President Donald Trump revived Tuesday his "Pocahontas" nickname for Elizabeth Warren, a day after the Massachusetts senator released a DNA test amplifying the controversy over her claimed Native American heritage."Pocahontas (the bad version), sometimes referred to as Elizabeth Warren, is getting slammed," Trump tweeted of his potential 2020 challenger."She took a bogus DNA test and it showed that she may be 1/1024, far less than the average American. Now Cherokee Nation denies her, "DNA test is useless." Even they don't want her. Phony!" Trump said.Pocahontas was a historical figure from the 17th Century and using her name in an intentionally disparaging way insults native peoples and degrades their cultures. The largest Native American advocacy group has said that is why it has condemned the President's usage in this manner. In a second tweet moments later, Trump alleged that Warren's claims of Native American heritage "have turned out to be a scam and a lie" and called for Warren to apologize for the second time in 24 hours. 1051

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his pick to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Ronny Jackson, "is one of the finest people I have ever met" but acknowledged he lacks experience in running a government agency."There's a lack of experience," he said.Trump said he hadn't heard particular allegations against Jackson but defended him and said he was being unfairly treated by the press and Democrats."I told Admiral Jackson just a little while ago, what do you need this for? This is a vicious group of people, they malign ... what do you need it for?" the President said he asked."He's an admiral, he's a great leader, and they question him for every little thing," Trump said. But he said he would leave it up to Jackson whether to continue pursuing confirmation."He is a high-quality person. It's totally his decision. So he'll be making a decision," he said. "I don't want to put a man through a process like this. It's too ugly and too disgusting."Trump said if he was Jackson making the decision, he would step aside."If I were him, I wouldn't do it," Trump said.  1098

President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen got into a lengthy, heated argument during a Cabinet meeting focused on immigration Wednesday, a source with knowledge of the blowup told CNN.Trump was furious with Nielsen, telling her he didn't think she was doing enough to secure the border. But Nielsen maintained her ground, citing the law in certain instances, the source said.A separate White House official confirmed that Trump exploded over immigration in front of the Cabinet. The official described the remarks as "angry and heated" but also as fairly typical for Trump on this issue. The New York Times first reported on the blowup, saying Trump berated Nielsen to the point she told colleagues she was close to resigning after the incident. Two people told the Times that Nielsen, the Cabinet head who oversees agencies responsible for immigration enforcement and border security, drafted a resignation letter.Trump went on a "lengthy tirade" before the full Cabinet, the report said, but it added that Nielsen thought the thrust Trump's remarks were about her.White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in reaction to the report, "The President is committed to fixing our broken immigration system and our porous borders. We are a country of laws and the president and his administration will enforce them.''Nielsen said in a statement that she shares Trump's frustration about the border, blaming it in part on "congressional inaction.""The President is rightly frustrated that existing loopholes and the lack of congressional action have prevented this administration from fully securing the border and protecting the American people. I share his frustration," Nielsen said. "Border security is the most basic and necessary responsibility of a sovereign nation. These are complex issues and I will continue to direct the Department to do all we can to implement the President's security-focused agenda."The report of Trump's angry remarks marked at least the second top Cabinet official Trump is said to have berated to the point they nearly quit. The Times reported last year that Trump called Attorney General Jeff Sessions an "idiot" to his face and said he should resign, and a source told CNNlast year that Sessions offered to resign amid a series of heated exchanges with Trump. 2357

President Donald Trump called Attorney General Jeff Sessions an "idiot" to his face and said he should resign in May, The New York Times reported Thursday.Sessions, an advocate for hardline policies on immigration and criminal justice, ultimately stayed on despite the humiliating Oval Office session with Trump, the Times reported, citing current and former administration officials as well as others briefed.Trump berated Sessions, the Times said, during a May 17 meeting with his top advisers to consider replacements for former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump had fired earlier that month. During the meeting, White House counsel Don McGahn received a call from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, where he learned Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel for the investigation into potential coordination between Trump's associates and Russia to influence the 2016 election. The Times report said Trump lashed out in response to that news.A source told CNN in June that Sessions offered to resign following a series of heated exchanges with the President. At the time, the White House declined to say Trump had confidence in Sessions. The Justice Department declined Thursday to comment on the Times' story. The Times said Trump did not accept Sessions' resignation because he was advised it would create more problems for him, given he had already fired Comey and national security adviser Michael Flynn.Trump has publicly blamed Sessions for the appointment of the special counsel. In July, the President went as far as saying he would not have chosen Sessions to be the attorney general had he known Sessions would recuse from matters related to the campaign. Trump called the move "very unfair to the President."Trump continued to rebuke Sessions in public, including referring to the attorney general on Twitter as "beleaguered." 1922

President Donald Trump delivered an address in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Wednesday as he designates the city as a "World War II Heritage City."Wilmington is the first city in the country to receive the designation.During the event, Trump recognized the efforts of several World War II vets in attendance and personally thanked them for their service.Trump's address comes a day after he visited Kenosha, Wisconsin — the site of several protests in recent weeks following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. While in Kenosha, Trump toured damage left behind by riots in the city and met with law enforcement officials, but did not meet with Blake or his family. 672
