that he had three in-person interactions and one phone call with Trump, in which the President berated him each time about his wife's failed Virginia Senate campaign.It is unclear exactly what is in McCabe's memos and if he memorialized every interaction he had with the President."In May, when Director Comey was fired and I had my own interactions with the President, he brought up my wife every time I ever spoke to him," McCabe told CNN. More than 100 students knelt on the benches of Notre Dame Stadium while "The Star-Spangled Banner" played during the school's football game against Florida State University on Saturday.Taking a knee to protest racial injustices began in 2016 when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem before a preseason NFL game.Kaepernick's actions were based mostly on political issues, but the students wanted to put a spin on the protest and make it a religious matter as well."We wanted to frame this movement around Notre Dame's religion, which is Catholic. Some made it a moment of silence, and others prayed," said Katie Hieatt, one of five protest organizers.Durrell Jackson, another of the organizers, began protesting earlier in the college football season with a couple of friends. That's when Shawn Wu stepped in and decided this needed to be a bigger movement.With the help of three other students, they organized the November 10 protest that led 80 of their junior classmates and about 30 students in the senior class to kneel."For me personally, this is both a political and religious issue," Jackson said. "Police brutality and racial [and] social injustice against brothers and sisters is not the Christian thing to do."The students brought back some of the school's history as they knelt in solidarity.They linked arms in prayer like the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, who served as the school's president until 1987, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. did in 1964 at a civil rights rally in Chicago, as they sang "We Shall Overcome."Like Hesburgh and King, the students hope to bring people together to respect one another even if they have different beliefs."Rather than being dismissed as 'just a liberal act,' many might reconsider how this movement of justice and reconciliation aligns deeply with shared values (among many) of faith, Notre Dame tradition, and Fr. Hesburgh," the group wrote in its mission statement, inviting their peers to protest with them.Brian Gatter, one of the other organizers, said their main goal was to let people know that students at Notre Dame are not just concerned with racial injustices, but also with the treatment of people when they share an opinion others don't agree with."Our main goal is to start a healthy and peaceful dialogue, rather than to keep this a one-sided conversation," Gatter said. "One of the things we want to stress the most with this movement is that this is not a protest against the military or the flag, this is about how we treat each other as human beings. We don't need to reduce people down in order to make a point. We can have a good dialogue, even if we don't agree with each other."The University of Notre Dame has not taken any disciplinary action against the students, Gatter said.
