SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing near University of San Diego's campus.The bicyclist, identified as a 36-year-old man, was riding in the westbound bike lane along the 5600 block of Linda Vista Road at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to San Diego Police. Then for an unknown reason, police said the bicyclist overturned and crashed.The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.He was transported to a nearby hospital with a skull fracture and several other serious injuries - which were considered life-threatening, police said.SDPD Traffic Division is investigating the cause of the crash. 661

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A fire erupted in the yard of a Skyline-area home and spread to nearby brush before crews successfully put it out.The fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 7000 block of Tuther Way, near Skyline Drive.The fire is believed to have started in the shed or another location in the home's backyard before it spread to a fence and brush directly behind it.The fire also made its way to the house, damaging parts of the home's roof. Firefighters said later Wednesday afternoon that the home was a hoarder house. No one was home when the fire erupted. Smoke from the blaze was visible for several miles. 661

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A famous San Diego bike trail is open just in time for July 4. Wednesday, SANDAG opened a one-mile stretch of the newly-relocated and upgraded Rose Canyon Bike Path. The path is a segment of the Coastal Rail Trail that stretches along Interstate 5 from north Santa Fe Street to just north of State Route 52. SANDAG says the path will eventually connect to the future 44-mile Coastal Rail Trail, which will extend from Oceanside to Downtown San Diego. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The two most popular baby names in San Diego County in 2018 were Liam and Emma, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced today.Emma led all other names with 264. Among girl names, Olivia was second with 235, according to the county, with Mia, Isabella, Camila, Sophia, Sofia, Victoria, Mila and Charlotte rounding out the top 10.Liam led all boys' names with 242, followed by Noah at 202. Other top 10 boy names were Sebastian, Mateo, Benjamin, Daniel, Ethan, Oliver, Alexander and Logan.It was the third consecutive year in which Emma led all girls' names and the second consecutive year that Liam led among boys. Noah has placed either second or first among boys' names in each of the last four years, according to county data.Nationally, Liam and Emma were second and third, respectively, among names for boys and girls born in 2018, with Jackson and Sophia topping the list, according to the parenting website babycenter.com.In total, 41,555 babies were born in San Diego County in 2018. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 16-year-old boy with a remote-controlled car tried to send 50 packages of methamphetamine across the border, U.S. Border Patrol agents said Tuesday. Agents were guarding the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday at 12:30 a.m. when they saw a person with two duffel bags walking along the secondary border wall. One of the agents who responded to the scene saw the boy hiding in thick brush. He had a remote-controlled car and 55 pounds of meth, agents said. The boy was arrested and will face smuggling charges.
