BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao urged Friday to build a powerful air force to meet the demands of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for missions in the 21th century.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remark when meeting delegates of the 11th CPC Congress of the PLA Air Force in Beijing.     Hu asked the Air Force's officers to constantly improve the ability to win local wars as well as accomplish diversified military tasks. BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- A reception was held here on Thursday evening to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia.     Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak addressed the reception, pledging to advance bilateral relationship to a new level.     Li said the growth of China-Malaysia ties in the past 35 years had brought tangible benefits to the two peoples, and helped promote regional peace and development.     The current sound bilateral relations profited from the traditional friendship, the broad common interests and the great importance attached by both leaders to promoting the ties, Li noted. HANOI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting here on Monday and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.     Yang said with deepening globalization, the destinies of Asia and Europe have been tied together. Countries must intensify cooperation, deepen mutual trust and build a new and closer Asia-Europe partnership.     To build such a partnership, Yang said countries should enhance mutual understanding through dialogue on an equal footing. Countries should promote development through intensified cooperation. Countries should advocate mutual tolerance through expanded exchanges. Countries should strengthen its institution building to ensure the vitality.     Yang made several suggestions to cope with the ongoing financial and economic crisis and other global challenges.     First, Yang said countries should strengthen confidence and strive for economic recovery and growth. Countries should firmly oppose all forms of protectionism and take concrete steps to help develop countries maintain financial stability and work together to overcome the international financial crisis.     Second, countries should take active measures to counter the threat of A/H1N1 flu and other infectious diseases and minimize the impact of the flu on global trade and economic activities, said Yang.     Third, countries should think for the future, remain committed to the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" and step up cooperation in tackling climate change.     Fourth, countries should increase input and foster and follow anew energy security concept that calls for win-win cooperation, diverse forms of development and common security through coordinated supply, said Yang.     Fifth, countries should promote peaceful and negotiated settlement of hotspot issues and regional disputes on the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust and cooperation. The international community should fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries concerned, provide active and constructive help, and avoid willfully applying pressure or sanctions.     Yang said to deal with the international financial crisis, China has adjusted its macro-economic policies and implemented positive fiscal policy and loosened its monetary policy in an appropriate manner.     China has launched a package of measures to expand domestic consumption and stabilize export market and these measures have started to take effect.     As a responsible member of the international community, China will continue to work together with other ASEM members to strengthen coordination in the macro-economic policy, advance the reform of international financial system and actively safeguard the stability of the multi-lateral trade system.     The 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) opened here on Monday with the participation of foreign ministers and delegates from 45 ASEM members in the two-day meeting.     Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered the opening speech of the meeting.

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The China Ping An Insurance (Group), which had plans to buy a 22 billion yuan (3.2 billion U.S. dollars) stake in Shenzhen Development Bank (SDB), said Sunday that there are no changes in buying into the bank for the moment.     There are no changes in the bank, and the stake purchase aims to improve Ping An's financial service and asset structure, said Zhang Zixin, general manager of the China's second largest insurer via a telephone news conference.     Ping An and SDB will operate with their own plans. The management team of the bank will not change right now, according to the Frank Newman, president of SDB, and Richard Jackson, president of the Ping An Bank Co., Ltd.     The company said last Friday it would buy 520 million shares from the U.S.-based TPG's Asian arm Newbridge Capital for 11.45 billion yuan by the end of 2010. Newbridge Capital is currently the top shareholder in Shenzhen Development Bank.     The Ping An would acquire no more than a 30 percent stake in Shenzhen Development Bank after the two deals, and become the top shareholder instead.     The Ping An Group, together with Ping An Life Insurance, currently holds a 4.68 percent stake in Shenzhen Development Bank.

URUMQI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 overseas media organizations came to Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to report Sunday's riot, a press official said Wednesday.     "All media organizations are welcome to report the riot," said Hou Hanmin, spokeswoman for the Xinjiang regional government and in charge of the press center in Haide Hotel in downtown Urumqi.     "We will do our best to provide convenience for reporters while ensuring their safety," said Hou.     "We hope every media reports the incident objectively through close observation of the truth," she said.     The riot, which occurred Sunday evening in Urumqi, has left 156dead and more than 1,000 others injured.     Wu Nong, a press center worker, said the center had technicians to deal with communication problems for journalists. It has interpreters of English and Uygur languages.
