President Donald Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who lavished pleasantries on each other during public appearances in Manila Monday, "briefly" discussed human rights and the Philippine's bloody war on drugs during their closed-door conversation, the White House said. But a spokesman for the controversial Philippine President told reporters that "human rights did not arise" during the meeting.Trump has largely eschewed public talk of human rights issues on his trip through Asia, despite the United States harboring long-held grievances with how countries in the region have treated their citizens. In Manila, the two leaders ignored shouted questions from reporters on the issue. 706
President Donald Trump delivered remarks from the White House on Thursday, again declaring himself the rightful winner of Tuesday’s election and that the election is being stolen.Currently, Joe Biden is projected to be ahead in the Electoral College vote. Biden is ahead by a 264-213 margin, according to the Associated Press. While the Associated Press called Arizona early Wednesday, some outlets have not called Arizona, which Biden has led narrowly.Trump made a multitude of false statements to sow doubt into the legitimacy of the election. To be clear, Trump still has a narrow path to the presidency, but that path is becoming more narrow by the hour. As Trump spoke, 17,000 votes in Savannah, Georgia, were tabulated cutting Trump’s lead in the state by 6,000. Trump now leads the state by 3,500 votes with 19,000 votes left. Biden has been winning mail-in votes in Georgia by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, which would be enough to give Biden a narrow win in the state.Conversely, Trump won over 62% of the Election Day vote in Georgia. Because those ballots were first to be reported, Trump racked up a sizable lead in Georgia. A similar situation in Pennsylvania took place. In Pennsylvania, Trump won the Election Day vote by a 2-to-1 margin, but trailed the mail-in vote by a 3-to-1 margin. Early on Thursday, Trump tweeted “STOP THE COUNT” as mail-in votes postmarked on or before Election Day are being counted in states such as Pennsylvania and Georgia. These ballots have helped Biden significantly narrow Trump’s lead. The two states are imperative for Trump in order to win in order to remain in the White House in 2021.Twitter has recently updated its policy regarding misinformation involving the election, and as of 2 p.m. ET Thursday, Trump had his Twitter account flagged eight times for misinformation.Trump also voiced his concerns via Twitter that ballots shouldn't be counted after Election Day and claims that he'll challenge states who declared Biden a winner for voter fraud. 2006
Pope Francis wants you to do him a favor. The next time you're in Mass -- put down your cell phone. The Pope, speaking Wednesday in St. Peter's Square, said he was disappointed to see so many people using mobile devices when they should be worshiping during Mass."It makes me very sad when I celebrate Mass in the Square or in St. Peter's Basilica and I see so many phones in the air," he said in his off-the-cuff remarks.Hear the Pope's words in the video below: 470
President Donald Trump laid out his health care agenda Thursday amid a global pandemic and growing uncertainty about the future of the Affordable Care Act, the Obama-era law he vowed to replace with a much better plan, but never did. In a campaign-style visit to swing state North Carolina, the president sketched out what aides call a “vision” for quality health care at affordable prices, lower prescription drug costs and greater consumer choice. Although the Trump administration has made some progress on his health care goals, the major changes he promised have eluded him. And the clock has all but run out in Congress.Among one of the points highlighted in his executive order was his promise to make preexisting conditions covered by insurance companies. But this point is already covered by the Affordable Care Act, which the Trump administration is working to get overturned in the federal courts. 920
President Donald Trump lashed out at California Gov. Jerry Brown on Saturday morning, continuing a longstanding feud between his administration and the Golden State over immigration."Governor Jerry 'Moonbeam' Brown pardoned 5 criminal illegal aliens whose crimes include (1) Kidnapping and Robbery (2) Badly beating wife and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize (3) Dealing drugs. Is this really what the great people of California want?," the President tweeted, along with a tag to Fox News.On Friday, the Democratic governor granted 56 pardons and 14 commutations. 582
